I actually liked Elfen Lied. The story wasn't the very best, but it still had a message...a message that 9/10 people didn't get, but still a message. I hate how people say that it's based on fan service and the gore, when it's not...I think they're just trying to add a bit of ease, or a bit of realism to the whole picture.
I mean, come on, when someone takes a shower or a bath, fog doesn't magically appear over their breasts and genitalia only....they're kinda naked. Sure, it's not necessary to see it all of the time, but if that's the case, at least put the camera behind them. Also, I think the detailed gore was a good thing....I hate how somebody shoots a high powered gun at somebodies face, and the only thing that happens is it gets covered with blood, with a tiny hole in the front part of their head....not to mention they just fall down, rather than move.
At least these guys understand that shooting at somebody=gibs most of the time. And I'm not endorsing the small .22 or 9mm guns blowing off someone's entire face (lol, what anime was that from again?) that's just stupid....I just hate it when I see a character toting a badass .50 AE shoots someone in the side of the head, and all that happens is the person falls down and bleeds.
