Thanks. I appreciate any time that is put into sigs for me. If you're up for a little constructive criticism, I think it'd look a bit better if you made it so that they text didn't mix into the background so much. There's more than one way to do this - adding a stroke outline to your text usually does the job perfectly - as you can see in Rex's current sig. Also, try some experimentation with drop shadows and complementary colours.. if not complementary, then just go with colours that have contrast. Black will obviously contrast with anything light, and white will contrast with anything dark. :) Ok then, good luck.

All good advice there, I use those techniques myself. Two things I'd like to add to that are:
1) Bevel and Emboss effect - If you play around with the contour settings for bevels you can get some cool effects on your lettering, especially combined with the stroke effect.
2) Invert Image - This ones good if you have few colours. Make your text on a seperate layer, then CTRL click your text layer in the layer window. This selects the text outline. Then click your background layer, you'll still have the text outline as a selection.
Then go IMAGE > ADJUST > INVERT. Turn off the original text layer.
Also to go further the FADE command under EDIT can produce some neat stuff on your effects.
Heres an example of the image inverting technique

Also with the clouds filter, if you put a chrome filter on after, and max out the 2 sliders you get a great ripple effect, I use that for the base of my metallic effects, along with a solid colour on 1 layer, then add noise (about 35) then a 0 degree motion blur (about 130)
Hey all.. I know a few people from SSM and ASM had a problem with me and my friend over in general, but, i would be honored if i could join you guys. I really just want to make sig's for people not all that added who's better crap that people are doing in general.
Neways.. Im still fairly new.. but im hoping im good enough for you guys :p
Heres a few examples:
(They really need multiple uploads lol)
Im Kool R U Sig

Oh. Your. God.
you all are good guys, i see a hint of a community here. i appreciate your guys' input, its only for the better, well lets just keep siggin fellas till we get some requests goin
I am new to making sigs. On my computer I have Photoshop and Fireworks. I have been using firewroks for every image editiring thing that I do, but I would like to knwo if Photoshop is really that much better. I have heard that it is but I am not sure. I was also curious, what do all of you guys use?

Its not really a matter of whats best, more of what you're comfortable using. Theres no rule that says you have to use Photoshop, or PSP, or Fireworks.
Personally I use Photoshop, I've used both Fireworks and PSP, and while each program has their good points, I find Photoshop gives me more control overall.
Oh, and sometimes I use MS Paint for basic outlines cos its quick and easy
Wow, I've been working incredibly hard since monday and it doesn't look like I'll get much time off except for saturday so I'm not doing much really.
I got off a few hours earlier today so I may go make a new sig or something.
About making this an official club
If we do this I could do the website as I am well versed in HTML and CSS, I just gotta get around to finishing my layout now, man I'm lazy.
Oni
Man those are cool sigs, do ya reckon I could get one to? Just choose whoever you want to be on it.
PS effects
Since we're sharing some I thought I'd give one of mine for cool liquid. All you have to do is render some clouds and use the Plaster effect on it. Fiddle with the settings to get it how you want it.
I find it gives a better effect if you create lightening with the cloud filter and stuff first then Plaster it because it gives it more of a running liquid feel. That's what I used for the blobs on my current sig.
could anyone tell me whats the major difference between jpeg and gif?
and redox.. although that one post was to answer ninja's, er, grinch's question.. i must say thanks cuz i was tryin to figure that out myself..
gifs are bulkier in size, the difference is, jpgs can only be static images, where as gifs can be animated if they are animated, they have that option, jpgs dont

also, jpegs can't be transparent, and in some programs, are real ghey to try and save....
Oh. Your. God.
well, a mix of styles here... hopefully it turns out ok...

At 12/4/03 12:21 AM, Mina_Sol wrote: could anyone tell me whats the major difference between jpeg and gif?
The technical answer is very mathematical.
A jpeg can have up to 16.7 million colours
A gif can have only 256 colours.
16.7million = 256 * 256 * 256
Therefore...
Converting a jpeg to a gif will reduce the filesize by one third.
Plus what the other 2 said is also true.
Also, a gif can have as little as 2 colours. Reducing the colour depth (ie ammount of colours) on a gif also reduces its filesize.
There a 2 types of gif, 95a and 97a. Basically the difference is 97a supports transparancy and animation.
Another useless piece of information is there is a cross between a gif and a jpeg, its known as a png graphic file. It has the jpeg colour depth and the gifs file compression.

hey thanks guys that helped a lot.. i was wondering why everyone used gif.. i'm used to using jpeg from my highschool networking class... eh.. anyways..
why, again, am i the reason it stings when you sit... i told you it was the damn elf chic!
Does anyone know if its possible to deal with .gif's in photoshop? Ive noticed a few people add animated gif's to they're work.. Would i need anything else besides photoshop 7 to put these animated gif's in?

well, to put animated gifs (mostly just sprites, but meh...) in, photoshop 7 comes with a program called image ready... and you can put them in throught that... personally, i cant do shit with that program (i tried once and ended up waving my arms round wildly screaming 'WHAT THE HELL?!') but others seem to use it very very very well (eg. Y3llow, Soho Ninja, *snicker* Red Oxide) and from what ive seen it works sweet if you know what you're doing... unfortunately, im too used to animation shop (which i got with paint shop pro 7 as i got psp7 first cos i thought it would be good and easy since its what war machine uses, but once again, i ended up waving my arms round wildly screaming 'WHAT THE HELL?!'... even though i find it sort of worth it through animation shop....
so yeah, for animations, try your hand at image ready... and if you can get whats happening, ask someone... i know i should at some stage....
Oh. Your. God.

Man I know what your on about. I like the one where Manny eats the bumble bees. And the one with the toast on the roof. And the one...ok I'll shut up now.
stuff about ImageReady
Yea, I know the basics of it and I can do things like ripping sprites with it so any simple questions you might have I can answer.

LOL, yeah i totally forgot about that one... and bernard goes into the porno shop to try and keep warm....
thats it, im goin to get the DVD's out of the cabinet and watch that right now.... personally my favorite bit in that whole series is when manny is 'stripping' the chicken....
Oh. Your. God.
Well all i really had in mind was something like the .gif in your sig, y3llow
I have a friend and i know he uses Flash MX, but, With that program i took the same route silv3r did and waved my arms around like crazy and screamed "WHAT THE HELL"
OMG, black books!
ROFLMAO!!!!!!

I tried Flash MX for animated sigs but the compression on it is absolute crap so I turned to ImageReady. Soho explained the basics to me back on page 32, go take a look at his post about halfway down to get an understanding of it. It's awesome for any type of animations.
Anyways I just found out how to add a secret image to your pictures Mwahahahahahaha. All you have to do to reveal it is select the picture. So now I'm going to use it on all mine so if anyone steals them I can prove it's mine *looks at everyone suspiciously*
