It really helped me out.
But there is just one more thing I would like to know: if you make a multible level platformer, how do you get from frame to frame when you walk off the screen?

It is actually on the bottem of the screen in the newer versions of Macromedia Flash. There are panels which you can click to bring up options. Of the 3 or 4 panels down there one is an action panel. That is where you must copy and place the text.
good tutorial but hated the audio
to fix your character being low on or below the platform just right click in library, then go to edit
then using selection tool (black arrow) highlight it and relocate it so that the cross (which you cannot move) is in the lower mid section of the character
then in frame 1 (main) relocate the movieclip (character) to the desired position
