absolutely stunning, breathtaking..
Ok, I have a very long commentary I feel is necessary to write in relation to this piece, I know very few people will ever read this, but I need to give my interpretation as well as an evaluation on other peoples comments/interpretations.
Firstly on a personal note, I thought this piece was amazing, from the simplistic, noir visuals, to the oddly deep messages it's provoked from the public at large.
As to interpretations of the piece, to the 13 year old a few posts behind me, you cannot lay down what the piece means, as you will find out as you progress through your life. That's a good interpretation but the catch 22 behind interpreting a text, is that every person on earth will interpret it differently. That is YOUR interpretation, even if it is the authors interpretation it's not THE interpretation, as there will always be hundreds. Some people will take it literally as the movie it is, others will see political or social commentary behind it.
I found personally the simplistic visuals helped strengthen the raw message behind the piece. The whole thing appeared to draw from a clockwork orange, however whether that was intentional or not I'm not sure.
As to my personal interpretation, I saw it as an analytical, harsh critique of modern society. It speaks of forced conformity from a narrow minded, almost backwater society. Whether it's a global commentary, or a commentary on western/polish society I'm not sure, but the most consistent theme for me as an audience, was this forced acceptance, forced conformity. The stark juxtaposing tendencies of the smily faces and the punishment was amazing. I also saw a bit of chritiological philosophy behind it, but whether that's intentional or not I have no idea. (no I am not religious)
Overall this was a stunning piece, absolutely stunning.. I'm in awe.
