Sort of useful.
Some things could be better explained. As a beginner in flash, I found some of your instructions really ambiguous. I got it all to work in the end, but this needs some work if it's to be useful to anyone.
When the helper guy said to right click the ground, choose panels and instance, I couldn't find this option. This might be because you're using Flash 5 and I'm using Flash 8, perhaps you should update it?
On the whole, I found it to be a nice little introduction, but needs a hell of a lot of work.

ok 4 u those cant make it so u can make more than 1 platform without falling thru the ground, make ur platform then another keep on making them untill ur finished making them (make sure ur able to get 2 them) then select all of them and press F8 name it 'Ground' then at the bottom rite corner ther shud b a box thats says '<instance name>' ( underneath where it says 'Movie Clip') click on the box and name it 'ground' and then u wont fall thru them, if u cant do it then do it over again coz i sure did it and i made many platforms and was able 2 pik up this item so there is nothing wrong with it (i did it with flash 8 pro) PM me if u need help.

YOU NEED TO CHECK YOUR ACTION SCRIPTS
your character/player falls through any other ground that you make and the inventory doesn't work.
