For a very simple tic-tac-toe AI the Minimax Algorithm (from game theory) is very easy and cheap to implement and it works on a board of any size, provided that you configure it properly. I'm guessing that it's what the "senior" used to get such an intelligent agent in 40-50 lines. If you want to get fancy about it you can prune game trees and search heuristically without affecting the result.

Plus the static Security class, which is protecting the client's Flash Player, somehow. You need to add a security exception for that website in the client in order to use it as well. So both client and server need something for them both to communicate.

No I don't think you have to do anything like that. I actually make gambling games for a living and we have to connect to back ends which generate the results and account info etc and we never have to do anything with security in terms of allowing Flash to connect to a server with HTTP

hmm, that's odd...
Oh, wait, maybe if the Flash in question is on the site itself you don't need to allow security access in the client? That would make sense.

Nah you don't need it. You can try it yourself by making an empty flash which just loads google.com. Upload it on newgrounds and it will work just fine :)

yea he did something simple. But using algorithms that already exsist is easy. I wan't to make my own from scratch and trial and error.

I used heuristic searches in mine because i read it in a technical paper for an agent that plays checkers. But i chose that particular paper because i want to revolve my AI's around the technique being used so i wanted to practice the easy stuff first.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2013-04-01 17:09:26

so i looked at the minimax algorithm.

I basically implemented that algorithm without the calculus. (the minimizing and maximizing).

Also i didn't make a tree. I didn't know what they are. I am currently learning trees in class right now.

I got really bored

questions? Comments? Suggestions?

I didn't really thoroughly test these, I just kinda threw them together because I either needed them now or thought there was a good possibility i'd need them later.

Maybe traffic to the site, maybe your prof pic scares them, maybe the time of day you post/ask. Also, most people are in the collabinator now.

It's sorta hard to understand coming from LoL. It's very challenging/rewarding, fun when your team doesn't suck, doesn't have a strict and stale meta, you snowball harder, every skill is OP...idk just try it. I have like 10 beta keys lol, so pm me your steam id if you want one.

At 4/2/13 12:22 PM, Innermike wrote: How was GDC for people who went? I'd love to hear a description from actual people I know

It was actually a really..overwhelming experience. I think I've met more people in 4 days than I have during my whole life. It was very exhausting, but I feel it was very much worth it. Once I recovered a bit, I found it be a very awesome experience.

The most surreal part was seeing all those people I've known for years as merely usernames on a screen, in real life. And to actually meet people in real life who played the flash version of Concerned Joe.

I'll be writing up a more in-depth post about GDC and the whole experience soon either on my newspost or on the concerned joe blog, or both.

None of those gamespot, IGN, kotaku or big press sites ever came down to GDC Play, which was kind of disappointing, but we did get some attention:

www.venturebeat.com/2013/03/29/two-kids-made-my-favorite-gam e-at-gdc-concerned-joe/

And these guys are making a movie about indie games, and they filmed us for a bit.

We were recording people playing Joe with a webcam, so we'll have a timelapse soon-ish as well.

Also, how in the hell is it possible that like 3 years ago I could come on here with a practically non-existant skill level and find people to work with and yet now that I can actually code fairly well finding someone on any site ever is simply impossible? I don't understand that either. Has PMing random artists not worked out for you? Or looking for threads where the artist is looking for a programmer. I don't think I've ever made a thread asking for an artist in my life, I've always worked on someone else's project until we formed a partnership.

Haha, I just got my 1000th game played. You'll play for a bit and then realize a month has passed. That was basically my last summer.

I wish I could have gone to GDC. sounds fun! I really need to finish my flash game. Im now working with C++ using SDL/OpenGL after getting bored in my C++ data structures class. I made a brick breaker game just to get into it.

On a side note did any of you every buy on of those small boxes of slim jims that contain 15 or so slim jims?? And how long do they last you? I cannot get them to last day!

Why is there no DotA 2 crew/club/thread?

Let me know what you guys think :)

Track 1
Track 2

1) The soundcloud embedded thingy is really cool.

2) What's the description of NeuroPulse or a link to it? From the music, I can image a dingy, dimly lit factory or warehouse. Probably zombies considering it's you. Lighting effects giving the game the proper ambiance.

At 4/3/13 05:29 AM, Sam wrote: Why is there no DotA 2 crew/club/thread?

You do it. I'm scared of making threads in other forums...I'm not familiar with the mods, and it'd hurt my feelings if my thread got locked for some dumb reason :'(

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2013-04-03 18:12:53

That sounds really cool. Can't wait :D

Meanwhile, my game is getting wrecked in beta testing. Aside from things that could/should be changed, it freezes sometimes, and I have no idea why. Entering and exiting a menu works fine until bam, doesn't work. Enemy attacks work fine until bam, TweenLite.delayedCall just straight up doesn't run and it crashes. I assume it's from trying to removeChild textfields that aren't there anymore, but there's no reason it should run more than once. Oh well...

But I'm REALLY glad that the music gave you those feelings :) we want a really industrial and cold/mechanical feel to the game. A minimalistic/abstract universe and stuff, because that makes us not need an artist!

Take note, @InnerMike

So it turns out in FD

trace("2:stuff");

outputs "stuff" in the warning message color ("3:" makes it the error color, I assume there's one for blue). I started having a panic attack wondering why the debugger was shouting at me for this one basic line of code. Turns out it's just a FD thing, the string itself is normal.

yeah, I found that out pretty quickly. That's how I used to separate numbers in trace logs. Now I use a dash and two spaces.

Really? I thought that only worked for FlashConnect.trace. It's great to know that it works on plain old trace as well!
