You can feel the Love(craft) in this game
Well, I sat down to this game thinking it'd be something similar to the short but sweet game, 'Found Lost' which came out near last Halloween. I certainly found that game good and scary and the use of sound to terrify in that game was fantastic. But anyway, onto this game.
Graphics: 7
Now, I found the graphics to be a bit of a let-down since it was generally photographs and not everything that could be clicked on was so clear (I admit I resorted to tapping on the tab-key to see some of the things) but I felt that the photographs did suit it which prevented me from giving it any lower.
Sound: 10
This is the sort of thing a good horror game should have at its center (well, a good horror game also needs story, but sound is sometimes better if you've got good story) and this game certainly made good use of creepy sounds. Music often can add to creeping out a player but a long, unpleasent silence can do so much more at times. The only complaint I have with sound is that I feel perhaps that when voices were present they weren't so great (with the exception of the perfectly done whispers and mutterings)
Interactivity: 8
Well, as it's a fully feldged game with 2 possible endings, I find it hard to really give it a grade too high or too low, so I'll just say it was interactive enough to get an 8 but sometiems things weren't as clear as thery could've been in the form of what could be and couldn't be clicked on.
Style: 10
Why would I give this game a 10 for style exactly? Would it be because I'm a fan of horror? Well, definately. I love a good horror game but there's something else that prompted me to give it a perfect 10. I'm a fan of the works of Lovecraft and so much of this game (The Exmortis tome, humans losing humanity, ancient gods reigning over life, death and time, the five pointed star, the word 'Ia' scrawled on the clock) felt so very Lovecraftien. Lord Vlaew felt quite a bit to me like Nylarthotep. I didn't like to see the Necronomicon, er, I mean the Exmortis explain so much about the past. It seemed a bit too convenient for the character.
Violence: 8
There are bits of body lying around in pools of blood. That violent enough for you?
Humour: 0
None whatsoever that I could detect. Just as it should be.
Overall: 8
Generally speaking, I liked this game especially considering it had what, to me, were very Lovecraftien influences. I can't say much else other then play it if you haven't played it and, if you have, go read some H.P. Lovecraft.
