I noticed i am earning position slower day after day so that makes me think it would be VERY difficult being #1 and i'm going to stop whenever i can (my first real goal was top #1000).

Your deposit rate of gaining all available experience is around 89%, while mine is 99%, so I've missed a small handful of deposits. Granted, this means that you're probably a few hundred points down overall, but you can't get those points back. Every morning, I get the points, in case of site crashes, as there is never a better time to deposit than the present.

Yep, that's what we all do. It'll get me up there eventually. Probably this translates to the top 10 being the long term goal, but it's going to take an age to get there.

Assuming everyone deposits every day, you can move up with people, but you can't pass them. your historical deposit rate means nothing in that sense, because if you're depositing every day, and the guy ahead of you is also depositing every day, you will never pass them. Now, if you are currently depositing more frequently than the guy ahead of you, then you can pass them. But if you're both depositing at the same rate, you're pretty much stuck staring at his/her ass.

Which may be more appealing in some cases than in others.

I think it does in a statistical sense - if you've got a better deposit rate than someone, you are more likely to deposit on any given day in the future than someone.

For example, I am more likely on any given day to deposit my 10 experience points than anyone above me, as I have a higher deposit rate. All of the users above me have, for one reason or another not deposited with a higher frequency than I. As a result, eventually, I will close the gap on them, which is proven to be correct, as I am catching them... well, most of them. I think that gfoxcook was perfect in depositing last year, so he's the one exception.

When you vote on Newgrounds it says "The next voting day begins in x hours, y minutes, and z seconds."

This means if you vote very near to x hours ,y minutes and z seconds for instance x hours,y minutes and z+k (with k as little as possible) seconds you CAN earn time if the person before you vote
x hours,y minutes and z+r seconds (with r >k )

Yes, but that's a false economy. It doesn't count until you actually pass them, by them missing a deposit. You're only cheating yourself, by staying up late, or getting up ridiculously early (5am here in the UK)

It's false economy AND very impracticable because (as you pointed out) you got to get up very early.
By the way you can do the math to see when you pass your precedessor... you can calculate the average differences between your deposit and your's precedessor and predate (with some errors) the day of your surpass :P

With 6 juicy ranks gained over the last month, I think this next one could be spent marking time. I'm within a month's deposits of 5 accounts and none of which are inactive. It was a total pain at times too! You couldn't even stop depositing at a level you're happy with because he pushed all the level req's up and eventually knocked you down a level if you didn't keep depositing! Ruthless ruthless system!

When the redesign was added and we realised that Pimp wasn't in fact Level 60, it was questioned and Tom admitted that he didn't know what was going to happen and that they would cross that bridge when they came to it.

Only time will tell.

I once heard he and Shrapnel became doctors and haven't deposited since with the exception of an occasional visit. However, anything could have happened so it's best to say the real world was too demanding for them.

See above - I remember when it was three accounts above me. Now that gfox has been retired, gfoxclock will eventually retire, but I have my doubts about a timeframe for that and indeed for the master himself as well.
