i'm a sucker for eye-candy, but...
the animation skills and ability to draw are all above average, and this movie, visually, was very nicely done. but every single other thing is beyond trite, in all ways: animation, story, dialogue... it's just so stupid. drawing like that is not your own "style" and neither is any anime. it's a canon that is repeatedly copied over and over, lending no individual style. if you're influenced by anime/manga, ok. but incorporate it into your own style, that being something unique to you. also, the whole story was just a collage of other similar stories. a guy wants revenge, sets off alone to fight the villain, is encountered by obstacles, fight scene, fight scene, lather rinse repeat, fight scene..then kill the villain. because he has to. there's no other option, right?. so right away we don't care. it's just not worth reusing yet again. and the dialogue might just be the worst. more borrowing from anime there, with the hero's brief and cocky, yet extremely vague, catchphrases. and why do the heroes always have to do that dumb little laugh before talking? you just wanna slap 'em. or how about yelling "well...?" at unseen bad guys? who does that? is he in a hurry to fight AGAIN? i know i always yell down dark alleys at night, cuz if i'm gonna get mugged on the way home, they better hurry up and do it cuz i'm a busy guy. just work harder next time on your own style, your own story and you should be better off. maybe even a series eventually. if it was something original and interesting, i'd watch more.
