Wow zrb I already saw a pretty neat screenshot from your game, but this is just beautiful. Usually all I see from you is just character drawings without background or effects, or backgrounds without characters. But all this combined looks fantastic. I really like where you're going with this.

That's pretty sexy.

Wish I'd have the ability to commit to a project long enough to warrant earning myself one of those.

I like how the only hot colours used are on [what I assume to be] the player character. It looks cool. The harsh gradient on that one middle mushroom is somewhat distracting, though.

They both look impressive. Good job, kids. I've always found any project that's too large for me to hold in my hands becomes to overwhelming for me to get to grips with.

Also, hi guys. Long time out of the flash forum.

I wonder if you've noticed that by now your art has become better than programming. That is, you'd be eligible to partner up with someone like LeechmasterB, who is working on the programming of a polished platformer.

Have you done any animation yet?

Yeah everything so far is in ultra-beta mode, nothing you see there is finished :P

Also i agree with whoever said you should put floaty particles in the light beams in your game, that would make it soo cool! (without it lagging that is)

Wow all these talented home renovators on here. I'm envious.

Music and painting is what I do when I get a free moment, which doesn't happen as often as it should.

I just got two of those in the mail, one from July and August (it came BoMToons!). I was worried that my neighbor magically got them and never worried about putting it in my mailbox, good to hear other people received them.

Woo! I got mine too. I think I'm going to dedicate a wall of my office to them.

I've written a little post-mortem on my last game. It turned out a bit longer than I had planned and I haven't really proofread it yet, but if you feel bored or anything give it a read.

Anyone who was paying attention to the "What kind of collabs do you like" thread, where I told windowskiller to come up with something original and proposed the idea of a Monster Massacre collab,...

Yeah, gonna start that collab myself. I have a song picked out and 30 seconds storyboarded and working out the collab details. Stay tuned.

If there's gonna be really, really small parts, like 10 seconds tops or so, I might be interested. I have a bad reputation when it comes to collabs but I think I can manage something small :)

Tablets

I have just stolen 650 dollars from my monetary fund (that's how I call my savings), which is pretty much all I have except for a hundred bucks I got from my grandparents and I've decided I want to invest it on a tablet, so, what do you guys recommend?

I'm thinking Intuos4 8.8x5.5, but I really don't feel like spending everything I've got (checking on the internet 650 is the cheapest I could find here in Argentina) on a tablet. Bamboo Fun seems like a good option too, any ideas?

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2009-12-29 20:37:10

My opinion...if you have never operated a tablet before I would start small to see if you are ready to blow money on a more expensive model. Might be more expensive in the long run if you end up liking your first tablet but it's really insurance for if you completely hate using a tablet... $300+ on a tablet is money!

I would start with a Bamboo in that case. The smallest one is pretty small, you might want to go size up and see if you can get in the swing of using it. I started with a Graphire 4x5 and decided I was ready to move up after using it a few years. The Graphire only cost me $90 whereas the model I upgraded to was a 6x8 Intuos 3 at $230, but I feel a lot better starting with the smaller tablet.

So I recommend going with a Bamboo and if you want a bigger one, move on later.

Seconded!

tablets have their purposes, but honestly...I rarely use the one I have. I am a picky bitch, and picky bitches use the mouse. I swear, the only time I use the tablet is for stuff that requires pressure sensitivity, or stuff that needs to look like it was drawn in a hurry. Don't get me wrong...I would love a Cintiq...but someone else needs to foot the bill for it. :)

I have been using a crappy tablet for a year or so, and I have finally surrendered, as I can't work anymore, I can't stand it now, it's too small, besides from barely functional.

I've had my graphire for like six years now and it's still pumpin'! Bigger tablets are of course better, but I'm okay with using my 4x5.

I tried to use my friend's Genius tablet, and apparently you can't change it from pen to mouse mode :/ I'll have to use Wacom forever.

i dunno.. i started with intuos3, and after trying a bamboo i don't think i ever wanna try a bamboo again :P No offense though, just the texture on the bamboo tablet really bothers me! its all ridged and stuff, and wears off after time from what i've seen with everyone elses bamboo's in my class at college..

*don't hate me*

i had a bamboo (which is like half a foot by half a foot, probly less), and it was pretty good, but i asked for a larger tablet on a whim for my birthday, and since it was my sixteenth and my sis got something big for her sixteenth, i was able to get the intuos 4 large.

now i can barely work on anything smaller, as its too sensitive. plus the feel of the intuos 4 is much nicer than the other ones. the intuos 4 large is a foot by a foot and a half btw.

go big or go home.

Is this about drawing tablets?
I've recently bought my first tablet, it's not a wacom.. It's a Trust Slimline Widescreen. It works very well for me. And it's very cheap too :), only like $80. It's got a very big active area, that's the main reason I bought it.

Look at it here

Don't take me wrong, I love my 4x5 Graphire, but it's been dying lately, and seriously, I don't think it has more than a month, every time it works worse. I never was a good tablet, I got it (used) with 30 american dollars, so it's been malfunctioning since the very first time I've used it, and I work extremely slowly with it. For example, when I was at a friend house a couple of days ago (it's summer vacation, I don't know which day it's today, besides, I just woke up), and had access to a Cintiq 12ux, I could finish, in one day, what would've take me three to finish on my tablet or a mouse, as I have to Ctrl+Z at least 4 times to get a line done. Everyone uses Ctrl+Z, but with my little tablet, it's excessive, the lines are all extremely squiggly, and I can't even make a line across the screen, as Graphires (or maybe it's just mine) work like a mouse, unlike most Graphic Tablets.

If you have the driver software for your Graphire, you can set it to pen mode. You can probably find the software online, in fact.

Power of Three

So, the Po3 event came and went. How many games came out of it anyway? There was that Armed Prophet, Cave of Wonders, and I heard Toss the Turtle started as a Po3 project. Perhaps some smaller teams finished a couple of stuff. But remember how many teams there were? Have any of you been working on the Po3 but stopped? Why?

I think the reason it didn't go over very well, was due to the lack of communication between the teams. Once it was announced, everyone started working in silence and we never heard anything after. Perhaps if they would have been discussing their progress, thing would have gone differently.

Anywho, I'm actually still working on my game actually. Trying to perfect it. Even if it means finishing a few small projects before completing it.

Pretty old pic, but that's all I have at the moment. (The pillars and the background have been re-done)
