Maybe each User has only one vote, on the final day of the contest? That way, the artist themself will obviously vote for their piece (or maybe make it so you can't vote for your own work? Dunno, thinking aloud?), but voters will view many more entries, before choosing and use their 1 vote more wisely?

The you guys will have a user percentage favourites?

Well I don't think they are really infringing on anything that's copyrighted, so I think it's perfectly legal. Ethical, certainly not. Cool, no.

That's why I think NG should have an art portal. That would shut them down. I mean seriously, it's pathetic. It's hard to find a feature on that site that wasn't grabbed from Newgrounds :(

did you see the weapon icons in their forums?

and I'll just be coy here (lol) by saying we have alot of ideas of what newgrounds needs, but obviously it all takes time to impliment.

There should be different categories. For example: a 3D category, MS Paint category, hand drawn category, etc. And then you could give prizes to the winners of each category every month. The reason I say this is because I notice a lot of the people who do the 3D computer art will usually "flame" the people who do the classic hand drawn drawing technique. I think having prizes for each style of art could likely prevent this discrimination.

I haven't seen any of this. As far as I can remember (would check, but connection is being incredibly rubbish right now) I was the only one to use 3D in the zombie contest and I sure as shit didn't flame anyone.

An art portal seems to be the way to go. The only bit that would be a problem is telling who's entering a contest. I suppose that could be sorted with a checkbox or dropdown on the submit page.

what are you talking about? besides, if 3d artists want to start winning prizes on this site, they better start making their own models.

secondly, there will NEVER BE A PRIZE FOR AN MS PAINT ENTRY. LET ALONE A CATEGORY FOR THEM.

i think that the mods should still choose which submissions win but i dont think that the users should be able to comment on submissions in the actually thread i think that lengthens it too much and a. either discourages people, or b. things get overlooked so i would say for furture contests have one thread where only pieces can be submitted with no "detail shots" and people cant comment on them and then open another thread for critique and those people who feel they need to whore their art

Yeah :( They run a more than striking resemblance to NG level icons. It will probably take them a few months to re-copy the new NG features and look after the redesign goes live LOL.

Sounds great :)

Even if you think it is (personally I don't see much in it, only attempts at bringing every feature Newgrounds has to it), it's still not right what they did/are doing.

At 11/2/06 03:39 PM, JoystickX wrote: I motion to let the Admins vote. With all due respect, the majority of Newgrounds users are fanboys. The contests would just turn into sonic+final fantasy+halo fests, to score bonus points with the users. At least with the admins, there's a solid sense of humor and an understanding of what good is, not what overrated is.

I disagree. The reasons you outlined would only emphasize that it should be done like the monthly Flash votings, with only the top x experience points users voting. Of course if you put it in the hands of 13 year olds who signed up last week then you would get the fanboys. But if you put it in the hands of specifically chosen users, like by experience points, or something else, you would probably weed out most of those...

Here's how my idea would work.

Some people should be promoted to art critics. These are basically people who have shown that they can give constructive critique and judge fairly and objective. These people would add all the good pieces they see in an art thread to a list. They could ask people to hint them on good pieces, should they miss a few. These lists are then compiled into one big list, on which the 'normal' users can vote. Admins and staff will obviously have veto on everything, and art critics aren't allowed to put own entries on their list. They would also have the task to investigate a bit if they see a suspicious (ie possibly traces) image. They can then alert mods if something is traced or breaking the rules in any other way. They won't have veto power though.

So, basically, being an art critic would be a choice, and you would 'flag' entries as worthwhile throughout the entire contest. I doubt this will shorten the voting time (it might infact lengthen it), but it will allow for people to vote on entries, without having to scroll through numerous entries.

I think most of you already know this, but Retrogade is indeed a spin-off of Newgrounds, and they openly admit it. The site was founded by Bedn. Yes, the guy who hacked several accounts on NG. Basically, he created a new Newgrounds, but for still art. It's a pretty good site, I used to go there alot myself, until I sort of stopped visiting for some reason. But it's more of a spin-off than a rip-off. I mean, Tom and Wade know about Retrogade.

This suggestion came up when the Art Forum first started. An art portal would do a huge disservice to one of Newground's affiliates, Retrogade.

You know, I was just checking out that retrogade sight. It doesn't even have a portal for flash movies or games i don't think. Just artwork. Kinda lame, don'tcha think?

no....

Voting Idea: I really have no easy way out on that...if there was some kind of script or something it'd still be hard to manually submit all the entries. I really have no clue on how to fix the voting system....Maybe try and get a panel of artists, then each artist picks the top three from each page. Then they all decide on the top ones I donno...

Let Everyone do it and then just make the whole contest in a big forum and then they list there submission in site thing like newgrounds.com/portalview/353634 (that is maybe one i dont know about but doubt it but hey) anyway ya that what u do and everyone can have a say in who wins!!!

OQURW! I dont make flash i just watch it

Here's an idea:
Have a new thread for each contest that signifies votes toward whatever art was in that contest. Say like for next contest. When time's up for contestants to submit art, a new thread can be made to ask users which art they liked best (or possibly 2nd or 3rd best) for that contest. After enough votes, the votes can then be tallied and through that the winners will be decided!

Make a contest forum where only you guys can start a thread, like the news. Let people be able to submit in any size picture they want,(like the art forum) and have a 0,1,2,3,4,5 by the photo.Like in the audio section, nice and small and to the top right .Iif you dont submit ,just comment, then you wont have those six boxes.(ofcourse) And this way, crappy photos can be blammed!

Whatever happened to the elite panel of judges that judged the Pico day falshes, or was that the admins?

Response to Voting Ideas 2006-11-02 23:06:13

Mine isnt so much a voting idea as it is a comment for the next contest and that is that i think it would be cool to have hear/read one or two lines about each winning entry from you all regarding what you liked about the entries that you picked. Or even just the first second & third slot. People/myself included respect you all very much as artists and they are interested in growth and knowledge and it would have been cool to not just get a list of the winners but maybe a one liner or something about what it is that you liked about it.

personally i think the less people involved in the voting process the fairer its going to be.

you give a lot of people power and there going to abuse it, and thats only going to result in a "how did that shit win" problems.

sadly i think the process now is the best one, and though it seems slightly dictatory, no one really wants to arguee against the final decision, ie with the lastest one there was just a few "i wouldnthave choosen that myself" posts.

but i would like to see a T-Shirts won section on profiles, (not just because i won one) but because i won one.

I HAVE A REALLY GOOD IDEA

Program a user named Art Bot, to only accept PM's with the subject as the art contests name, such as 'Video Game Rising'. Then you can have people PM it with votes that you can read and tally.

I donno just a though...

I think maybe something needs to be implemented where the users can vote but they are not aware of who drew what until the end of the contest.

If the voters aren't aware of who drew what then the chances are that all art pieces will recieve slightly fairer judging.

All the entries can be collected by a Moderator, sorted through and posted on a forum post...

Have a random selection of forum/flash users each month voting for the winners.

I can't see how it can be left open to all users to pick a winner as most will unfairly band together to create a winner...

Just a rough idea.

Why not make an image portal? Then again, you'd be destroying what's left of Retrogade.
