HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!

I think I figured the basics out, this was a very helpful tutorial.

I think you and archon are about the same age.
so you guys start early or something, or maybe you go straight to first grade instead of kindergarten

Animation helped some with an art portfolio (digital files are accepted as pieces of a portfolio) to help me get into the art program at my school.
You should find a couple professors to get to know you better and about what you're doing with flash development so they can write that in letters of recommendation and maybe give you some advice on how to word your application better. (To fluff it up and tell the schools how important it really can be)
At 7/15/10 11:49 AM, Archawn wrote: The counselor at my school tells us that even students like me, who have straight A's, don't get into a good college without having a bunch of these extracurricular activities.
That whole system pisses me off. People doing extracurricular activities purely for something to put on their application form just destroys the entire system. Far too many times have I heard "I'm going to do some charity work so that I can get into a better university" from my peers and "And doing so-and-so will look good on your application form" from teachers.
The whole reason for universities to look for these things if to see whether you have a well-rounded character, or that you're charitable or whatever - but they aren't getting that any more. Now those points can just as easily show that the person just knows how to play the system, and they get chosen over individuals who may be smarter and kinder.
Yes, the charities and whatnot do get things out of it, and I suppose that is an advantage - but it's a pity that the people couldn't be sincere about doing their part in society.

You'll finish sixth form at 18 like everyone else, just because your younger than everyone else doesn't mean you'll finish younger

Also, I agree with this. Thanks for the advice, guys. Maybe I'll find a few other things to do.
It's weird how Newgrounds grows on you.

BORING
Counselors have been telling students garbage like that for some time. The whole community involvement rubbish is really only important if you want to practice law through an upper crust school, and go into politics. It's antiquated. Schools like well rounded students, for sure, but most of them prefer money, or better yet, the future promise of money. Unclear on what I mean? I mean 20 years from now, after you've made your millions, and you dedicate the Archawn Institute of Advanced Computer at Programming at MIT, or Oxford, or wherever. I hate to sound so capitalist, but schools are big businesses, and cha-ching-a-ling is what's on their mind$$$$. If you've got the grades, and your essay doesn't read like a Charles Manson manifesto, you should have no problems getting in to the school of your choice, especially if your financial situation is not precarious. College applications are like employment applications. People fully expect you to lie on them. I recommend telling the truth. It's always good enough, and it's a great way to stand out from the tellers of half-truths.

ARCHON! Listen very closely to the following:
I've been using flash since i was 13, I applied for college in a program called Digital Media Technology which is like film, 3D animation, special effects and that stuff. When I went for my interview with the teachers to show them my portfolio, I included a bit of Exile 4 with it at the time and showed them what i do in my spare time. It was around that time that they pretty much said "Yeah, we'll see you in September."
Don't even worry about it, if you're going into something where Flash is even vaguely related to the course that your taking, if you show that you know it, it totally helps.

we've been waiting for your return mr.guare, preporations for a limo have been made, in the end you will ride a motor boat and head to the hollow volcano where your target resides. Take out the main reactors with c4, and escape as quickly as possible, we may need you once again.

the only reason I come to this thread is to see if people post old spice commercials

Anyone feel like doing some beta testing? It's this game, only much newer and awesomerrr (editor merged into the game, NG's save data API for level sharing, medals, and stuff). Let me know and I'll give you access to this page.
If you're cool enough that is :)
Some notes:
- Saving levels made with the editor doesn't actually work atm, but it seems to be on the API side and mike is on it (used to work, then I enabled the ads and the whole game fell apart.. :[ )
- Loading random custom levels doesn't work either, probably due to the same reason that lies behind the error above
- Nicer looking editor instructions are on the way
- Please notify me about spelling and grammatical errors in-game
- And of course about other errors/stuff that you have thoughts about
- Medal list

Can any of you guys recommend any good desktops for under £500?

I saw this one is pretty sweet, 6GB memory, 1TB HDD, win7 x86, quad core, for a little over £500, you can fully customise it can choose your own colours.

that's awesome dude. it would suck bigtime if you couldt go for that nice glossy pink.
oh yeah, and enjoy that G310. Awesome gaming on that badman
yeh as toast said lol, if you have x86 windows, you'll only get the use of 3Gb of that ram rendering the other 3Gb virtually useless.

I thought you could have x86-64, but probs not, my bad.

x86 is the standard 32bit instruction set.
x86-64 is an extension to the x86 instruction set created by AMD, often shortened to x64.

Just to make it clear though, the OS with the desktop is actually 64bit, not 32bit.

I said x86 thinking it was 64 bit, so you are right. So x86-64 is actually 32 bit native but supports 64 bit or the other way round?
x86-64 is 64bit, which being an extension of x86 instruction set; supports both 64bit and 32bit applications natively.
