Personally i want them both to flop, and DVD to lead the way for many a year to come :)

That will happen even if Blu-Ray wins, it'll take years before everyone has a Blu-Ray player at home.

I don't understand how you can claim that you should have the right to vote, when you wont know the choices available for you if you would get to do so? If this was reality, they might just as well skip the voting and cast lots for who's going to win.

HD and Blu-Ray
Is there any difference between the two other than the branding? I always though they were different names for the same thing.

Comcast
So the FCC is finally doing something about Comcast blocking Bit Torrent traffic (REMEMBER piracy discussion is against the forum rules), which means that penalties will be forced upon Comcast for illegal filtering. In the United States, it is illegal for internet service providers to block internet traffic or in any way modify it. Comcast is getting fined. Up to $195,000, in fact, per subscriber. Which imposes a maximum $1,770,000,000,000 fine for the 9.1 million subscribers they may have blocked.

So for once in my life, I finally believe in consumer karma. If you haven't heard my Comcast stories before, well, they aren't pleasant. It ultimately resulted in a month late service installation, tons of cash lost, and a guy taking a shit and clogging my toilet to the point of overflowing. And then a customer service woman not being able to spell "Quail" or "Meadows".

No they are similar, but still different technologies. I think the main difference between them both is that blu ray has a larger capacity.

In perspective, the World Wide GDP was $48,245,198,000,000. (according to Wikipedia)
Comcast would have to pay the equivalent of all the wealth generated by Italy last year (I'm assuming they'll also have considerable legal fees...)

Mind you, they'll need to know who was using bittorrent to get those numbers. Who'd come forward admitting THAT?

Good point.. If I'm not mistaken, BitTorrent in itself isn't illegal though and there are legal torrents out there as well. So if someone claims that s/he was looking for legal torrents, there's not really much they can do to prove to the opposite, right?

Alot of legitimate websites use Torrents for downloads as it's much more efficient compared to HTTP downloads. It would be alot easier if sites like Adobe offered it for trial downloads, as torrents can be downloaded over PC reboots, whereas HTTP downloads don't work like that =(

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2008-01-09 14:05:52

Torrents are just a protocol, there's nothing illegal about that. Everybody should use it for big popular downloads. You could probably find the trial for download on torrents aswell, that's nearly legal too.

This doesn't sound at all what you've said earlier, but if this is the case than I could agree that you might do a good job on the monthly voting.

There seems to be a few different ways of looking at auras, some choose the color that looks coolest on their current level icon, some actually uses it as it was originally supposed to be for; a way to show how they vote (and mods don't really have much of a choice than to use their yellow aura :P). I have never thought of the light aura as something that means that you only vote 5 on the flashes that deserves it, and skip the voting completely on those that doesn't. I have a light aura as well, and my take on it is that if I have a hard time choosing the score to give a flash, I usually round high. Maybe you should consider that as well, then you'll get your exp every day and maybe be eligible for the monthly voting, since you're still watching the flashes all it takes is a second or two to vote on it.

When you've been bogged down working for hours on a specific Flash piece or you can't seem to figure out why your game glitches what do you do to relax or get your mind off of work?

I'm going to go ahead and say no one can use Newgrounds as an excuse, because it's fairly obvious that we all come here all the time for one reason or another.

For me one of the easiest ways of refocusing myself is getting my heart rate up and getting my blood moving. Usually I'll stretch or practice idling handstands or seeing how long I can stand only supporting myself with one arm. It someone gets me energized.

What do you do?

On the same lines, I will usually go outside and go for a walk. I'll eat lunch and just let things settle down a bit.

I notice a lot of developers will reach the point that they are so frustrated that they hate Flash, and the best way to avoid that is to completely let your mind go from your projects every once in a while. Getting mad at Flash is a bad, bad thing, especially if you are working with it 40 hours a day.

I watch TV or play some video game generally, or sometimes I go and eat something.

If I get angry at it the best thing to do is just take a day off from working on it and calm down. It's easier to think rationally when you're calm, which sometimes makes it easier to solve a bug.

But watching TV helps.

Also, in most cases when I get annoyed or tired of a project, I'll take that time to make some music for the game. Aqua Slug was a good example of that, cause with the 2 weeks we had to make the game it was getting a bit tiring working on it so much, but I loved working on the beachy music for a few hours.

He played the hot stud muffin general in Mulan and he had a day time talk show with his sister, Marie. Currently, I think he host the gameshow Pyramid.
