Actually, I take that back, I'll never have enough time to be on the forums with all the crap I do, 2 months will be over before I know it.

I recommend anyone who like anime and robot chicken watch this if you haven't already. It lampoons anime and I get about 60% of the jokes (I'm not a hardcore anime watcher, just when its on and I'm bored)

I have a question: Why is D such a common middle initial in One Piece? At least three characters (Gol D. Roger, Monkey D. Luffy, and Portgas D. Ace) prominently include that initial in their names, and maybe more characters have the initial (but only their first names are commonly stated, like Nami and Sanji).

Maybe because they all have something in common or are even blood-related :O
I'm sure Oda will tell us sometime^^

Maybe the guy who made One Piece just REALLY liked Initial D. It's possible. Silly Japanese people do things like that. They so silly.

I work in a video shop that tries to accomodate for people who want to watch movies that you wouldn't get elsewhere. Like classic Holloywood movies and a large selection of foreign cinema.

Since we're in direct competition with XtraVision and other big name chain stores, sometimes we try new things to get new customers. Like special deals on multiple rentals etc.

I gave my boss the idea of having an Anime section since that's not something you would find in most other video shops and obviously there's a demand for that kind of thing. Along with manga and stuff I guess.

She asked me to put together a rough list to get a small section started. Since I'm not a massive fan of the genre I could only suggest a few. So I was wondering if I could hear some suggestions from you guys, I mean you're the experts.

We already have the following in stock:

Akira
Tokyo Godfathers
Spirited Away
Sky Blue

And I suggested these:

Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle
Grave of Fireflies
Steam Boy

Any ideas guys?

InuYasha: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
basically any full-length movie based on a popular TV series.

I thought about stuff like that, not those particular examples, but I don't think it would work for us because most anime programmes aren't shown over here.

Well, they are already parodies of it such as Initial G (Gundam) and Initial G (Pronounced Ge, as it is a parody of Initial D using Getter Robot characters).

Well you certainly also need My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service, but that basically covers the main big films. To suggest more would be to get into more obscure titles, is that ok?

Response to Anime Club 2006-03-24 05:24:47

Sorry to make this a double post, but I suppose I should make a little heya post. I suppose I could come around and post in this little club. I haven't really gotten a chance to watch much anime though, if anyone knows of a good site to download some fansubs that would be swell. Any time I do a search the site ends up being hard as hell to navigate.

Recently, I've borrowed a couple of DVDs from a friend and I've been trying to watch through all of the anime on them. They include:
Cosplay Complex
FutaKoi
Green Green
Ichigo 100%
Neon Genesis Evangelion

So far I've only been able to watch all of Cosplay Complex (short, only 3 episodes). It's quite interesting to say the least. One of the main characters is a lesbian pedophile (yeah...) and she keeps hitting on this little kid. It's really messed up. Pretty funny though, story is dumb but like that really matters. Anyone else seen it?

Aye, that'll do to start. See if we get much response from them and we might get more if needed.

Cheers

never seen it but it sounds pretty cool (*gasp* VIDEOGAMEMASTER64 has returned from his inactivness!!!) and neon genesis is a great anime although there be a lot of nudity and sex later in the saeries
