MochiAds / Dictionary.com's Word Game Contest
The coder who stayed at my house while his was being rebuilt has entered the current Mochi Games contest, which is themed around Wordplay. All the entries are here, and it'd be nice if you all could look at Deword.

So bitches, my computer just auto-updated and continually gives error messages. I'm in need of a new computer and was going to get one soon enough, so it's not worth the trouble of going through Dell to figure out what the fuck is wrong and reformat it just so I can use the crap for another week or two. So here's my dilemma of what computer to get:

I want a Mac laptop so I can develop iPhone apps on the SDK, and I can't use my home desktop G5 because it has to be Intel-based. On the other hand, I want to get a Dell because I like some of the programs it uses that Macs can't, like FlashDevelop. I also feel like although they might not look as sleek, they cost significantly less than Macs with the same capabilities. So could someone recommend a solution to this problem? I love Macs, but everyone who switches just says, "FUCK!"

Hurray being a psychonaut and experimenting with intense mind stimulation.
I'm going skydiving today. Extreme sports has been on my list of things to do for a bit now. This is goin' to be fun. What does one think about falling thousands of miles down to their earthly home?

I know ya can get a DVD video of your dive but, I got no clue how to put the DVD on youtube or anyone to show. I go my buddy Darryls skydiving video to play around with. Also that reminds me.... Darryl's goin' on his second jump today.

He convinced me yesterday to jump today. :3

I did a skydive once in New-Zealand, right above two glaciers. It was absolutely amazing. Although I must say that with bungeejumping you actually feel like you're falling towards your death, it's way more intense. When your skydiving it just feels like your floating (apart from the rushing wind) because you're so far from the ground (even when the parachute opens) you don't see the ground rushing towards you.

I havent done it in awhile, if it werent so expensive id do it like once a month or something. Its quite an experience.

I must admit I don't have a lot of experience with Bootcamp and the like. But I'm pretty sure there are regs here that do. From what I gather Bootcamp is pretty stable, I remember when it first came out a Mac with Bootcamp was actually the fastest set-up for Vista, compared to machines with similar specs.

Anyway, If you want to buy a Mac laptop there's not a whole lot of choice. Macbook Pro's are the only ones they're selling nowadays. You might want to do a bit of research first though on price levels, specifications, compare various manufacturers et cetera. I personally don't think I'm ever switching back to Windows, but Macs aren't for everybody.

AsusRiot: I would, but I don't think that enough people support it tech-wise that I would be willing to. It still is the same issue though...

Xeptic: Yeah, when I said which, I kind of meant the technicalities, not necessarily the machine, but I'll just look into it. I like how Macs run and all, I'm just afraid of 'teh switch' :p. I use a Mac desktop though, so it shouldn't be much of one.

So who does have experience with BootCamp here?

If you want a normal OS to play games and do what normal people do, get Windows. If you want a decent OS, get linux. If you want to have a decent OS, AND play games, get windows and boot linux from inside windows. But please, you should know better than getting a mac.

Skydiving

I want to go sometime but i can't find anyone else who wants to :P. I've never had a problem getting over the natural "oh shit dont this its gonna hurt" situations, aslong as i am logically safe then i will bungee jump or skydive or whatever it is.

Medium Hadron Collider

On a less exciting, but still very interesting note, i'm having a tour around the Particle Collider in Oxford and getting to the VIP areas with someone who works there. It's nowhere near as big as the LHC, but it's still a rare opportunity and i've got a bunch of physics questions to ask.

Anyone got anything they are interested in that they want me to ask a proffesional?

What is the likely hood, and speedbumps of harnessing the energy created from the collision of particles as a power source one day?

Aside from them probably taking more energy to blast together than they create.

Hmm excuse my ignorance, but isn't that heat? The hotter something is, the more the particles bounce around, essentially giving power? And when the object is cold, particles are at a standstill and no longer have enough energy?

You people are bringing back all sorts of awesome memories, I want to go sky-diving again! Maybe during my trip in the US this summer, I'll have to look into that... Also, pic of the skydive location in New-Zealand, taken while dangling in the air by parachute (grammar?). New-Zealand is a stupefyingly beautiful country and you should all go there.

Anyone have any interesting summer plans?

As far as I know, gaining more energy from a collision than the energy it took to accelerate the colliding particles violates the law of energy conservation. However the hadron collider deals with quantum mechanical situations, not classical. Maybe they'll manage to blast the nuclei (protons / nucleons) and separate the bosons that form them. That would lead to very interesting consequences, and although I'm not really sure what would happen, I think it's purely for advancing our knowledge in physics, not in creating new types of energy production.

I have a question that's been eating my mind. When you shine a light on a window, part of the light will be reflected back to you, which shows a faint reflection of the inside on the glass, and part of the light continues outside through the window which is why someone standing outside the house can see what's happening inside through the windows. Now that's easily understandable if you think of light as waves, but the strangest thing is that it's made of particles (photons), and that some of them are reflected not when they reach the end of the window, but on immidiate contact with the window glass. How does each individual photon know whether to be reflected or not? And if it is reflected, how does he know to reflect on contact with the mirror as if it already knows the thickness of the window? (thicker windows means more photons are reflected)

Heat is energy.

And to Toast:

What I meant was, those particle accelerators (And the new fusion reactors) actually take more energy to fling the particles, then the energy released during the reaction.

So, will they make a collider that's more efficient that could in turn allow us to use the energy from the collision.

Not to continue busting the skydiving / collider conversation, but I was just customizing a Mac and a Dell simultaneously, and...GOD DAMN MACS COST A SHITLOAD! To upgrade from 4 to 8 GB on Ram for a Dell Studio XPS was + $500, while a mac was + $1,000. Overall it was something like $2,000 vs. $4,000. Shit-fuck-face-dick!!!

Newgrounds skydiving meet please :P

My University want 50% of any revenue made from my final year project. How fucking bullshit is that? Im paying £3000+ a year to get taught fuck all as it is, and now they want to take more of my damn money.

I can collaborate with anyone, so I wanted to do Penguinz 2, but they can suck my fucking balls if they think they are getting a penny from anything I make, especially that. It really really sucks, I just hope I can talk them into it :P

What do you guys think, am I just being greedy? I really have learnt very little on my course, and the Flash tutorials were laughable. I just wanted to blow them out the water with this one, surely its in their best interest to let me release it as long as they are getting some kind of credit?

At 7/18/09 05:00 PM, Toast wrote: I have a question that's been eating my mind.

You're treating photons as if they are conscious beings with words like 'know' =P

The size of photons and more importantly the molecular structure of glass allow for a large number of photons to pass through the gaps onto the other side. However, some do hit the glass, and so are reflected. Naturally, the thicker the glass, the more molecules each photon needs to 'dodge' in order to get to the other side, and so more will fail and be sent back.
It's all probability really.

My physics is rather sketchy, so I can't promise a right answer. But it looks good, right?

Also, that Uni sounds crappy for that, Jimp. Where do you go?

Doomsday-One, working on stuff better than preloaders. Marginally.

This might be relevant to your question (it may seem odd, but bear with it). I've been wondering what you've mentioned aswell, photons obviously can't think but there must be some deciding factor, but as you said if each is individual so how is a certain percentage always reflected. I'll ask.

Fusion technically produces more energy output than input, although thats because of the conversion of mass. Then again mass is effectively changed to energy in the collider, so the output could be bigger. But yeah, it wouldn't be practical, fusion is much more likely to happen, and that is still taking baby steps.

Check the legality of it. Tell them you want in writing why they believe they're entitled to ANY percentage of revenue.

If the game doesn't not have to be published to count as a grade, give them a version without ads and after the grading is complete, release the version with the ads.

Unless they're making you sign some sort of contract or agreement beforehand, they really have no right to profit from your intellectual material.
