The violence was completley necessary. As was evident in the cartoon we all used to watch Ash was a bitch for pain (thanks Charizard) and Pikachu was his small sexually confused companion who just needed to be put out of his misery before Ash molested him to the realm of no return. Yeah, ash deserved that.
Ash did diserve that, but it should have been quick and painless for pikachu. The voice acting lost you some points, no offence, but the ash was too annoying, that was the point, but it was taken a bit far. Otherwise, killer dude, killer.
