As: Main - of you havnt book marked this "LET YOUR SOUL BURN WITH 1000 EVILS"

in this topic i will explain to you the game development team concept.
its not a long topic so do read it! if you want to be apart of a game dev. team.

The Manager
This is the head person, he dosnt need to know anything abour programming, game dev., game music design.
But he does need to know what everyone is doing when and where, he needs to be able to organise everyone, make sure that everyone in the team is pulling there own weight.
They also have to come up with the funds and equipment, If you need a new program or what ever you come to this guy.

Head Programmer
The head programmer is the guy incharge of all the programmers, he reports to the manager on the progress of the programming department.
He is the guy with most/all of the answers to the questions/problems that the other programmers have.

Programmers
there can be 0 to ulimited people under this title (usuanly 2-3), they are the beef of the programming crew, they design (under the instructions of the Head Programmer) the game engines.

Artists
Well the title says it all these guys make the art.
these are the sub catagories

* Modeler(sp?) - these guys make the 3d meshes or the 2d characters
* GUIer - GUI = Graphical user interface; they make the buttons and the menu and HUD
* SFXer - they make the special affectes (explosions, trees and stuff like that)
* Mesher - only if making 3d models, they "Dress the characters, and Monsters".
* Landscaper(sp?) - they make the Terrain.

all the artists work together (usualy) with out a "Artist boss" because they all have to work to closly with each other. Although they do have to keep the Manager informed about there progress.

Scripter
The ideas man, these guys make the storys.
Usualy your imployer will provide you with one or a script/idea/story

Sound Technisians(sp!)
All your sound effects come to these guys.

Conductor
Makes the Background music, this is a VERY big and hard job.

and that mostly it.
This is only a steriotipical game dev team and i would also like to say before you go that most of the time you will find that 1 person in the team takes up 2 or more possitions (like a Programmer often doubles as a artist).

oh my god!! Really!! I never knew that! *yawn*

Incase you dont realize the above statment is sarcasm and it is the lowest form of wit.

That won't go in the AS thread, and if you want anyone to realise that it's a TEAM you want people to join, you might wanna mention it a few more times and emphasise it.

Response to As: Game Team 2006-01-24 05:25:53

Yeah, I meant to say that you might want to emphasise that it's NOT a TEAM. Because some of the stuff you say makes it seem like it is.

seriously this is a new level of stupid, I propose we boycott AS topics for now, as everything important has been covered and now people are just either repeating topics completely or making utterly pointless ones all as a means to get their names on the list.

Boycott you say? thats stupider than this topic.
Not everything important has been covered and alot of the topics need more (or rather "better") repeat topics. The platformer tutes for example suck-ass because the current ones are engines made to serve noobs a simple copy and paste rather than teach anything important.
AS topics just need a higher standard.

perhaps boycott was the wrong word, but people need to think twice before making an AS on fucking any old shit

this platform one is fine I'd say
http://www.newground../topic.php?id=313979

as is rystics old source

the idea of "platformer" tutorials isn't a good one in the first place, as it would just leads to idiots skipping all the basics and going straight for the "cool" stuff, getting annoyed when they dont understand it and just copy pasting.

AS topics just need a higher standard.

Indeed, you'll notice however most of the more experianced ASers have stopped doing them, but seriously, there is a limit to the amount of stuff we can cover, and we are nearing it.
