GO KARTING!
Today we took those japanese exchange kids off to a go kart place, needless to say, it was super fun. But its a pain in the ass to be hit with blue shells when you're at the very end of the race, but its always satisfactory when you snipe with a green shell, as wel as getting those stars. Soooo much fun ^_^
this rant was brought to you in part by grass! ITS EVERYWHERE, get used to it! ^_^

Wait what? You were go carting with sniper rifles? Sweet.

Go Carting is fucking ace, but I hate the tracks with all the coins and shit on. You gotta pay more usually too, wtfux? :(
Sup, bitches :)
Yeah go karting is really fun, but there is also the extremly annoying kind of go karting. too. one more question. carting or karting?

Karting, my bad lol.
Anyone here dual boot linux/vista? I just turned on my laptop and it automatically boots ubuntu (unless I select vista in 10 seconds :P), I was gonna see if I could open Channel 4 On Demand (a program that lets you watch any program by Channel 4.. only works on Windows) using WINE. Anyway, I tried launching my Vista drive and it said basically that the Vista drive hadn't shutdown properly last time it was launched and I should try force mounting, I tried that but "Only root can do that" (the one thing that annoys me about Ubuntu xP). So I restarted and loaded Vista, it Resumed from the last time I had turned it off (because i didn't turn it off properly I just Hibernated it).. so.. uh, if anyone knows - was that why I couldn't access my Vista drive through ubuntu? I'm not gonna ask in Programming or the PC repair club because I don't really care, I'm sure I'm right, just.. checking. Can't be bothered turning Vista off and launching ubuntu properly to check :P
Sup, bitches :)

Kinda hard for me to collab IRL, when I live in Australia. Also, NG flash forum prime time. I get on, when everyone gets off :(
But yeah, I know what you mean about potential. I always have absolutely epic game ideas in my head, make a menu, do all the storyboarding, plan it out etc, get to the coding and I either can't find any decent tutorials or can't be fucked. I got this HUGE plan in my head for this epic awesome adventure game that's like nothing on NG, but I just can't seem to get started. I keep making excuses, and putting it off.
I suck at AS.

That is EXACTLY what happens to me, all the time. 'Cept I find finishing stuff REALLY bloody hard.

My life in a nutshell.
I'm in year 11 atm, and I feel like I'm stuck in a rut.
School feels pointless, I feel like days are just getting more and more repetitive, and I'm also starting to put little or no effort into my school assignments.
I get moments when I just contemplate why I'm doing it, it all feels so useless.

Sounds like you're doing backwards to be honest. You shouldn't come up with an amazing game idea, and then learn how to script it, otherwise you'll get no where. You should read tutorials first. Read all of them, even if they wont help in a game you've planned. Then once you know how to actionscript, you will know what games you will be able to make, and so won't have the problem of coming up with an amazing idea and then find out you can't do it half way through. So basically learn actionscript, then make a game rather than trying to do it at the same time.
I hate getting an epic idea, then having no clue where to start. I literally spent months drawing out dungeons, towns, and at least 30 secrets in a Zelda flash game, and now that I've got Flash, it's like, "Okay... now, let's start.... right now... just let me think... real quick..."

Nah, that's the backwards way of doing it.
You're not going to learn how to code properly by just reading a load of random tutorials. You'll put yourself to sleep.
Get a clear idea of what you want, then scour the interweb and work out the best possible way of doing it. Dive in right at the deep end and try to make something you want to make. Chances are the finished product will look nowhere near as good as it did inside your head, but don't underestimate the value of all of that practice. You'll have learned valuable lessons that you can carry on to your next project.
Also, be prepared to rescript your first engine from scratch several times. You won't have any decent ideas for structuring it before you've actually tried to code before, so you'll probably end up having to redo it several times as you learn more and more stuff, with each iteration looking exponentially tidier and more efficient than the one before it.
fucking retarded shit school day
3 hours remaining for setInterval(toastRant(),14400000); get prepared
im going back to school in 30 mins. after i get back home i'll have enough time to rant

Surely that should be setTimeout, unless you're gonna keep on ranting every 14400000 milliseconds.. which I think you are xD. I feel for you, I went through the same thing all the way through college.. now I'm going to uni and just hoping it's completely different =)
Happy Birthday Blaze!!!! And Ng-Unit? :D Have a good birthday both of you.

One of my favourites aswell, the bad guy is just plain badass. Great acting, good story (the ending was a little iffy) but altogether a brilliant film.
Coding
I agree with paranoia, if you really want to do something, don't work around your capabilities, just learn what you want and need and make your dream a reality. Getting a book is a good idea for coders, I'd recommend "learning actionscript 3.0", it's not basic by any means, it gets right into the complex stuff after a few pages, great book.
Anyone know of any decent free or free trial virus scanners/removers. I've scanned my computer with trojan remover and its thrown up the virus thats making my computer a nightmare but as my trial has finished i cant remove it.
AVG doesn't even detect it D:

Sorry I meant 86400000 (24 hours), cba'd opening up flash or a calculator. you must've missed a lot of posts on the reg lounge if you didn't notice i basically rant about something every day lol. i was gonna rant about my retarded physics teacher but then i had a good time for the rest of the day so im not gonna rant as much. I just got a 2 out of 20 in physics which is basically the worst grade you could get, all because she said my writing is incomprehensible and I didn't have any presentation. For some reason in France everyone is REALLY concerned about how tidy your folders are, like sometimes you will get penalized if you don't underline stuff like titles, or if you don't leave a margin at the top of the paper to allow the teacher to write a short comment about your work. It's so crazy that it would make little baby jesus cry if he saw it. i just cant fucking stand it.
when i was 12 years old i didn't complain about it too much, but it's it's just way over the fucking limit. in a few months ill be able to get a job and a driving license, i think im old enough to handle my own fucking folders. btw, im angry about my physics grade because i basically answered everything correctly as it was a fucking easy lesson, but that stupid teacher (female) won't even answer me when i ask why i got a grade as low as if i answered everything wrong, when everything was correct but just not presented the way she wanted.
i fucking hate teachers who tell me to write my lessons more neatly, im the only fucking person who's gonna read it so what the fuck do they care about it. actually it's even worse than that, im not the only person who will read it. most of my teachers this year will take our folders 3 times per year to grade it. fucking retards. ah well, it seems like after all I did end up being in the mood to rant lol. I get told I'm being sexist when I say that I prefer male teacher for scientific subjects like maths and physics, but i still think it has some truth to it.
also, about the epic flash game development subject - i don't really need to read tutorials, im pretty much able to code epic games but it just takes too much energy. i pretty much didn't read a single flash tutorial for 2 years or more, maybe i should get back to it. there's still some areas like OOP, pseudo 3D, and other more complicated physics related actionscripting that im not very good at. apart from that, ive got all the tools to make an awesome game

I've seen it and own it! The first time I watched it, I didn't really like the main character getting killed so suddenly, but then the next time I watched it I liked it a lot more. The dialog is really good, the characters are believable, the plot is believable. I like it because it's different from the same old hollywood formula for a movie.
The movie burn after reading, made by the same people, I did not like so much though.

I have seen a few of your rants, lol. I've heard of teachers failing people over presentation before; if that happened in my school I would have been fucked. It's stupid, takes away the actual reason you're at school: To learn! Who cares about presentation in school, jeez.

I agree, the first time I was like "WHAT THE HELL? HE WAS AWESOME HE WOULD HAVE PWNED THOSE STUPID MEXICANS". I mean, that fight (for want of a better word, it's not really a fight) between Llewelyn and Anton makes Llewelyn (what gay name >.>) looks superbad, but then he gets killed by that gang of mexicans.. it's realistic I know. The way they don't even show you what's happening, instead showing it from the cops (tommy lee jones character) perspective.. it's brilliant but first time you're thinking What the hell? Totally different to how any other film would have showed it.
Sup, bitches :)

Thats how I did it, and I was wide awake.
Get a clear idea of what you want, then scour the interweb and work out the best possible way of doing it. Dive in right at the deep end and try to make something you want to make.
I think it makes way more sense to start on the easy stuff and then work on bigger things, sticking to what you can handle, but I guess if you managed to learn just by deciding what it is you want to code, and then working out how to do it, well done to you.
My way makes more sense though. If you wanted to write a book, you wouldn't start writing it before you could spell, and then just learn how to spell the words needed for your book. You'd learn how to spell a whole variety of words, and then start writing the book.

Golly gee Cybex, I hope that is sarcasm.
Toast: I make comments about womens stupidity all the time and get called sexist. It's usually a girl so I just tell them to go hoover or something. (As you've probably guessed I have no time for their bitchyness or their compulsive neatness.)
If my teacher did that (I have unneat writing and still get over 90% every test) I would actually tell them to go shove their test somewhere. I wouldn't stand for it at any rate. Tell your head or if they don't listen change school.
(I have no patience French lessons strangely enough. Luckily enough I've dropped them.)
