Are any programmers still up for joining another Power Of 3 team?

I have an idea for a puzzle game. Kinda Ikaruga-ish and G&Wish in the movement.

It's a puzzle game kinda like Ikaruga except there's no 'neutral' bg and there's 3 colours. You can turn 3 colours - each would be killed if it touches itself but is immuneto the two others.

So as you pass from one colour bg to another, you need to turn the colour that neither are so that you don't die on the first, nor the 2nd.

The scrolling and your movement both happen simultaneously - like Game and Watches - so working out the correct path given your limited movement (relative to scrolling speed) becomes a puzzle.

There would also be colour-changing 'bombs' that can set off chain reactions and other stuff but that's the basic idea.

I'm off to buy some more grid paper so I can explain it more fully to anyone interested.

I'd be artist/level designer.

I really hate this thread. It used to be regs having discussions and sharing things theyve made or found. But lately it's about 3 people having a discussion while the other regs are trying to create meaningless topics or having gay conversations just for the "lulz" its getting almost out of hand.

I'm not trying to make enemies, or say it should be locked, just saying maybe it should have stricter rules.

No it varies. Sometimes we'll be talking about something meaningful of something new, and other times we'll be talking about nothing in particular. The idea of having strict rules is stupid, as it's the freedom that brings me here. The freedom to just talk with a bunch of great guys who aren't trying to show off or flame people.

Just wait. We'll talk about something good soon.

Aww... It's just one thread, shouldn't be too hard to steer away from it.

Topic fluctuates constantly in maturity. It's okay to let it go every once in while, it just makes our proper conversations seem better than they are.

And on that note,

Is anyone over-fascinated by these things? I was at the airport and saw ones with IPods and Nintendo DS in them and was completely distracted. They also sold DS games which was awesome, if I was on long flights and needed a new game its completely useful! Although I was only impulsive enough to buy an overpriced soda from the machine adjacent, but man, even that had a cool conveyor belt soda system. I'm sold.

Then why wouldn't you wait to post when there is a good topic. It is just embarassing and stupid to see people go all gay for eachother over the internet. I know it's a joke and you're just trying to be funny, but it's 2 pages of that and then one page of what the thread was made for.

At SEA-TAC there's a starbucks that's actually cheaper than the normal starbucks.

2 bucks for a large coffee? What is this, dunkin donuts?

Note to self. John is suspiciously distracted by shiny things. Carry a shiny doohickey to use as a distraction, and then smack over the back of the head to check if he's part magpie and/or a robot bodysnatcher.

Meh, the best one I've seen was just a regular drinks one with a kick-ass claw delivery system. It had a flap and blue light and everything! Well, it was cool at first, but waiting a full forty seconds for THE CLAW to reset every time you needed a drink delivered to you by THE CLAW was a pain.

Oh my fuck, I love dunkin donuts so much. There used to be one in Israel when I was little, it was heavenly. I love the cream they put inside them. I hate how France is such a healthy country, you can never find a big juicy burger or a creamy donut, everything has salad and tomatoes in it, the best donuts you can find are basically just round bread with chocolate on it.

Anyone had any experience with Jayisgames before?

Just speaking to LongAnimals, he was saying how they offered him a great review for Heavy Weapons if they put a logo linking to the site in the game. He refused, they still did the review but it wasnt really "great", and had quite a lot of negative points about the game.

Im not to saying it was a terrible review or the points were unjustified , just seems suspicious after offering him a great one for thier logo in his game :P

That seems like a pretty substantial abuse of their position to me :/

Jayisgames is a great site, owners are friendly and they always write great helpful reviews. They point out the flaws while still praising the main game. So much that I have the editors on board for critiquing the new version of closure when it becomes closure to the IGF deadline.

That's pretty irrelevant to what Jimp's saying. I've had reviews there, and the only bad experience I've had is my site crashing due to the traffic spike taking out my bandwidth. Even so, if it's true that they're trading good reviews for advertising then it's a serious matter. It might be worth contancting them to find out the full story.

I dont really want to stir anything up, its totally not my place and I shouldnt really have said anything. Still, just something to consider, ive only heard great things about them in the past.

Hey, nobody here's jumping to any conclusions. Hopefully things will get elucidated sooner or layer. Do you have a link to the review?

I always felt jayisgames is like the equivalent of cold hard flash, where they basically only follow around the same group of game developers. Like an elitist group that isnt really open to letting anyone else in. They will let you in after after a ton of door pounding.

That is retarded.. I really doubt people care so much about their reviews that they would or would not play a game based on the review.

Yeah probably not, but if the game had a nice shiny Jayisgames logo like they wanted, they would have probably given it higher than 3.7, they want thier logo in "top notch games".

That score seems to be decided by users through voting though?

Maybe if they paid a small amount of money for the author to stick a link saying "Read a review of this game + others at JayIsGames.com!" or something, but offering to fake a review .. is gay.

Their scores are user-voted though.

I don't know the whole details of your friends interaction though, but jay have never asked me to do stuff like that for my games, and yet they review them with a lot of praise, and not once have I had to link back to them, or even mention them in my game (i mentioned them on my blog once when they gave adventure game of the year to aether, despite submachine 5 having more votes, aether didn't plug jay in any way whatsoever). I always saw jayisgames as a very honest site. You do have to keep in mind though, that they tend to only review games they like.

Yea thats a good point. Which is disappointing in the grand scheme of things. Its one of the reasons i dont post anything on deviantart. Its like showcasing your work with the soccer moms, where you can do no wrong. no matter what you make people WILL like it. Sometimes you as a developer learn more by having some asshole come in and tear your game apart. Some time ago I got PMed a review on portal defenders from someone who wrote me like a page long review of why the game frusterated them so much and just tore me a new asshole really... I was kind of angry at first and was gonna lash back at him but i just ignored it, went for a walk.. played my game and i started to see things that I could probably envision annoying him. In the end, i didnt agree with him on everything he hated about it but i was able to see that some of his annoyances were very valid and you take that as a lesson in the next game. So like someone who probably zero'ed the fuck out of my game probably game me some of the most useful advice I've gotten and it woulda actually been awesome to have someone like that on my beta team.
