It is TECHNICALLY not illegal to download fansubs of unlicensed anime. It is illegal to download fansubs of licensed anime. (People like me do it anyway, but I don't go bragging about it.)

We are allowed to talk about episodes that are fansubbed here. But you may not tell people how and where to get them.

Example:

If I was to say, "Wow, I just finished watching <episode of anime>, it was really amazing."

That's okay... (as far as the mods have told me in the past...)

But this isn't...

"Wow, I just finished downloading <episode of anime> from <download site>. I'm going to go watch it."

If you buy them on DVD you get the official sub. But I'm guessing you mean on TV. Answer is, I'd like it, but it'd discourage a lot of new people from getting into anime, as they wouldn't want to watch TV with subtitles.
