MVC 3 is such a garbage game. It's absolutely broken mechanically. I flipped my shit when the knockdown hit stun was 3 seconds long. How that game is considered tournament worthy is beyond me, its touch of death the game, and last I recall nobody likes a touch of death.

Vivi was easily my favorite character in the entire series, at least until Nomura fucked him up (in his KH appearance he's voiced by pikachu and has several zippers, including one in his hat. A zipper. In his hat.)
I also liked Garnet (and her ass), Freya was cool and Zidane was refreshing after FFVIII. Still one of my favorite FF protagonists.
I think MVC 3 is okay, but it didn't live up to my expectations. Plus, there were so many characters that should have been in it (Guile, Jin Saotome, Venom, Maximo, fucking Samanosuke). And there were some that were really lame (Haggar, She Hulk). MVC 2 was so much better, and almost every character worked great (except Serv Bot and Roll).

I would have liked to see more lesser known Capcom characters like the ones they used in Tatsunoko vs Capcom
So im just gonna bump this....any opinions on how Oreimo ended?

Naruto, I guess. Its following is massive, but it's crap.

Disappointed. Massively.
But now I can't wait for the waves of buttdevastation on anime forums. It's going to be glorious I'll tell you.

Whenever I see Elfen Lied on a top 10 list (which is far too often) it just blows my fucking mind. It wasn't a bad anime by any means, but I've seen it ranked ahead of Cowboy Bebop which is just absurd. The amount of groan-inducing fan service really held that series back, and parts of the story that were very important and interesting were just glossed over.
EVANGELION. Holy fuck I cannot understand how 90% of the anime community just eats up all of it's bullshit. Shinji and Asuka are two of the most annoying characters ever and the emotional manipulation related to them is so horribly blatant it's hilarious. Whenever I see someone say they're "relatable" or "realistic", I can't help but to laugh. The symbolism is a desperate attempt at making the show deeper than what it actually is and does not make any sense if you actually know what it means. The plot is filled with holes (almost none of them resolved by End of Evangelion) and relies on the assumption that there are no therapists/psychologists left on the planet to take care of the OBVIOUSLY BROKEN DOWN main characters, which would save NERV a lot of trouble, namely Shinji acting like dead weight because of daddy issues.
Worst of all is the fanbase. Say one bad thing about EVA and you get either one of two responses:
1- "You're too stupid to comprehend art. Go away."
2- "You don't know how the anime industry and it's niches worked back when the series was released, so you are incapable of properly criticizing it." I've seen this one so much it's not even cool.
Yeah, as you can tell, I really hate that fucking show and it's fanbase.

Please avoid spoilers, I'd like to see for myself :C

I hate elfen lied with a passion, definitely the worst thing I've sat through. So yeah I'd go with elfen lied not counting the usual naruto/bleach etc.
Death Note is another one, even though I really like death note it gets such an immense amount of praise, far more than it deserves.

never seen lied because i dislike gore, just cant sense the fun of it. and usually work with negative prejudice against the most popular anime, because they usually dont live up to their popularity (naruto, death note, etc)
At 6/6/13 04:42 PM, PWJP wrote: EVANGELION.
As it's my favorite show and I went into it without any prior knowledge, I'm inclined to disagree. Shinji was realistic, in that he was an average wimpy depressed teenager who completely breaks down when he's suddenly trusted with the lives of everyone on earth, instead of the usual hurr willpower you usually get from mecha anime. And he doesn't even matter because he's just a catalyst, he's just there to wake Yui up.
Everything's out of his control and being manipulated behind the scenes. The whole thing's full of conspiracies. The evas were unique, mysterious and terrifying. It's all shrouded in mystery and ambiguity and I found it interesting from start to finish. I can see why people hate shinji as a character, but he is relatable to a lot of people, far moreso than any other mecha protagonist at least.
The religious imagery is not an attempt at anything, it's just there to add mystery. It's all about mystery. And I can't actually think of any plot holes in the original series, other than a few continuity issues. EoE is still possibly my favorite ending to anything. I think it deserves the hype it gets, mostly. imo. It's got originality if nothing else. I could never call it the most overrated when you've got shit like elfen lied, which has nothing but ecchi and shock tactics, yet is hailed by some as the deepest shit ever.
At 6/6/13 03:39 PM, Cootie wrote: What would you list as the most overrated anime of all time?
I would easily put FLCL on this list. It's no secret that I utterly despise this anime, but the only thing that I despise more than than the show itself is the fanbase telling me that it's supposed to be deep and meaningful, when it's shallow as a kiddie pool {and I'm being generous with that} and it simply jams in plot devices and tropes in an attempt to be funny and/or deep. Basically, it's like adding gravy and fixins to fresh roadkill, and yet the fans eat this show up like it's the best anime ever made, and until recently, constant re-airings on Adult Swim's anime block the last 10 years or so doesn't help.
I would also put Evangelion on this list too, but for different reasons than PWJP mentioned. While no one can deny it's massive influence on the anime industry, the series itself isn't exactly epic in it's own right, especially when there doesn't seem to be a concrete ending that doesn't involve the occasional mind screw or continuity error. The last 2 episodes of NGE, the EoE movie and even the Rebuild series doesn't make things any clearer.
More so, the characters, while realistic to the situation, basically are either mentally fractured due to all the legit therapists and councilors being killed off in the Second Impact, {my theory} or have their heads so far up their ass, that they fail to see the rather fiendish plot by Gendo and SEELE to assimilate all of mankind into well, tang. To be fair, they are essentially playing a chess game with each other to see which version of tang will rule the day, but it's kind of hard not to notice some huge red flags on either one of those guys, and somebody would've done something about it.
I don't necessarily hate the series, but I simply don't think it's as good as most people think it is. Strip it down to brass tacks, and it's a series full of symbolism that makes little sense, complicated characters that you hate to love and love to hate, and a quasi-philosophical meaning of love, acceptance and a severe case of schadenfreude.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

I've read the FLCL manga, and I don't know if it's the translation but it literally makes no sense. I can't follow it at all, not even for a few pages.

Seele and nerv are also the only hope of surviving the angel attacks. Most of nerv trusts gendo or at least believe he knows what he's doing, because they don't have any other option really. By the time they realize what the real plan was (if they ever do) it's too late. What could they do, anyway? It's between just letting the world end or having faith in Gendo.
For what it's worth, 3.0 focuses on nerv turning on gendo and seele, even though they completely fuck up the entire plot in the process.

Elfen Lied go on to 50% of those lists because they put it there after seeing the first episode and assumed it would go on like that

no gore anime will ever make it to my top 50 list
other overrated anime is Gurren Laggan, lets face it, its just a shitty anime that only got popular because of Yoko

I'd have to disagree; there's a reason why Elfen Lied is in all of those Top 10 lists.
But yeah I agree with Gurren Lagann. It's ridiculous how popular Yoko got when she hardly made an impact within the series. She was like the most minor main character.
I seriously think that SAO was over-rated; it was good but can we stop referencing everything to SAO? I hate it how so many people go "OMG SAO this, SAO that" talking about a series that has nothing to do with SAO.

she had the kiss of death, every time she kissed someone, that person died right afterwards

Although I do not agree with what you are saying I am not going to drag this out.
Off topic, but I just want to say I think Sgt. frog is my favorite anime, who else likes Sgt. frog? It seems like im the only one on newgrounds that likes sgt. frog.
I thought Gurren Lagann was awesome from what I saw, but I haven't seen any episodes after Kamina died.

well, that explains why you think its awesome, he died somewhere around the first episodes and the show peaks down from there
So I hear Persona 4 is the shit, so im gonna buy a Vita maybe. Thoughts?

Considering there's no games in existence for the vita and a PS2 is a lot cheaper, I'd say get the PS2 version instead.
talking of gurren lagann i watched this really sweet OVA by the guy who directed gurren lagann, who left gainax with a bunch of other dudes
its basically harry potter mahou shoujo

Oh man, Little Witch Academia. I saw that about a week ago, it's awesome - especially considering it was made to train young animators.
Speaking of those guys (Trigger), they have this in the works. Looks pretty damn cool so far, plus they said it's going to be even more intense than GL.
