I'm reading a manga right now called the Drifting classroom, which is about the students of an elementary school trying to survive in a postapocalyptic world. Some of the most intense stuff i've ever read.. If you like to see little kids get killed in gruesome ways or Lord of the flies, check this one out.

I also finished Uzumaki by Junji Ito, which was bizarre, interesting, and maybe a bit disturbing(eg.Woman trying to destroy her own cranial nerve.)
Right now i'm reading Tomie by Junji Ito, which is quite good, but not as captivating as Uzumaki. I've only read about 3 chapters, though.
I'm going to look into more of Kazuo Umezu's work.

I was really happy this week when while looking for Chapter 104 of Claymore I found a website that not only had the chapter I was looking for, but also Gantz.

Naturally I spent the next 2 and a half hours catching up and it was epic.

It's unfortunate the anime is so sketchy because Gantz the manga is a truly ambitious, human, and sometimes terrifying experience.

I'm not a real big manga man myself, but something about apocalyptic society and ultra violent executions piques my curiousity. I'll check it out when I get the chance.

Speaking of ultra violence, I am getting back on watching Violence Jack, {pardon the pun], and maybe some M.D. Geist for my pallate of animated blood and gore. Probably gonna need a couple Prozac after this lol, but oh well....

I'm pretty sure I've seen references to the show in other stuff before, though not anime.

I'd like to start watching Urusei Yatsura. I only saw the first episode a while ago. Too bad Netflix doesn't have all the volumes, and the show is kinda long. And I've been meaning to start Planetes. Speaking of old school stuff, I think I ought to start watching Mellowlink. I saw the first episode and it seemed kinda cool. I thought there was a new series, though, but I've seen nothing.

I had a hard time when i was looking for it online, most sites only have a few chapters of it.
This is the only website that has the whole thing, unless you want to buy the volumes for 10 dollars each on Amazon.

insane

but also pretty neat. it's about as coherent in terms of plot as a child's tangential imagination, which is entirely the point.

This is indeed a fascinating movie, anything Hayao Miyazaki has made is filled with surreal imagery, amazing animation, and highly imaginative to say the least.
If you like Totoro, I'd say it's imperative you check out Spirited Away as well.

My favorite Miyazaki film has always been Princess Mononoke but Spirited Away is also an excellent film, just about all of Miyazaki's films are excellent.

I haven't seen Princess Mononoke, of the Miyazaki films I've seen, Spirited away is simply the best. The story is good, the animation sublime, and it's a good balance of plot elements, while other movies, like Laputa or Kiki's Delivary Service go bit too much in one extreme.

Dude, you must see Princess Mononoke, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't

It has a strong environmentalist theme and is the largest, most epic Miyazaki tale. Not only the movie itself but even some of the voice talent.

Response to Anime Club 2010-07-01 13:45:55

I plan to see Princess Mononoke at the earliest possibility, but as averse as I am to this consept of b-u-y, I own several Miyazaki films on DVD, and will be waiting for the Finnish release of this one, too.

Mononoke, on the other hand, is a complletely different anime series, which I plan on seeing if only because I have a massive boner for the lead character:

I think Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, and Spirited Away are a three-way tie for my favorite Miyazaki movie.

My friend likes to play the one song from Nausicaa on his guitar. The one with the little girl who sounds like she's saying meow. "meoow...meow meow-meow-meow meooow meow". It sounds better on guitar.

Am ah sayin' meow? Am ah sayin' MEOW?

That's a continuation/spinoff/something of a story arc of another show, Ayakashi. I tried to watch the first episode of Ayakashi, but it was loaded with all these cultural notes before anything even happened and I wasn't following what was going on. I'll probably give it another go sometime because Mononoke looks really interesting and I'd like to watch Ayakashi first.

What on Earth is there to censor in K-On!?

Though I have only watched the first season. Maybe in the second season it devolves into hardcore pornography.

As a side note, it's very difficult to have the title of 'K-On!' at the end of a sentence without sounding like you're shouting.

There are corporate logos in each and every episode. If you ever watched the English dub of Code Geass, you'll note that they censored out all the Biglobe and Pizza Hut logos.

Hahaha, no.
I've actually seen part of season 2 and there's no porn. Plenty of stupid antics, but no porn.

I guess you could say that's one of the very few times that censorship can be used for good. I find that the ads feel out of place and become a bit of a distraction when watching the show. It's not a big deal, but I would prefer the ads not to be there.

I'd say D-Gray Man is the one series that you're better off watching than reading. The manga is so cluttered and borderline indecipherable at times that I completely lost track of the plot.

I still try to follow but somewhere along the way I lost the point of it. Probably because my heart was in so many series at one time that I just lost it in the flow.

But I do love me some Eyeshield 21

Unfortunately in K-ON!, that's not the case.
The girls' instruments and equipment are actual models produced by real instrument manufacturers, and digitally airbrushing them out would ruin entire plot lines. For example, one of the episodes centers around Yui trying to purchase a guitar from a local music shop, and the main reason the guitar is so expensive is it's a Gibson Les Paul Standard.
I stockpiled a collection of screenshots as examples, only one of which I can display at a time.
Here.

The real question is why the fuck do you care so much? Shouldn't you watch the show for the show and not the corporate logos in what I can assume is largely in the background?
