generally it is yes, the vast majority of people that leave sixth form who do further education will go straight onto university, and universities will in general, ask for A Levels, which are the courses you will do in sixth form.
Colleges generally offer a wide variety of courses, aswell as then offering A Level courses aswell for those who don't have access to a specialised sixth form college, or who's school doesn't have it's own sixth form.
