That reminds me.. I could really use some nice headphones that cancel out sound and have good quality.. anybody care for any recommendations? I don't really know where to look (or for what for that matter..)

If you want to drop 100 bucks bose in ears were excellent, one of the ears stopped working after a year with me though. I preferred them to earcanals since I could actually here people talk but still haveve decent sound cancellation. Or you could get some big ass over the ear headphones.
Those are ugly as sin headphones imo, skullcandy just isn't a company for me, I don't want to be wearing those expensive things on the snow, I think that was their original purpose.

I'm cool now... Right guys?... Guys?

Blorb 3.0

Only a mac executable is here, but I included the (crappy) source files if you feel like compiling it yourself.

You need to link it to GLUT and openGL but that's it.

Oh and please don't comment on me putting code in the .h files and it being crapily organized code, i'm still getting used to c++.

Nope, here's one for you:

Prove (not show, PROVE) that 2 to the power of a multiple of 3, is always equal to a multiple of 7 plus 1

example: 2^51 = 2251799813685248 = 321685687669321 * 7 + 1

um....

2 ^ 3n = 8^n

so proving that 8^n is a multiple of 7 plus 1 would work then..

8^n = (7+1)^n = 7^a + C*(7^b) * 1 + D*(7^c) * 1 .... + Z*(7^1)*1 + 1; (binomial expansion, i replaced crazy constants with letters but you get the point, the constants don't much matter here)

first n-1 terms are in the form C * 7^x, and since 7^x is a multiple of 7 then C * 7^x is a multiple of 7 and adding multiple of 7 together is a multiple of 7.

Then the last term is a 1

so its multiple of 7 + 1

I wonder if that would be allowed as a formal proof? I was looking for one involving modular arithmetic and induction :P

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2008-12-06 04:34:50

my proof:

(8^0 = 1) == 1 (mod 7)
(8^1 = 8) == 1 (mod 7)

assume 8*k == 1 (mod 7)
(8^(k+1) = 8^k × 8) == (1×1) == 1 (mod 7)

hence, 8^n == 1 (mod 7) for all natural n

No one ever gives me math problems, so apart from actionscript (which is technically, in some sense, math) I don't do much math. In school we have like 4 hours of math lessons per week, but it sucks donkey balls. I normally say that my classes are stupid and don't understand shit in math, except last year I admit there was someone who was actually pretty good. He was one of those people who would always get excellent grades at math tests because he probably spends a lot of time at home studying and doing the exercises from our math book, but when you ask him a question that has no relation with what we study in class, and requires some more thinking, he just can't do it. This year though, it's a complete catastrophy. I am probably in the worst class math-wise (and socially too, for example they epicly fail at humor (which I might discuss another day)) in the entire school.

Anyway, went a little off subject there. I usually do enjoy doing math to some extent, as long as there is something interesting about it, or anything else in some way related to logic. For example I enjoy trying to come up with answers for logic riddles that I find on google, and then see if my friends can do it. In math lessons I spend most of the time doing things like trying to trace cool images on my graphics calculator (my last one was a plane, i also did a tree and a building), and trying to solve exercises from my brother's math book which is 3 years above me. I was surprised at how easy those exercises were considering I'll have 3 more years until I actually need to do them, but there's a lot of them that I couldn't do due to vocabulary problems. For example, if there is an exercise that doesn't use any terms that I don't know, but requires some wise logic, I could probably do it. But a lot of times there's words like logarithm, exponential, etc. Maybe I should start wiki'ing that shit.

vocabulary is also a problem I have in this school year. I have to admit I never do any of the stuff we do in class, and I never do my math homework (a lot of people say it to boast, but I realise it is just a thing that shows your stupidity) but still I get close to the highest grades in my class. The areas that fail me into getting perfect grades are questions where you need to read the entire lesson and know all the vocabulary.

Using color pens to write math is, uh, gay.
You missed that x = +- sqrt a so the answer is incomplete. Moreover, just write 3x^2 = 10 +- sqrt 6 and skip 80% of that.

I always show up in these forums to find that people are talking about actionscript and math. I don't know actionscript and i go to school for math, i don't want to do it out of school.

Well, I SUPPOSE a sudoku on my zune is fun every so often, things that are made out to be a game i can enjoy, but i would never open a math textbook on a saturday night.

I wonder what the coders who can also draw well do when they are bored?

Do you draw math problems and put little faces and arms and legs on the numbers and square root signs?

BBS Awards

So it's that time of year again, the BBS Awards (discussion thread) are back. These awards always seem to remind me that the BBS is actually more than just some internet message board, this a real community we're part of here.

Flash BBS Awards, coming soon ...?

Speaking of which, I was just going through some of my old shit. Whats your favorite piece that you've done? And why do you like it. Plug that shit in your post so we can lookie-look.

I think my favorite piece would be:

I just watched it again just now thanks to tom's fp post. The synching of all the parts is so perfect, it was like the perfect storm, where all the perfect ingredients (artists) for the project came together and made that work. Its like this huge collaboration that takes you in all sorts of directions and then at the end manages to wrap a bow and bring it all back together.

Old Stuff

"Wow, a 3.2!" said a strapping young jmtb04. "That's a GREEN submission!" At this time I didn't know much about coding so I coded most of the game on buttons. Who would have known about Key.isDown!?

Awards Thread
I'm passing the baton. I stole it from Anchor Blues last year so I think it's worthy of someone (like Kirk) who's been here a while (like Kirk) and who has enough time and responsibility (like Kirk) to steal it from me. I've done it two years in a row.

Old games

My highest scoring submissiong, ironically, was something I did in 30mins and submitted on my alt account

My favorite is birdballz. I'm happy with it because it's fairly bug-free and smooth considering i was 13 or something when I made it. It's the one with the worst score but I love the idea of bird with huge testicles.
