Spring Cleaning

It's not spring yet i know, but as fellow flash regs could people get in the habit of pm'ing myself, kirk-cocaine, blackmarketkraig, or jmtb02 when you spot a bullshit collab?

What exactly is a bullshit collab? Well, i've been running into collabs that really dont have any sort of direction... they will post the specs.. and then have a one liner of that says something like : 'just make something cool' or 'make anything but sticks' ....

This does not mean make flaming posts in their topics or rude comments. just pm someone and have it locked or dealt with.. the key is educating people a bit. I know its easy as fuck to get a 3.0 ba now and thats fine now we just gotta make sure in making collabs there is actually a shred of thought put into it by the collab host.

Will do. I usually just post in there to tell them to get some original ideas and get the rules in their mind. I'll just IM you and BMK. That others don't like me :(.

What exactly is a bullshit collab?

You'll know. It's obvious. About 90 - 95% are...

Hey, you yelled at me for doing that! I was just telling them that they shouldn't have made the idea for a collab and it should be original. Is that REALLY ranting or spamming?

New Year's Resolution

Although I despise new year's resolutions, I think I'll force my self to pick up a sport again in 08. My current lifestyle is too unhealthy. Oh, and I also want to submit a new animation next year, it's been too long since I last finished something portal-worthy.

Best and worst moment of 2007?

So with xmas out of the way and the year just days away from being over, i thought it'd be nice to reflect on what things went well for you and maybe things that werent that enjoyable. Obviously you dont have to go into it in great detail if you dont feel comfortable but it might be interesting to hear some of your successes and points of improvement.

I think the best thing for me was being able to go out and meet a bunch of you goons, it made me become even more passionate about the site when i started to realize just how extensive its reach is and how excited other people around the world are about it. I hope that I'm able to continue that but if I'm not then I am happy I was able to do so.

As for things that didnt go so well this year, I had an unusually high amount of deaths of relatives this year, its been somewhat sobering experience because i spent so many years of my life not having to deal with that aspect of life. I guess if there was any good to come from it it was that you really should make the most out of your life... that doesnt mean go out and jump out of planes or save the world but just do things that make you happy. Even if its just something simple like stay out riding your bike an extra half hour longer or making a friend out of someone you normally wouldnt have considered before.

In the end, your happiness is important and you only have one life to live.

Best and worst moment of 2007?

Aye their was a lot of good and bad in my parts for me this long yet fast year.

I think my best is that I really became more productive. I use to be such a lazy half-asser. This year I've become passionate about flash and forced myself into a routine where I am happy and still somewhat well rested. I'm amazed at how much I managed to get done. Also am happy at how well I did in school so far this year. Their hasn't been anything higher then a C+ on me report card for years.

My worst is for sure the pickle eating addiction just 'round the end of last summer. Sure it was funny eating nothing but pickles pretty much though I really did enjoy them... however the upset stomachs and overall result of a bad diet really messed me up both physically and mentally. I'm sure the lack of sleep didn't help either.

I think the one thing I enjoyed most this year though was just chattin' to all of ya cool cats. It's a nice break from the lonelyness of my house and never-ending hours of women bitching at me. NG is a real cool place... I'm goin' to stick 'round for a long time I think. So good luck puttin' up with me! :P

The not so good part was probably when I heard that Phantom killed himself (just today).

Funny how you say it's "not so good" after what you posted in his blog.

If this is true, I've lost all respect for you and will never call you a hero for this. Shame on you and if you've committed suicide - have fun in hell. RIT - Rest in Toil. That's what happens to all people who commit suicide.

Wheither he did do it or not that's still quite mean and offensive. Judging by your strong believes of hell I'm going to guess your a christian boy. I've read a few versions of the bible and from what I understand shouldn't you be forgiving him for his "sins"? The "sin" in this case being suicide.

Religion doesn't really matter, but still you should try to give poeple more respect. I can understand if you had emotional attachments to the subject. If this thing turns out to be a joke I'm sure many with be angry and loss a fair amount of respect for him. However in the case that he actually did kill himself or is having problems you shouldn't post hurtful things like that. For all you know he could still be alive and your very post could contribute to his feelings and choice of commiting suicide.

I'm not picking on ya or trying to put you on the spot. It's just I myself have gone through lot's of hard times in my life and have a lot of experince with death of both family members, friends, and friends of friends. It just feels wrong seeing someone tell someone else in trouble to "have fun in hell" while the one person may actually being having suicidal thoughts.

Insulting someone about how they'll "go to hell" if they commit suicide while their having suicidal thoughts doesn't seem like the best approach to the problem.

Best and Worst etc

I've had a lot of good moments this year at school. I love being in the NHS, cause we get a special room with a TV and whatever else we bring in. Who'd guess that I spend an hour at school every day playing super smash bros. It's a blast, and it makes the school day so much easier to get through when you get a video game break in the middle.

Plus AP physics owns. With only 3 people in the class, we get to negotiate due dates and learn at a really fast pace.

Also getting accepted into Digipen was a huge happiness for me.

Worst moments for me have to be crashing my car and.... well not much else bad happened besides that. Crashing the car was a real bummer for me a week before christmas, and getting a GPS for christmas made it all the more painful.

I can't be nice to someone for committing suicide - even if he was my best friend. And I also said "If this isn't true, not very funny but I wouldn't have lost all respect for you." I hope he is joking but he has complained quite a bit in the past so I think it is true. :'(

Tell him his penis is fantastic, thats the answer to all your troubles.

But if your seriously serious(seriously) Make him feel good, or tell someone, thats what my health teacher taught me back in the day.

I mean, I can't be nice to someone for wanting or saying they're going to commit suicide. And I do see you're point though... I probably should've been a bit nicer about it.

I know you cant be nice to someone but you really should... do you really want to be the last straw and carry around that guilt?

He's obviously going through a tough time, the last thing he needs is more people disappointed in him... its a very delicate and dangerous situation, id avoid acting on impulse despite your feelings on suicide... people dont just get suicidal from one day to the next.. its usually been brewing for a long time and you have to be really careful to be constructive but not preachy.. you want to establish trust and support.. not further isolate him.

Honestly I was surprised at how neat it was... I feel bad for having a messy room now. :P
Hasn't been vacummed for months, old boxes of junk food on floor layin' around, and who knows what the crap the things under my bed are...

Over planning/preparedness.
I'm working on this one toon that I think should be done sometime mid next year at the rate I'm going. Anyway I think I'm overdoing it with the whole planning and preparing it. I got detialed scripts, storyboards, sketches of bg and character poses on frames, labels describing what happens, been practicing drawin' the characters, and yeah... Most I ever do is whip up a short script so I feel so over prepared and junk. I don't know I need some opinions here. What do you guys do when ya prepare a new flash?

'Tis the season.

That's very nice of you, Lou. I've been wondering though...the reason I use a tablet is because I needed a tool to mimic how I draw with a pencil on paper. I'm a fairly decent artist and if I could replicate how I draw traditionally, on a computer, then I thought my animations would improve. I was right. I can draw fine with a mouse too, but everything seems to come out in a different looking style. It's not bad...just different.

My question is, how are your pencilin/pen skills Luis? Do you have work from school or recently that you've done?

Best of 2007:
My trip to usa last may.. It was awesome. Met up with family i haven't seen in a long while and made a pretty awesome roadtrip with a friend.
Ofcourse completing Jinas was cool too.

Worst of 2007:
After a few too many beers i ended up in bed with a pretty ugly lady. My friends still make jokes about it. Ugh, wish i could reverse that. Also the passing away of a relative really sucked..

Mario Galaxy
Any of you have played this game? Damn it's awesome. I played it the entire night last night and i must say this one is up there with the classics Mario Bros and Mario 64. The level design is some of the best i ever seen (been playing games for almost 20 years) and the entire planet concept is pure awesome. The way you have to think in '3d' sometimes is great and it's very impressive how the spacial organization of all the 3d elements are. It's pure architecture.. For me definitely the best game of 2007.
