Don't turn Luis's thread into a chatroom about downloading a file. He'll get grumpy.

Terrible Things to Animate
For you, what is the most difficult subject to animate? Water, fire, smoke? Do you feel like there are very basic ways to animate these sorts of things, like I know that several people relate their style to Paladin's style of explosion, or someone else's work.

Re: Terrible things to animate

I hate lip synching. It's so repetitive listening to the same audio over and over and over again, just to get only a few words done. I also don't like doing weather (ie rain, snow, etc) because no matter how muc hI try, it just looks like blue drops or white drops falling out of the sky. :[

Hard animations

High detail fbf.. that is annoying as hell.. lip syncing isn't that badm, unless there is a fast talking bit and you get messed up :(

hardest thing i've ever had to do.. fbf at 30fps.. that was fucking hard.. (Go godziila Go collab)

Bad Idea's

Earlier today i was having a fun discussion with someone here about annoying luis by posting an image of an unmade bed...

i am pretty sure that'd get me banned or something.. but it's still a fun idea...

suddenly hundreds of unmade bed pictures?

Hard Animations

For me, keeping proportions correct while having the characters spin around or having the camera spin around them are the hardest things to animate. Especially in a fight sequence with more than one character where they are jumped all over the place and not in a static 2D setting...it's hard and tedious, but looks best. Then again, what part of Flash animating isn't tedious?

Khale

Is anyone else impressed with this guys work? I'm not particular on the anime type so much, but the drawings and fluidity of the animation work so well together. Whoever is doing it definitely does have some ingeniously creative ideas.

Hardest Thing
Ive been working on some sprite animation for a game and I had to do them at 60 fps >:( That is the hardest shit ever, everything is either too fucking fast or too damn slow. Its complete shit, but looks awesome and runs great in the end. Animating at 60 fps is bullocks

why not double your keyframes so its then 30fps??

Yeah. Well that brings up another question..

FPS for games

What's the deal here? The darnell game yself and Psycosis are making, i thought it would be a good idea to animate at 48 FPS (double'd 24). But, all i did was double my usual 24FPS to last on two frames. I've noticed in game it doesnt work nicely because the character will move soother horizontally than he will physically. makes them look like they are hovering rather than each foot planting down in a position then getting up for the next move.

Why did you animate at 60 Buzzwerd? And Actionscripters, what is the best for you?

Realistic effects are always annoying, but I don't think smoke is too bad. Smoke is just like a cloud that breaks into a bunch of smaller circular or peanut shaped clouds repeatedly until none are left. Or that is how I do it.

Fire and water are a bit hard for me to conceptualize in my head.

graphcily it's sound, not sure about the msuic choice, hoep the series has more of a story as it goes along though.. but very nice animaition still :P

Double framing would kinda ruin the point of doubling it, as it would run half as fast, which is what lag already does, it'd be twice as fast.

The game is really graphics intense, and speeding up the animations helps alot with lag for some reason. It's the same thing Tom did with his Dad n Me.

that would defeat the purpose.

how?
if its running at 60fps its cause its for the actionscript to run smoother or something like that. you dont need to animate at the same fps..

Terrible Things to Animate

Mainly effects like fire and explosions and stuff. I think its going to turn out well, but it ends with looking like crap. Tutorials seem to be not to helpful because they're usually very specified types of fire and explosions.

FPS

Personally, I think the higher the smoother it will run but however you can't have it going up too high, I mean 60 would be my personal limit because when you get much higher FPS than that you can refreshing image lines so images become all pieces.

Sorta like when you video tape tv with a camera set at a different rate to the TV, setting flash to too high a number won't allow it to even off with the change rate of the computer you are using it on. This may change for LCD screens though but I am not sure.

Re: Hard Animations

I find it really hard to draw water, like in a swamp at 30 FPS. I just can't seem to get it right ._.

Change

I'm getting pretty tired of my shrine to Luis sig. I don't feel like changing back to my old sig because it's so old. The problem is I don't feel like making a new sig because I have too many other things that are more important that I should be doing, even though I'm not doing them.

Anytime I have a bunch of work to do, even if I'm not doing it, I don't feel comfortable doing anything else.

Bit of a Catch-22 eh.

Hard Animation

I find animals, women, and some elements such as water hard to animate.

Staying Motivated

I am slowly but definitively realizing my biggest problem with animation and animating.

I. Cannot. Stay. Focused.

It has gotten to the point of ridiculousness. I have always considered myself very patient, however I am beginning to think that is not so true anymore. I absolutely love everything and anything that has to do with drawings and animation, but I cannot stay focused long enough to chug out a few hours and for a couple seconds of animation on a regular basis. What is my problem, and how can I fix this?

I really am at a loss here and I don't know what to do...any body want to help a brudda out?

Re: Staying Motivated

Just make stuff that you want to make, not what other people want you to make.

I recently started a movie and it looked so cool, but I lost interest becasue of school exams. Now that they are over, I still can't be stuffed finishing it off ):

Maybe one day...

Staying Motivated

Tis why I can't finish a short animation (properly...) so I went to my role-model Will Reinhardt's site and asked him about a couple of days ago, so funny you should bring this up now, http://www.calicomonkey.com/tutorials/staying -motivated.php theres his suggestion on the topic, and he takes you to another thread from a animation forum about motivational advice.

Whoa its me!

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-04-05 22:58:06

Its funny that he mentions showing people, considering you have such a vast audience here at NG. None of that really pertains to us because we have such an experienced audience who know what it's like. The portal is a bit different, but if you share your flash here on the forum and it has a general feel of effort, you're bound to get some comments. Input isn't a problem here, I don't think that's a motivational drawback.

Hard Animation
I'd have to go with people fbf. It's so... different trying to move around arms, the head, and just the body itself. The sad thing is, every time I try it it look awful.

example

Staying Motivated

It's not really that hard when I'm working with something I like to work with. If I'm doing a collab part, I'll get to the middle and say to myself, "Why the hell am I doing this?" It's just instinct to not want to do something for somebody else.

Retarded Animal Babies 18
If anybody here's been to the portal in the past few hours, you've probably seen RAB18. Yeah, sure, it's good, but it by-passed just about everything else in the portal and got front page the moment it got through. I don't know what to think about it- whether it's being rushed or it's just that good.

I'm not saying that I'm mad at his fans, I'm just pointing out how it was rushed onto the front page and through the portal. It doesn't seem fair to everybody else.

but then again, over 200 votes

Oh well. I would only be actually mad if the animation was crap, but since it isn't I'm just a little peeved.

You know the fp isn't automated, Tom is a big fan of Dave and when he heard his new cartoon was out he personally did it. Tom can do whatever he wants.

AIM the client is not the same as AIM the network. The network owns MSN badly but the MSN client owns the AIM client badly (even though it takes a shitload of memory compared to others). Since it looks like you guys have no idea I'll probably go to Meebo. Considering I almost always have Firefox open it wouldn't take more memory than a seperate program.

On another note, should I get Flash again? I threw the 8 CD away so basically..eh. :P
I only used it to edit FLAs other people sent me to transfer to SWF to use with external compilers.
I know how to use Swfmill so I could basically edit small SWFs by hand and stuff, still requires the someone to know what he is doing to put it together.
