He did take over from his own last post instead of mine. That's why if you look in the points gained section, almost everyone has huge figures, some into 10000+ points in the time period.

Oh and by the way, I was already a Captain at the time he posted his update, but it says I still had 100 points to go :/

Thanks!! I was going to run into two problems if I went with either Lock's or jon's post. I'd first have to go through and manually enter the numbers they had for the 100 they were listing, and odds were I'd simply screw up at some point and put a number in for the wrong person simply because they were next on my sheet. Compounding that was going to be having to twirl my previous list around to get the cell referents to work against hard numbers instead of cells. The other issue was going to be that I'd have the 100 people they were using with numbers based on 3 weeks or 6 weeks, while everyone else was going to be against 6 months. On the Avg it wouldn't matter that much, but rank changes would be out of whack. ~shrug~ more of my nitpicking details than anything I guess.

I didn't rank up that much, but being #60 is not too bad :)

I knew some stuff like that was going to happen, with stat pull happening more than half a day before post. I know of at least one other offhand, since before yesterday we had no Majors and that likely occured before I posted as well. ~shrug~ you got a grat today for 1L and you'll get one next update for Captain, no biggie.

Also I wanted to get people's opinions on this idea that came to me, well, to be honest it came to me while I was looking at an old post of Lock's where he did the same damned thing =)

Part of the problem with this list is the amount of time involved in setting it up to post, followed by the issues of getting it actually posted. I've always had a problem with the fact that I can't go back and edit them (yeah, I know, it would instantly be abused if we were allowed to but anyway ...) to fix minor errors like the one Lock found with Mr_Chuckles. I absolutely despise that little "Invalid HTML" pop-up I never fail to get causing me to have to sift through a 4+ pages of a text file trying to see where I forgot a single backslash. Don't even get me started and the BS of trying to get things to look decently formatted ... and the text limit ~sheesh~

Anyway, so what would you folks think of a link being posted to a webpage with all this information instead of the information being posted here. Yes, this means I'm thinking about picking this back up. No, it does not mean multi-weekly updates will become a regular event again. On the plus side, it would solve most of the above problems for me, and give the ability for me, at some latter point, to upload copies of the old posts for quick reference. Additionally, I'd have access to more font choices than bold, italics, and underline to try and highligh people who've accomplished something since the last update. At some point in the indeterminate future I could get some code strung together, which I could simply C&P from the spread, that would allow a direct link to an NG profile from the list; a page of profile links if nothing else. Worst case if/when I drop this again, whoever picks it up has ready access. When I get to a point where I'd consider implementing it, I'll run it by Tom and liljim and make sure they don't have an issue with it.

Anything good, comes with bad ... Obviously it would be extremely rough around the edges for a while until I could settle on what kind of formatting I wanted to do and what nav works the best for it. Think black text on white background with no links to anything while I twiddle with table settings. Although the post itself would be elsewhere, discussion on it would still take place here, requiring (yet another) browser open for the users. If there's an error that needs to be corrected, you need to be added, whatever, you'd have to come back here to let me know about it. Since I've got a 2g/month limit (I think), it can't be more than just text files ... no BGM, bells, whistles, pretty pictures, access to other sections, whatever. I have no idea what kind of traffic I'd get, but getting hosed on exceeding charges isn't on my "To Do" list.

Anyway, I'm reasonably sure this idea will be met with approval, but you never know. If anyone can come up with other problems doing it that way that I haven't mentioned, please let me know. If I haven't thought of it and I go ahead with this, I'm going to get blind-sided by it 6 weeks down the road ... and I'd rather not.

Overall, it sounds like a good idea. I would imagine it'd be easier than making multiple posts like you did earlier. I also would guess that it would be easier to make it more aligned and straightened up.

Perhaps you could do something like listing the 51 through 100 ranks here (1 - 50 already on NG's 'official' lists), and then put a link to the entire list after that.

And why am I not surprised you are both above the arbitrary limit you chose lol Seriously though, all this grew out of my hitting EG and having zero idea how long it would take me to pass the next person. As I found people above me I added them, and as I passed, deleted them. That's why there's so many damned additions to the list in the first few pages of this thread; for my own purposes I kept limiting the list. Once i decided to share it, it needed to expand again.

"Full" updates like that one on 63, especially since I've added well over 100 people in the last two days, are going to be infrequent. Checking and listing Captains and Lieutenants was always getting the short end of the stick anyway, so I have no compunction against leaving them out again. The people who've made EG? Kind of hard pressed to decide it's OK to leave them out. I'm waiting on approval for a few things that would make that decision easier but until then I'm feign to do it.

Since Tim's post I've been more in the mind set of "Screw it, it's my list" and pretty much set on rolling ahead with it. I even think I've got a way to precode everything into the spreadsheet, much like I have preset and tags on the rank numbers. I'm going to tinker a bit tonight and see if I can set up a table I like. By being able to make a table, I no longer have to worry about UNCH or someone's really long (or short) name throwing the columns off, so I shifted things around to where I had wanted them in the first place. There will be some cosmetic tweaks along the way, but I think it's pretty solid as is. On a full list I'll have headers every 50 ranks like I do now. I was thinking about dropping in some off color lines every 5 or 10 ranks, but with the amount of shifting going on that may or may not pan out in the long run. Target links to lower ranks should cut out on the need to scroll so much. ~shrug~ I'll see how it works out in the morning when I run numbers on the 50 for test2.

Anything else you folks want to see added, changed, or removed?

that's the only way to do it when you go from a short list to a long list, man. NGling always did comparisons from one monthly update to the last one, not to the last weekly one. And the same will hold true for my huge update, it'll compare back to the last big one.

Minimum to make top 50 has increased from 6,542 to 10,207 (20.03/day)

What do you mean he started doing the top 50? He always did the top 50 in his big updates. The miniupdates would be 51+, but the top 50 was done quite often. Every Saturday, IIRC.

well, back in November I created the longest list ever (the top 10,000 user ID list)

but I never quite finished it, and so it hasn't been posted (yet).

Still, it's just a list of people and ID#s and sign-up dates. It doesn't have actual stats involved aside from that, so... yeah. This is teh ultimate update of a stat list, length-wise.

Lock made Captain as well. I knew those kind of things were going to happen in the time difference netween pull and post. The ones that bug me are the 3 I know of from the bottom of 64 ... Afterburner, Baron, and Blood were ones I should have gotten from the data I had but managed to screw up anyway.

Keeping in mind that this isn't a real update. It's more of a dry run to see how readily I can shift things from the spread sheet to a web page versus from the spread to here. Stats are from stat pull Saturday morning to stat pull ~11am today, with one exception. No worries, I had lunch in the interim as well so it's not really going to take me 4 hours for every 50 people (more like 20-25 min) with most of the time spent fiddling with the spacings and format.

Test2 went pretty well and runs through the Second Lieutenants. The same post broken up every 25, instead of every 50, is on Test3. It actually took me slightly less time to put together as I wan't picking through it with a fine toothed comb trying to find invalid htmls (just post it and see where it looks goofy), plus with it being such high ranked folks over such a short term there weren't a lot of referent changes on the spread.

Between tables the column spacing shifts due to varied name lengths. It's not really enough to be a major issue, but enough to be noticeable. I'll might frame it in the future, with the column names on the top frame, to keep the "squiggle" from happening as you scroll down. Depends on what else I'm going to be linking there lol

Test out the links and such, let me know what's not working and which version you prefer.
