HO HO HOPE you become a Newgrounds Supporter this year!
We're working hard to give you the best site possible, but we have bills to pay and community support is vital to keep things going and growing. Thank you for considering!

Wow.
The most I've ever made off of a game was string avoider, I think it was 2k + 1.2k to let yahoo games use it. This was like 5 years ago, I should have probably realized what a good business the flash game industry was and pumped out mass shitty games like glaiel (no offense though at least he's rich)

my bank accounts value is in 3 digits right now, yup, very rich

Haha, you'll have to make a "inb4 kirk goes FUCK THIS SHIT" post when we don't make it past the qualifying round. =P

Weren't you going full time indie dev? Better make some quick cash then ^^

I will make sure to have one at the ready when it happens :)
Wow, I'm glad I know how worthwhile sponsorships can be. I knew they paid well before, but not that well.
yes the:
stage.fullScreenSourceRect = new Rectangle(0,0,640,635);
Works really well (way faster than standard fullscreening), but there are some weird issue with keypresses and crap that make it kind of impractical for lots of games.

ya you can't use any keys in flash 9, in flash 10 you can use stuff like tab and shift but not alphanumeric keys.

Very unfair comment I would say, Glaiel has never come in here bragging about money and im pretty sure a lot more thought goes into his games than a lot of the other devs here, myself included.

That christmas arcade game you made could have easily gotten $2K+. Simple flash games earn way big. Ironically, a large, epic game with tons of features and cutscenes and all that jazz, may not earn much at all.

And that's what I hate. Big games can earn alot more than a simple game, but from what I know, the extra effort you need to put in isn't worth the extra money.
That is if your talking about purely money.
Big games are fun so make ;) Even though I've never finished of mine.

Yeah this is what I have quickly come to realize in the past year or so. To make money, all a Flash game really needs is some kind of unique gameplay element, some appealing design and to be delivered at a fairly high standard. Its kind of a sad fact, but sponsors really don't seem to care about deep gameplay, high levels of polish, and those extra finishing touches that take time but really make a game shine.
If you are trying to make a living out of it the key is to balance yourself - do some quick games that you know will make some easy money, and use that extra cash to allow yourself to spend longer on the big projects that YOU really want to make.
Hahah, looking at the size of the my physics engine over time increase from the last month of my dumps into newgrounds.
30th march : compiled engine is 43.3kb
05th may : compiled engine is now 70.7kb
Project Page (logo by douche *cough* jordan)
.................
In other news, i have an exam in two hours and havn't really revised it at all since doing the module 5 months ago, hmmm

Duh. You don't make money selling to people who are only visiting one web page - you're limited by the adverts you can sell that way! You ideally want games that take up thirty seconds of someone's attention before they click to navigate to a similar game on your website, allowing for more adverts to be viewed.
Any game that takes more than five minutes to play is a waste for sponsors - repeat views and unique attractions are one thing, but no sponsor is ever going to sponsor, oh, I dunno a well done 4X game for more money than a bejeweled clone just because it's a deeper game - there'd be limited appeal, limited pageviews, and it'd cannibalise the other stable of games for people that visit the site.
Fortunately, on the same token, less sponsors will sponsor recycled trash, since no one wants to visit a site with a billion copies of tic-tac-toe. Sponsors also know there's a chance that the game's going to be featured on a big name blog site like Kotaku or IndieGames if it's an actual diamond of a game and the artist has done the leg work of getting a gaggle of people to promote it for them, so might pay out a little extra for exclusivity.
In practice for every other game however, returns on investment really do look like a bell curve of time against cash.
...

Big games are like big movies to me...takes FOREVER to finish, but i expect the finished result to be way more satisfying...THOUGH i've never finished a big game so I don't entirely know...
Started the animatic for Exile5 yesterday...2 hours later i wanted to blow my brains out :P

What module, further maths i'm guessing?
That physics engine seems good, i noticed a few glitches but, for so many rigid bodies, it's expected. It's also way too fun to take 1 block out of the bottom and watch the tower slowly creak and fall.

I'm uni mate :P I had logic and reasoning about programs today, i have my 4 maths module exams starting monday, analysis, geometry, linear algebra and mathematical methods
the physics engine is actually pretty amazing, may i see your source code or a good tutorial?

There was some identity thefts going on, so I was planning to add a simple system for banning the ones responsible. Thinking about perhaps just putting that damn redesign together already instead of wasting time on that old code that's frankly really ugly and hard to maintain, in that case it the site might be down for a couple of weeks though.. at best.. I'm really swamped atm :(

I've seen people make $10,000 out of a game made in two weeks.
Anything's possible.

I have this grande idea of a network of sites, with a bigger central site on the knugen.com domain, and "global" accounts that can be linked to NG accounts (since I make much NG related stuff) and verify them very much the way you're proposing.
I have this cycle though: Work on web stuff for a while, work on games stuff for a while. This is not intentional, as I work on whatever I have the inspiration to work on for the moment, and the web part of the cycle is often not as long as the games one. So finishing larger web projects is not an easy task :(
Oh well, I know NG medals is appreciated so I'm going to do what I can to make the redesign happen asap. Perhaps I can build up a quick and manageable framework for this whole "network of sites" with Drupal or something. Don't really have the web programming skills yet to make this from scratch.

I'm missing out on a lot. I'm going for sponsorships from now on. Thanks for opening my eyes.

I'll take a stab at it myself first I think, might be interested later on though so thanks ^^
Early last year I contacted liljim proposing that they setup a Twitter esque account system (link to other accounts) but I never got a reply, I guess it's not a priority but it would be awesome to have; make all these "fan" sites great.
Yeah I think he pretty much ignores requests over PM's. They probably want all suggestions in that thread which I don't really remember what it's called.
Good luck with it! I liked ng-medals :-D
Thanks man :)
