Prob with Fruity Vocoder, Help! 2006-07-07 01:44:26

Okay, so I would like to figure out how to 'distort' vocals the way many professional artists do in their music. I use FL Studio 6 (I would have posted in the FL Questions section but I didn't think this post would get noticed among the hundreds that were already there) and I have watched the video tutorial on www.flstudio.com on the fruity vocoder and i understand how it works and everything but I cannot get past one step. I know that you need a modulator and a carrier, mod - left, car. - right, and so to test this out I dropped one of the sample vox from fl into the step-sequencer as the modulator along with the dnc_orionstring as the carrier. I inserted them both into the mixer and from there I am supposedly supposed to link them both somehow to a vocoder channel. So in insert 2 there is the sample vox (mod), insert 3 there is dnc_orionstring (car.) both are panned the opposite sides (speakers) correctly and in insert 4 is nothing but the fruity vocoder effect is loaded in one of the channels. I try to link the output or whatever of the mod and car. but when i click the drop-down menu (or in this case its kinda a drop-up menu) that says by defaul none...which in the tutorial when clicked shows all of the inserts or in that case FX as the inserts are titled in it but in mine when I click it it doesn't show anything but the defaul word "none". Please help...I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
