The mark on his forhead is the kanji symbol for "Love" it represents that he loves only himself.

The gourd is filled with, and made of, sand. He can control the sand in any way he wants, and some he doesn't. The sand will automatically move to protect him from any attack, meaning it's close to impossible to hurt him.

Thats him half transformed into his demon form. The demon is the Shukaku of Sand, it looks like a mountain sized racoon made of sand. This demon is what lets him control the sand.
