Were you like, listening to what the guy was saying? Its pretty much just two microphones, places the same distance away from each other as the average persons ears. Then just both set to record, set one to left and one to right...

I kind of figured out that they did that after I listened to it a second time more closely.

Also I have a question for the regulars. How do you make it so when you post a code it is in the dark highlighted section? I have been trying to do it and i cant figure it out. I feel like such a noob asking that.

I don't know why, but that was one of the scariest things ever :P You could do some mega horror stuff with that technique.

I just got done watching a really weird movie...Sweeney Todd. Its a musical (but still good) about a barber. Instead of shaving their beard he cuts their throats, sends em down this one thing, makes them into pies, and sells them.

Its really weird and dark, but still an awesome movie

We did it in year 9 Drama. I've never seen the film. But I did see the BBC Drama of it. It was pretty good.

Sweeney Todd + A barber shop sound thing... coincidence?

Wow that barber shop thing was crazy, I was giggling through the entire thing, I really thought someone was standing next to my when the dude started whispering. It's funny because we've been discussing this subject in my psychology classes the last couple of weeks. Interesting find.

I <3 Melbourne. My uncle lives there and I spent a week and a bit there. It was fab. I'm going out there again in a few years and will probably spend time in Melbourne again. However, my favorite place was Fraser Island - just off the south coast of Queensland. I loved my holiday to Australia. Was the best yet. We're hoping to go to New Zealand soon.

Animators Survival Kit

Is this worth getting?
I know several of you have it but I'm not entirely sure if I should bother getting it.
What kind of things does it cover and did you feel that it helped improve your skills as an animator?

NG Australia Meetup
I believe Lu's organising one for January 09. Set to be in Melbourne around the 19th. But you didn't hear it from me.

It's worth looking at. It's an interesting read, if you can get past the author's mentality that everything happens a certain way and that's the right way. It's like ordering a biscotti with your coffee... you get it because you are hungry and need something to chomp at beyond your normal cup.

Any of you lads happen to have a PS3/CoD4? I see everyone swapping Wii friends codes or whatever it's called and I really feel left out...

My ID is Xeptic-nl, because I really love originality.

Alot of his tutorials are pretty basic. But I feel he explains them in a really good way. I rate his tutorials higher than the AS tutorials from cartoonsmart. And you have to pay for them.

RE: Animators Survival Kit
I agree... i found the writing style kind of hitlerish. I've been reading it again for the sake of giving it a second chance.. i think if you are able to extract the educational value from it then you can adapt some technique into your current animations.. i definately would not look at it as a survival kit ... in that you NEED it to survive in the scene. Theres many animators that are awesome and self taught in a manner totally different than the way the kit wants you to learn.

RE: Australia Meet
I'm going to throw something together next year. I havent figured out when yet. Originally i was thinking Jan. but it turns out its most expensive around that time of year (suprising) so i may do it later on in the year... March and April seem to be far cheaper. It would be held in the Melbourne area.
Will probably need someone to be a source of leadership in getting that off the ground, much like Tom of the SuperFlashBros was when i arranged the first london meet. On subsequent meets i'll be able to take over and offer more authority.

Well, I don't really read the tutorial-parts. I like more the other posts, like monetizing his games and discussing things.

Flash Ads Vs. MochiAds?

Alright, so most of the people here now of the new flash ads (seeing as it is the flash forum) and I was wondering...Which one is better the flash ads or mochiads...

by better I want..

Money (of course)
How they look in-game
and anything else you like better or worse than the other

I mean right now I like the flash ads because you don't have to wait 10 seconds and you can put it almost anywhere, and they support newgrounds!

But I am wondering about the money, TomFulp said that flash ads in a game will make about $0.50 to $1.60 per 1,000 views. and flash ads in a movie will make about $0.20 to $0.30 per 1,000 views.

I mostly make games and so I kinda wanna know about the games thing

Most of you are probably gonna say "GET A SPONSORSHIP" but...In some sponsorships you can have mochiads and such...and none of the games I make are going to get sponsored...or very many views on newgrounds.

What would you guys suggest for the most money and such

He's cool.

You're welcome
(Ema's Blog)

Emanuele is worth watching for two reasons. One, he's pushing every programmer here forward by telling everyone how to make the simple games. Second, he's showing people how to monetise.

Now this is something I'm interested in. Because it's forcing us to get better since he's bringing game programming and advertising to the masses. And since they're all being monetised, soon we're all going to make much better games if we want to get paid for it.

[*adjusts his scales*]

If money is your biggest concern this early in the game, then I wouldn't step up to plate with a hard wood bat and try to smash the ball out of the park while people are watching from the stands or from the hill that conveniently overlooks the field so you can have a picnic or something while you watch.

Well if they're not going to get a lot of views on newgrounds and you dont think they're good enough to be sponsored, don't do ads yet. Build up a reputation, make something you're proud of, and then worry about the $s. If money is your biggest concern this early in the game, then I wouldn't play ball.

Well of course I'm still learning and I'm not just spitting out games for money...

But if I learn AND make money at the same time, then 2 pluses for one right?
