Unique. Wow.
When I first looked at the portal, I saw that something had overtaken the FF A+ on rating, and promptly thought 'holy shit this must be good.' And it was- although for a slightly different reason.
Taking the Raymanesque figure (floating hands and feet) into a new plane, this is a splendid, if modern and uberminimalist approach to depicting underworld violence. The animation is smooth, and combines with the camera angles, blood splatter effects and gun flash (not to mention the best possible soundtrack) to produce a fantastic, if somewhat thinly plotted action series. Every character seems to be souless and two dimensional (including the hero who seems to be more silent, and more tough than Tony Vercetti of GTAIII,) which is probably a good thing given the selected genre: slashing, hacking and blasting action, in which every character, with the exception of 4 or so, last about 2 seconds.
Although this doesn't seem to be very intellectually engaging, it certainly has its ironic touches, adding the extra kick to the dark palette of mood and colour.
But nonetheless, I could not help but think that there was a little something missing, which is why I gave it a 4 instead of 5. I do wish there was a 4.5 though. Well done on all counts.
