I have to agree with that completly. Although that's not why I refuse to take pills, it still bothers me how every time someone has a simple headache, or something that will go away in 10 minutes, they have to take a pill. I mean, do they seriously need a pill for that? It's not like they have some kind of chronic migraine disorder or something (if even such a thing exists)..

Although personally I don't take pills because I just hate to swallow them.. and I know that whatever is bothering me will go away eventually (I'm also rarely sick ;)

You should have no problem taking an advil for a headache, no side effects pain relief, doesn't hurt the planet and costs little. I don't see a counter argument, anywhere.

If we're gonna talk about anti-biotics and their overuse thats a whole different story, but it involves cows and over medication more than people. I don't believe all people should be medicated out of their minds for a mental disorder that they may or may not have, but saying you shouldn't pop an advil or tylenol for a headache is quite frankly, idiotic.

I don't pop pills for a headache, popping too many makes you grow too dependent on them, and my experience shows that a good nights sleep cures a headache much more reliably than a magic pill. I always feel a lot better the next morning after resting off a headache.

Well I'm not saying that.. I mean I guess it's fine but personally I just don't like doing it. Mostly because I hate swallowing pills :p

Yea I agree with this. I was trying to think of a good way of saying what I wanted to say before I posted about this drug thing. I think lumping headache medicine, antibiotics, and drugs that treat mental disorders into one evil category of being unnatural is pretty silly. I also don't know of anyone "dependent" on advil or tylenol, it's not like it's crack... unless you're meaning dependency as in, I have a headache, let me grab some advil to get rid of it, in which case I don't see a problem with it. I don't think lying down and waiting for a headache to subside instead of taking a pill is any better...

As far as psychological drugs, I think those are normally used in conjuncture with therapy, not as a substitute.

And antibiotics... aren't bad... I don't know much about it to be honest, last time I had a serious throat infection the first time I went to the doctors, they didn't give me antibiotics because apparently next time they wouldn't work as well or something, but I couldn't eat or sleep more than 2 hours, so I went back the next day and got them.

It seems like you're lumping all medicine into a popping pills category and demonizing it completely as unnatural and somehow unhealthy... which as a bottom line I think is very silly.

Also when I've said you or you're in this post I'm referring to glaiel and wurmy I think.

I don't know about you but 98% of my headaches are in the morning.. as in I wake up with them =/ Can't sleep that shit off, gotta stay in bed til it resides a bit or take a tablet.

I never got what's supposed to be so great about being 'natural' anyway. Surviving any kind of illness or injury due to medicine goes pretty much against the natural order of things, as does living past the age of thirty and having a stable roof above your head. Come to that - why are you even using a computer?

Headaches

Asprin always does the job for me. I agree with the other guys, medicine is a way to beat the natural ways of old, it's also natural to get diseases and get hurt, but we have no problem using those. If there is a problem that can be solved, i see no reason to reject that solution.

I prefer using pressure points. Just do what the tutorial says, and then take a 5-minute nap. It works wonders, trust me.

Regarding fighting disease with pills, I think that there's more healthier ways to go about it. Stuff like herbal remedies usually don't taste good (blech :X), but I find that they work better than taking a capsule, and there's a lot less potential side-effects (ie. Aspirin may cause gastrointestinal bleeding and occasionally tinnitus -- thanks Wikipedia).

But, heck, you take whatever you want to take, as long as you find it works. :)

It can only cause intestinal bleeding if you take a lot of it or it doesn't dissolve because you have no stomach acid/weak acid and your enzymes are dissolving it in your intestines, and if you have either of those, you've got bigger problems than a headache :P.

Anyway, how are herbal remedies any different than medicine? If they are working, then they are changing your body just as much as a pill. Herbs tend to treat symptoms more than the underlying condition.

Well, that's true. Quite a lot of drugs you see are actually derived from some natural thing like a plant. However, drugs are usually synthesized. I'm no doctor, but most drugs tend to have more side-effects than their natural counterparts because of the fact that they're synthesized. (Don't quote me on that.)

On the other hand, I'd advise not becoming a health nut. There's no need to spend resources to purchase something from a rare plant just because it's good for you.

What I'm trying to say here is that you're in charge of yourself, and you go about defending yourself however you want it to -- just be aware that being on the extremes of pro-pill or pro-natural isn't healthy.

That ENTIRE thing probably sounded jumbled... OH WELL

zrb's back

Herbal remedies aren't as much of a tax on your liver as asprin or antibiotics are.

Anyway what my point is is that the human body is an amazing thing. It can cure itself 95% of the time. Talking pills to cure everything that your body has no problem curing just weakens your body's ability to cure itself in the long run, so you need pills more often.

And natural v. unnatural, natural is usually healthier because it's less taxing on your liver (in general) and pills usually have some side effects.

On a lighter note does anyone know a place to get a free version of

http://www.audiosparx.com/sa/play/port_l ofi.cfm/sound_iid.2064
It's the sound of a big truck driving by with its horn and it creates that weird effect of half echo half sound fade

also out of curiosity does anyone know what the sound phenomenon is called?

Bleh, sounds a lot like bull. Also sorry for quoting you.

Anyway, everything's synthesised. Even 'natural' pills and junk generally aren't found in small lumps in little bags or jars in nature. The dividing line between 'natural' and 'unnatural' is when you've got a prejudice against something but can't think of any rational reasons to justify it.

I dreamed that the asian that owned the local "Chinese Buffet" was kidnapping people. And then the city council got sick of people have snakes for pets so they stole them and froze them and then the townspeople had me find them and thaw them out and give them back. So I did and then I was the town hero...Yayz.

BIRTHDAY

Yo, my birthday was pretty friggin' bad this year, I'll admit. The only highlight of today was really the thread, so thanks to all of you who commented. I woke up and had a drum lesson. Right after I found out that it's a definite fact that I'm semi-allergic to chicken. I had an English lesson type thing where I went over an essay and realized my school's English teacher is pretty stupid in the way she grades and corrects, and I'm pretty fucked probably on the essay we just handed in because of it. I think spent the rest of the day working on a lab and reading a crappy manual that's necessary to read before you get your permit. It's 100 PAGES! I could only eat a little bit of cake because I'm on the edge of my weight for wrestling which just started. Couldn't see any of my friends and got no presents. What is this world coming to?!? The only two presents I got were from my siblings. My brother is getting me a game for the 360, which he has up at college so basically he's the only one who can play it and my sister took me off limited profile on facebook as her present. Seriously, what the fuck.
</bitching>
