Well, I've had the chance to share the candy and treats in the package with my fellow teachers (thanks, Ma and Dad!), thrown on the White And Nerdy hoodie (took extra time to arrive... backorder!), and I finally sat down and listened to Strait Outta Lynwood. My personal sizing it up?
Well, a few days ago, two of my fellow Anglo teachers from Australia and I nestled in by the office widescreen and DVD player, and scoped out the videos on the DVD side of Straight Outta Lynwood. My personal opinions:
Don't Download This Song Admittedly, the novelty had worn off because I'd seen it on Al's Myspace site long before the disc arrived here in China. But on the next viewing, I still thought it was pretty darn good... and no web lagging! My friends thought it was absolutely the best vid out there, and Al's hyperbole humor was the best part.
I'll Sue Ya One teacher REALLY loved this because he was flustered with the lawsuit-happy "not my fault" culture of America. And Weird Al scored a bullseye with this one. Just as poignant and commentatively dead on as the RATM songs he emulates, and hey! No endorsement of communism to boot! :-D
Weasel Stomping Day Guilty pleasure. I definitely don't endorse cruelty to animals, but there are more than a few 46 chromosome'd "weasels" I'd like to celebrate the holiday with, IYKWIM ];-D}
Close But No Cigar Face it, I'm no John K./Ren and Stimpy fan, so the video was a turn-off. Music rocked, though. Fave audio on the whole CD.
Pancreas Okay, I know Weird Al had promised us one day a song dedicated to the pancreas. Still... Double You. Tea. Eff?! At least the B&W clips set the mood right.
Virus Alert Good sound, and very thorough, involving, gotta-rewind-to-see-it-all sorta thing. The homage to the 80s music, though, sounds kinda... erm... effette.
Anyways, that's my analysis of it. That and 18 Chinese yuan will get you a tall Starbucks coffee. ;-p
