Yes of course, how else do you beat huge battles in FF, its pure strategy when the battles last that long

Soldier Front

Anyone ever played Soldier Front? Its an online CoD type game. Its a downloadable game and stuff, and its really fun. I just found it today and i'm gonna be playin it a lot (and its full screen so I can't check of this every other second)

Heres the link for anyone who wants it

Meh it doesn't take that long. Emerald Weapon (from 7) had about 500,000hp and in X you can do 5 figure damage. So every round you can do about 3 x 30,000 damage. The longest part is getting your characters hp high enough so they don't get ko'd in one hit.

Final Fantasy

At last, we get to a topic I can be enthusiastic about! :P

That series played such a big part in my childhood. I have every game for it you can play on a PS2 (well, not XI). I'm currently fighting my way through VI, since I discovered that turn-based RPGs are an excellent way to relieve insomnia.

At 4/12/08 08:43 PM, DreamworX wrote:
I just beat FFX recently (ok, I guess like half a year ago but...) and you get like fuckin connected to those characters, like I was depressed after I saw the ending movie cuz I loved tidus, he was awesome man...
Yeah, I really liked the story of FFX. A few months ago I finished FFXII, I really loved the new battle system, as well as pretty much all the other aspects of the game, except for the story. I did not feel anything for the characters, and I barely felt any need of continuing the story to know what would happen next.. I spent the majority of the time finishing side quests, and similar.

FFXII still was an awesome game though.

You're joking? I hated the story of FFX. It was way, way too linear and predictable, not to mention shockingly voice acted.

All I can say about FFXII's story is that it takes a lot longer to get into, but really pays off in the end. The characters are all a lot more rewarding IMO, not to mention better acted. I also like it when your antagonist is morally ambiguous, which is great. The cut-scenes leading up to the final boss are some of the best moments in any story ever, as far as I'm concerned :P

Although X-2 isn't worth playing. Also for those with X, how many dark aeons have you beat? I'm at the stage where I can comfortably beat Ifrit. I've not attempted any after him yet.

I remember spending like a week over summer beating all of them (I really need a real job :s). The last guy is just insane - I basically just power-levelled Rikku, Wakka and Tidus and ignored everyone else. A hint for you: Get everyone's luck up. You want to be able to crit with every attack, not to mention dodge all the physicals. Tidus also needs higher luck, since the crit chance on the moves of his epic overdrive is lower than everyone else's

One of the more annoying and satisfying things for me about the series is how much you can power up your characters above what is necessary for beating the final bosses. X is the worst - by the time you've beaten even one dark aeon you can pretty much wipe out all the last bosses in one or two hits each. And power grows exponentially, too, so you can get owned by one secret boss one minute and be able to wipe the floor with him after an hour or so of powering up.

Actually, the last guy in FFXII took a ridiculous amount of time. I was clocking it - three hours :s The good thing about the gambit system in that game is that with the last bosses you can just leave the fight running while you finish making a flash or something - you only really need to get in when he powers up when you get to his last two or three health bars. Out of fifty.

I wanna play FF7 really bad now :'(

Me too :P That and FFVI are two of the best games ever. They're certainly the top of their respective generations. Plus, aside from the graphical differences, the soundtracks and themes are both that perfect combination of nihilism and optimism that I've not seen any other RPG or game pull off.

If nobody's got a copy of VI, either the original or one of the ports (the PS1 one in my case), get onto eBay and find one. You'll thank me.

And remember to wait for Shadow on the floating continent in the World of Balance. I spend hours looking for him in the second half without realising that if you don't wait for him in the first, he's dead forever. I hate when games stick stuff like that in which is clearly only intended to make you get the strategy guide :/ XII was the worst with its fucking bazaar.

Anyway, rant over. If nobody here's played any of the FF games, go get either VI or VII. Also, IX is great for anyone who's into the series, since it's basically one long nostalgia trip back to older instalments.

I still haven't finished a single FF game.

Started 7; got upset when I read a spoiler in Edge (bear in mind I'm normally about 2-3 years behind everyone else in terms of TV shows/games I'm not super-excited about) and didn't fancy continuing. I've got FF2/3 (4/6) in a drawer next to me but still haven't actually sat down to play either.

I think something about the giant time investment necessary doesn't sit well with me.

Yeah, that's the exact same 3 I've been using. As for the luck, Tidus luck is about 23 or so, the others about 19. The only way you can get the spheres to activate them though is by fighting that Earth-Eater fella, which is damn annoying =P How high were your luck figures?

Also what really helps me is the Auto-Phoenix Rikku's got. Providing the aeon can't unleash two attacks that damage everyone in a row, I'm practically unknockoutable.

Final Fantasy XI brought in the whole characters battling their enemies within the same screen rather than going into the whole "battle mode," correct? XII uses those tactics as well. It sucks that IX was only a online PC game. Bleh.

And XII, I have that... It was a pretty fun game. Vaan was a pretty fun main character, and the whole storyline was alright. I liked how it was based upon the medieval times. That was a plus. I love games like that.

I'm wondering how Final Fantasy XIII is coming along. Anyone going to get that baby?

I kinda like the battle system of FFXII because its different from the rest (well...besides X-2, but that just sucked) and it switches it up a bit. It is based in older times which I kinda like and I kinda don't. In all its a good game, but it has even better mini-quests and side games. Like the hunt or whatever its called, that is fuckin fun. Its pretty much you go searching for a creature way better then you, then you get to kill it and get loads of money. Its wonderful!

and to Paranoia, FFX had the best story line of them all, it was predictable, but so are all the other ones. And it wasn't too predictable, who would of known that what happened to tidus would have happened (for those who haven't beat the game) well, besides the hint that was given to you by that one little kid. It ended happily but sadly, I love that.

Even though FF7 is lacking on graphics, its still an amazing game and the cut scene graphics are amazing! The cut scene graphics in ff7 on PS1 are a little better than the normal graphics on FFX (which is pretty good for a PS1 game). I haven't played it since I was a little kid so I don't really remember the storyline, I kinda just remember the highlights of the game (what happens to aeris, last couple bosses, etc.) What I really miss about FF7 is choocbo racing though...that was extremely fun...for a little bit. I kinda wanna play FF7 for the chocobo racing, but I'd get bored in like 5 minutes.

I kinda liked FFX-2 when I was playing it, but now if I think about playing it again it just seems boring and I don't want to play it. The story was...I dunno, once again, I haven't played it since I was little. All I remember is that there was a battle system similar to FFXII, but worse. I remember there was rikku, Yuna, and...Payne...Seriously, whose payne anyway? Did they just throw a random character in there?
I hate rikku, just cuz...well in FFX I don't train her and just use her for her overdrive...Yuna is actually pretty good, like I said in my FFX she has better magic than lulu (and so does tidus)...and Payne, the actually good one in the group.

FFVIII was a good game too. WIth Squall, Quentis, Zell, uhh...I can't exactly remember who else. I never beat it because it always froze half-way through the game. The part I remember most about this game is running from the spiderish thing on your first mission. That guy was easy but I would always try to kill him instead of try to get away from him so I always got owned. I really miss the card game from FFVIII so thats probably why I was addicted to the Newgrounds Card Game so much, since its a remake of the card game.

FIX, I think thats nine in roman numerals anyway. Ok, so my brother claims Final Fantasy 9 is the best one in the series. I was never too fond of it for some reason. I mean sure, it was good, its final fantasy its gotta be cool, but I'd rather play 7 or 8. I remember there was some card game in this one too, but I only remember it vaguely, it was probably fun but...whatever :p.

<rant>
The one thing I hate about ALL Final Fantasies are the stupid puzzles. Like in FFXII (most recent one I've played so I remember it the most) there are a bunch of puzzles. And its one of those things where you hit the switch or whatever, go run somewhere, go back, hit the switch again, go run somewhere, come back, etc. I hate it, its tedious and truthfully I don't know why they put it in there if all its going to do is piss people off.
</rant>

I think Tidus was about 120, and the others 100. They were all pretty much maxed out in strength and defences, too. Once you get really high stats, you can take out the monster arena guys basically as easily as normal mobs :P Wait till you complete your sphere grids and need to start deleting old spheres to slot in high-power ones.

Also what really helps me is the Auto-Phoenix Rikku's got. Providing the aeon can't unleash two attacks that damage everyone in a row, I'm practically unknockoutable.

Yeah, that's pretty much essential :P Just wait till you need to get ribbon for half your guys.

Meh, Vaan was alright. Balthier was the best main character in that, though. And Cid was the best guy overall - he was as awesome and antagonist as Kefka, and his voice and motion actors were spot on.
