NG HEADER
Does anyone else think the current Newgrounds header looks better than the original?
I like the colors and it looks spiffy!

Also, thanks Luis and DreamworX. I'll go check it out.

I think so too :) But with that said, I think that I'll welcome back the old one next month. This one may look pretty, but I would definitely not want it there for a longer period.
Imagine Newgrounds was all purple instead of orange.
That'd be CRAZY.

Yeah, purple doesn't really fit the "feel" of Newgrounds very well. I think it look like crap.

They're probably gonna work on that after Ng Mag and the store and the chat, ect.
So basically not for a while.

I thought they just gave up on NG MAG. They had a layout and just abandoned it or whatever. I remember hearing that, and somehow it just didn't end up working out...

If it were purple you'd think orange would look like crap, you're not imagining very deeply.

Silly Coaly. Orange+Black is simply aesthetically pleasing. It's hard to see anything with purple on black, but a very light shade of purple wouldnt be horrible.
Shows how much programmers know about colors :P
Ng mag will transform into something else. Think of it as a sex change done by the most acclaimed surgeon in the world.
trust me youll want to fuck the shit out of it when its new identity is revealed.

C'mon NG Office live feed webcams!
Stalking is fun. :3
Or special thing where artists/authors can give out info on work - both finished and under production. Simular to NG Mag as it is now, just pimped out to the shit with sexy graphics and fancy new features.

Shows how much you know about regs, because Coaly is an animator.
Coaly is a hybrid...hermaphrodite coder/artist if you will.

Nothin' much really, but dang am I happy that I get-her-down. Ding! Ya know those guyz I always talk 'bout? Ya can read up on me and the rest of us idiots now. :P We'll add lil' bits of info on us each to it over time I figure. It's also really good to have some new faces in a group.
If any of you didn't know yet the whole Duder E. thing is made up of a tight group close friends and we're all very anti-social too. Started out with two friends of mine and myself. Then evolved from there. Latest dudes are a kid that has more experince with dreamweaver and web design then me - Dan: who we send to 7/11 for munchy runs. And the other is a gun-nut named Nick I met at my school who's an anthromorphic artist.
We're an odd bunch.

You've convinced me to re-install quicktime (At the moment it crashes everytime it loads and firefox closes etc.) and I'll watch it once thats done ;D

Well there was 'riots' for the pink/purple aura before the redesign.

Which is Fruity Fish?
What would you guys say is the best way to come up with levels for a puzzle game that are challenging?
I only have experience with one (still in alpha) puzzle game...
Anyways, I think one good system is to work backwards - starting with the final step, add in a group blocks or whatever that each require one more move to be performed before the previous setup (shifting the previous setup if stuff moves after stuff is deleted e.g. in a falling tile game).
At the end, double-check that there isn't an easier method you overlooked.

A player might develop fatigue where they've done like 3 hard puzzles in a row and just stop playing. So while you're making sure the challenges get harder, make sure to throw an easy one in every so often.
This got me thinking about difficulty curves.
I still regard G&W gallery 2 (or maybe 3) on the GBC to be the epitome of difficulty ramping. Due to the simple nature of the games and lack of new elements, it's fairly easy to measure the difficulty - just a measure of the speed. However, rather than tie in speed to time (for example) they have some formula where
Speed = K(score%100)+L((score-(score%100))/100)
K and L are unknown constants.
In other words, speed ramps up steadily up until 99 points, at which point it drops of suddenly, getting harder until 199, dropping off etc. See the graph below.
Also, because increased speed means your score is increasing faster, there's a bit of a curve - probably more than in my totally-not-to-any-scale graph below.
Do you guys have any games that you aspire to in terms of their difficulty curve?
Also, I recently finished playin through the Orange Box. It comes with Developer Commentary that's like a lesson in level design. It's mint.
I bought a stupid fucking mac and can't play it without getting finicky software. I reckon I'll buy it today after finally finishing college work and hope my bro's PC is powerful enough to run it. Harumph.

I'll re-send it.

I am so not one of these people
I'm more of a programmer than an animator so that makes sense right? (lol a crappy programmer too)

Cinco = 5 in spanish
Mayo = May in spanish
de = of in spanish
so it means the Fifth of May...yayz!
I don't know what it really celebrates

Im not mexican but when i was last in mexico i was told that nobody in mexico or mexicans in general rarely celebrate Cinco de Mayo ... its a holiday white people use to get drunk.
None
Cinco De Mayo is a Mexican Holiday in which Mexicans celebrate their independence since they earned it in some battle or whatever. It's basically for the Mexican-Americans though since it's more relevant to the US Civil War.
Along with the whole, Mexican-Independence Day, thats another story.
Hm...Stolen Flash
I suppose you saw my thread in the BBS, but My submission was in the daily top 6. Since the game will be deleted, will the awards be passed onto the next top place? Or will the whole day just totally be recalculated for the awards, since I already got daily 2nd for my animation challenge which is on FP.

As I said in that thread, none of the awards change.
