We'll just have to get tougher on the younglings.

They must learn our ways.

Younglings? If you're not a youngling, then I am fucking ancient.

This is why people should stop having children. Children are the future, but they're out to replace us.

So, I've decided to check out Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex again. I didn't like what I saw a couple years ago, but taste changes and I think I ought to like it especially since I love the original movie. I also plan on checking out Innocence and Solid State Society.

Funny, I absolutely despise the original movie and that almost put me off S.A.C.

Then I got the boxset for Christmas back in '06 and fell in love with it.

I got that out one time, but didn't end up watching it.

It doesn't interest me that much, though I did like the original movie.

I also plan on checking out Innocence and Solid State Society.

Innocence had some good visuals, but its plot was confusing as fuck.

That summarizes all of Mamoru Oshii's works.

The guy just loves to fuck with our heads.

Yeah, but at least with the first Ghost In The Shell I had some idea of what was going on.

In Innocence, it just seemed like a collection of nonsensical scenes designed specifically to look pretty.

I'm sure it all ties together somehow in the end.

All Oshii films do.

Regardless of how horribly nonsensical they start out, everything becomes clear by the ending.

Nope, I just walked out of the movie theatre with a headache.

I mean, what's up with that part where they just repeat 5 minutes of the film over and over?

One of Oshii's big gimmicks is incessant repetition.

Beautiful Dreamer is loaded with it, nigh-indentical (or sometimes completely identical) scenes repeat until you have every word of dialogue and every bit of background detail memorized.

That said, Oshii has the excuse of the whole "infinite time loop" plot twist in that case.

Heya, folks. Been a while.

Well....... let's see. I've just finished the complete series of Desert Punk and I must say that I was a little disappointed. The show went in some directions I wasn't in favor of but when you think about it, I suppose that everything worked out as it should. Anime has a funny way of doing that. I feel somewhat restless about it because I don't think that the series is over but I have no way of knowing it.

Anyways, I think now I'm gonna move on to the rest of DBZ season one and the begin DBZ season 2.

I'm gonna go back to my room and be awesome.

I'm not thrilled about the sudden twist to more dramatic territory.

I preferred the over-the-top lulz.

Anime has a funny way of doing that. I feel somewhat restless about it because I don't think that the series is over but I have no way of knowing it.

It actually makes sense you'd feel like this with Desert Punk, as it is based on an unfinished manga.

Response to Anime Club 2008-01-21 21:16:07

I figured as much. Thing is though, I wouldn't have it any other way.

That anime was really interesting to me because of the main character. Desert Punk was a terrible person, a complete asshole. And yet, he had so many admirable qualities and little quirks that made him someone that you had to love. And in the end, I felt really distressed over the choices he made. I suppose that it ended in a way that I can only compare to this.

Sure, your house caught on fire, but at least you had insurance.

If that makes any sense.

Hey guys, just thought I'd check in and see how things are going. I'm half way through Strawberry Panic, and just finished watching Code Geass, and Am hoping for a 2nd season for both series. Why don't you guys tell me what anime series you've finished all together and whether or not you recommend them. I'll check back when I'm done watching Strawberry Panic.

Finally got around to watching Lupin the 3rd again, decided to finally watch the original series before finishing off the remaining season or so of Shin Lupin III (which G4 was kind enough to air nearly 80 episodes of, including a few raw Japanese ones for the episodes that did not get dubbed).

The second episode of the original series easily ranks as the best stand-alone episode of any television program of the seventies.

I really don't like that show.

The main character just makes me want to kill someone who looks like him in real life.
