Evolution

Evolution isnt a 'belief', its a fact. What part of this is wrong?

- Animals are slightly different each generation.
- Every now and then, this slightly different feature would mean that the animal would have more babies.
- The animal's babies would have this feature as well, and also have slightly more babies. They in turn have babies, still with thast feature.
- This keeps happening for so long, that eventually every animal in that species has it.

If you can say that any part of that isnt true, I'll be extremely shocked. It isnt a religion, its an obvious, logical thing that happens.

AS3 tutorial collab

I've been thinking about this for a bit, and was woundering if I should do it. I would obviously ask dep if he didnt mind if I used the whole 'Tutorial collab' thing, but if he didnt mind, should I do it? And would there be enough people who would join?

You've got that much to gain and nothing to lose except a few minutes of your time over the course of a year. That's much less important than the absolute philosophical truth about everything.
If God knows all your thoughts and how many hairs are on your head, then wouldnt he be able to know that your beliefs arent genuine? I'm sure God would be able to distinguish between the guy who spends his life serving God and the guy who sorta maybe kinda believes just in case it is actually true.

I'd agree totally with that, and that's really one of the big problems I have with religion. All through Catholic School we were told that you were judged on your faith or how you repent, and blah like that. Now, to me that's such a depressing Big Brother-esque scenario. Nobody's got any right to judge you on what goes on inside your skull. It's not like you can really control the way you think about things. Judging people on their actions and things - sure; that's all cool - but there's no way anyone with a reasonable amount of fairness would judge someone purely on the deep rooted beliefs they have.

Also, I'm getting carried away with talking about religion and things here. Bugger.

Hey thats probably why its called a theory right?

- Animals are slightly different each generation.
How so? Provide some evidence, I've never heard that ever.

Its like, lets say 2 dogs - Dalmation and a German Shepard had a pup, the pup would have traits and features of each its mum and dad.

- Every now and then, this slightly different feature would mean that the animal would have more babies.
Again, what are you talking about?

Im not sure about this, but maybe he means that the babies will follow the traits of its ancestors.

- The animal's babies would have this feature as well, and also have slightly more babies. They in turn have babies, still with thast feature.
That only happens with interbreeding.

But, 2 humans are always different, same with any other animal (dogs for another example). 2 of the same type of dog, Dalmations. The father doesnt have spots, and the mother does, this would mean the pup would have less spots then a dog bred with both parents covered in spots.

If you can say that any part of that isnt true, I'll be extremely shocked. It isnt a religion, its an obvious, logical thing that happens.
There is no evidence for what you are saying. That isnt even part of the evolutionary THEORY. That wasnt even part of Charles Darwin's books. Its funny because what you are saying disagrees with evolution itself, because the official TM name is the evolutionary theory.

Yeah, i havent read everything every body else says, but im just pointing out what I think he means ;D

Evolution isnt a 'belief', its a fact. What part of this is wrong?
Hey thats probably why its called a theory right?

I meant that its so blindingly obvious that it is a fact. There is no serious alternatives.

- Animals are slightly different each generation.
How so? Provide some evidence, I've never heard that ever.

Do you look like a caveman? Do you have the exact same skills as any of your anesestors? No. It very slightly changes through each generation. Random Genetic Mutation. Google it.

- Every now and then, this slightly different feature would mean that the animal would have more babies.
Again, what are you talking about?

How could you not understand? Lets say a fish has a longer tail than the other fish, meaning it can swim faster. When it gets attacked, its less likely to get caught, so it lives longer. In its londer life, it will breed more.

- The animal's babies would have this feature as well, and also have slightly more babies. They in turn have babies, still with thast feature.
That only happens with interbreeding.

No it doesnt. You obviously have common features with your parents. Same with animals.

There is no evidence for what you are saying. That isnt even part of the evolutionary THEORY. That wasnt even part of Charles Darwin's books. Its funny because what you are saying disagrees with evolution itself, because the official TM name is the evolutionary theory.

That doesnt make sence. Are you going on about me saying that its a fact again?

People using evolution as an example today mix it up with adaptation. There are certain species of Frog in Africa where if there are not enough females, a male or a few will spontaneously change gender. Same goes in the ocean with enenemy I think. It is adaptation to ones enviroment, no significant evolutionary process is involved. With the dog thing, it is just genetics, same with humans.

As for God knowing all, the problem is people don't look at it as "If I were God what would I really do?" If he saves everyone then there would be no point in having earth and heaven. If he forces us all to believe in him then again no point in Earth and Heaven. If God truly exists then maybe the answer to all the problems is quite simple and he knows it, but on Earth we should not.

Although my mom says the meaning of life is too worship God, I think that is extremist Christianity mis-interpreting the bible. If man is so flawed according to the bible then we cannot certainly say we've interpreted it right. Thus God does not intend for us to know the answers. At least here on Earth, and thats why we should play video games to pass the time until we die : )

Whoa its me!

Well, as there arent any pictures of cavemen, thats a very shady spot with no evidence either way.

Its a different type of fish though, the fish dosent get better with each breed. Humans dont get better with each breed. In evolution fish evolve into birds, so why dont we have any half fish half bird species? You cant tell me that the slightly better/faster fish are the missing link between the bird and the fish.

Fish didnt directly go to birds. Fish went to amphibians, amphibians went to reptiles who went to some birds like peridactiles and also went to mammels.

No it doesnt. You obviously have common features with your parents. Same with animals.
Yeah its called genetics, it isnt evolution.

Theorys go together. Without some theories, others wouldnt exist.

And one more thing: If your saying evolution doesnt exist, then are you saying that all species have been around for ever? Because, if so, why arent there any fossils of humans that are older than a couple of million years old?

Your as bad as a person in my science class who says that natural selection is wrong because it says that some species are 'superior to others' (his words, not mine), and this in turn supported nazism.

..::evolution::..

My understanding of current evolutionary theory is more along the lines of random mutation as opposed to a gradual adaptation. Random mutation could save a species from being wiped out through a widespread disease, like how bacteria are growing to be immune to antibacterial sanitizers. If an antibacterial spray wipes out 99% of bacteria that one percent that survives is immune due to a genetic mutation. Those bacteria will continue to spawn and their descendants will be more likely to have the gene that makes them immune to the sanitizers.

If an animal has a genetic mutation that helps them to survive they and their offspring will be superior to the rest of that species, they will breed more and and survive longer.

Now they wont be big changes, just small mutations, but over a long time of gradual genetic mutations will evolve into another species those that don't will eventually die out because their competition is superior. The Neanderthals all died out because homo-sapiens were better adapted to the world. That was a two pronged evolutionary path as we had a common ancestor to the Neanderthals, and did not evolve from them.

Evolution and adaption are the same thing, adaption is just a bit watered down.

And just to clear up - the 'humans came from monkeys' is wrong. Its like saying 'You desended from your cousins'. The arguement is that humans and monkeys/apes came from one species that split into both of them.

Some day, I'm gunna stop argueing...

New topic

So I was thinking of something while I was at work, I guess it comes sort of from this xfiles show i saw the beginning of but then i was also thinking of that flash movie that guy made before he shot some people at his school. I was thinking I'd like to catch a child abductor in the act, like I'm just chilling at a park or something and I notice a shady guy and then he takes a kid, because I would chase after him and pound his face in. It's like, me catching a guy doing something that terrible, and then pounding his face in would let me get out some anger and sort of fight back all the things in life that happen that are terrible that I can't stop.

interesting? maybe

Evolution VS religion
the problem with people is that they are too extreme and take a lot fo stuff literally, the bible isnt to be taken literally, Adam and Eve weren't just 2 people, they are kind of a representation, but there were many adams and many eves, anyway why can't God have created mankind through evolution? why do both theories need to be fighting between them? people are stupid, anyway

Intelligent Design, anyone. =P

People take religion too seriously. The Bible and whats in it can be interpreted a myriad of ways, I like to think of it as a collection of parables, but hardcore Evangelicals see the Bible as truth, period, and they let everyone know that. I think religion or lack thereof should be a private thing, arguing about it is pointless and stupid. I don't try to impose my beliefs on anyone else and I should expect the same respect from other people.
