As a Nintendo owner, I've never really known that much about the PSP, but this has sparked the curiousity in me.
I have a few questions:
Does the PSP function as a sort of mini-computer, that even has an internet browser?
How much memory does it hold?
Do you access things from a "desktop" sort of area, or is it some sort of menu set-up?
Can you access flash from it?
...and that's it. If I should direct this to the PSP Club, just say the word.

curiousity eh?

50/50. You'll have to use one to understand.

Standardly 32mb, but you can upgrade it, as I have.

No, there's a menu, with subcatagories.
Can you access flash from it?
If you mean open the actual program, then no. But if you mean view flash movies from it... then still no. ;)

Nice english, but nesides that, I stick to putting my cd's in Windows Media and transferring onto there. I have a 2.0 GB memmory card so I'm all good. I dont like the stuff on psp.com though.

Not really a mini-computer, but more of an all-in-one entertainment center. You have the features like music, picture viewing, and yes, you can access the net on it. The net browser isn't really on par with like an actual computer, but it does the job if you want to access forums, photo sites (yeah I know, porn), and you can now even get things like internet radio.
How much memory does it hold?
There's several options for that. For $250, you'd get the standard system with a 32MB memory stick duo. However, you can get 32 times the memory for $300 if you get the new Giga Pack out (plus you get something else extra like a stand of whatever). You could also buy even bigger memory stick duos. The biggest I've seen is 4GB (about the memory size of a DVD), but that'll run you around $400-$500. I'm still saving for a 2GB memory stick, which would be like having an iPod nano. Hopefully the price goes down, or someone figures out a way to create a compatible hard drive.

The menu looks just like this.
Can you access flash from it?
As of now, no. The OS the PSP runs on runs little if anything like a computer OS, so it would be hard to make a compatible version of Flash. I'm sure there might be a way to make a semi-workable version, but I don't see any way to include everything that makes actionscript work on a computer work on PSP (keyboard & mouse compatibility).

I assume you mean this site? Thanks for the site. Great find.

Sounds about right; people making money off of other's incomprehension. I believe Sony released their own Media Manager, but anything from Sony is going to be stiff about handling any type of "questionable media."
How do you put the wallpapers on the PSP screen?
1. Save images in /PSP/PHOTO.
2. From the menu, go to Photo.
3. Scroll down to your image.
4. View it (X button).
5. Triangle button to get options up.
6. Move through the options until you see "Set as Wallpaper."
7. X button to set it.
8. Yes to confirm overwriting any previously saved wallpaper.
Theres one thing ive been toying with ever since getting my psp to 2.00 software.
Ive been trying to get on the internet in my school. There are tons of wireless access points in my school, but every time I try to connect to the spot, it either says that I cant access it because of security reasons, or that I have been disconected from the access point.
Any way around this?
o_O

Does it say WEP when you try to connect? The only thing I could think of is do some asking around to find the code (if that's the issue).

There's another (other than there being a WPA protocol, rather than WEP) - depending on whether or not the network administrators have chosen to do so, they could be placing MAC address restrictions on which machines can connect to the network...
I need some help.
I installed 2.60 on my PSP but I think the installation file I got was screwed up.
It didnt install the web browser and I cant change the wallpaper

No prob. That's what I'm here for.
Alright, time to attempt to explain RSS Channels some more, including how to create your own.
RSS Channels (or podcasts) basically are like shortcuts for files. Usually, you're connecting to someone else's computer/server when you download an RSS feed, so therefore, you can use your own computer as an RSS feed. What you need is the following
* A Computer (dur)
* PSP (another dur)
* High-Speed connection along with router
* PSP Firmware 2.6
I found this tip from an article on psphacks.net. What you need to do is download 2 programs.
* MP3 to RSS Feeder v0.6 (English Site)
* PSPortal Media Manager v2.0 (site)
Alright, extract PSPortal first (I suggest you extract it somewhere easy to find like My Documents), then go to the extracted file and run HFS.exe (you may get a warning from your firewall if you have one, but just allow the program to run). It will start up minimized, so click the icon at the bottom right corner to open it up.
So far, your window should look like this. You need to have a couple of files on the left. To do this, go to menu (F10), and go down to Load File System... (ctrl+o). Select default.vfs. Next, goto Menu > Other Options > Edit HTML Template, click Import, select PSP.tpl, and click OK. Your window hopefully looks like so.
Now to add stuf to the files. For the music file, right click > Edit Resource, then select the file that your MP3's are in, and press OK. You can do the same for the other files. However, you need to add another file. First, create a new folder wherever on your computer, and name it RSS (this is where your RSS file will be exported), then go back into PSPortal, and go Right Click VFS Window > Add Folder, and select the RSS folder you just created, and make it a Real Folder (pink). Now your window should look like this, and now your files should be ready to share. To check if your files are up for downloading, type in the URL in the address bar (I blocked mine out because I really do not want you guys in my computer ; ) ). Or, you can just open up your internet browser, and type in http://localhost. Now, you should get the list of files you made, and they should open up to the files you selected. This is great, but for the music files, you still would have to save them onto your memory stick. The other program, MP3 to RSS Feeder will solve this problem.
Go back to the file you downloaded, extract it, then run MP3_Feeder.exe. Your window should look like this. The filename, title, and description are not really important, so just name them what you want. The other parts though are VERY important, so pay close attention. Basically, you need to match files up with the files you created back on PSPortal, like so. For the Local RSS Folder, select the folder that the RSS file will be exported to. For the HTTP MP3 Folder, select your IP address, followed by "/music" (http://ipaddress/music). Now for the Local Music File and the MP3 Folder to Feed, here's what you need to do. Make 1 file wherever on your computer, then make a file within that file. In the subfile, add all of your music (just put the MP3's right in, don't put any more files in). For Local Music File, enter in the first file, and for the MP3 Folder to Feed, select the subfile. Here's an example of files and subfiles.
Now with al that put in, press the Search MP3's And Make The RSS Feed Button. It should take a while because it's listing all of your MP3's. When it's done, open up the Web Browser on your PSP, go to "Address Entry," and put in http://whatever your IP address is (the number in the address bar on PSPortal). You should get the same menu you got when you typed in http://localhost. Just like then, you can open up any folder and view or download any file. This time, go to the RSS folder, and click the file in there. It should prompt you if you would like to add that channel, and if all goes right, it should add that channel. Now, open up the RSS channel, select the file you just saved, and hopefully, it opens up your files!
What an MP3 RSS Channel allows you to do is play your music without saving it all to your PSP (especially when you have a small memory stick). The only downside is that you need to keep your computer on to access these files. But if you'd rather listen to music on your PSP while you're working on your computer, or if you just keep your computer on all the time, this is a great way to always have your music on you at all times.
Good luck with this!
What folder can I put an MP4 in on my psp to play it?
At 1/29/06 08:15 PM, Patch_The_Rad wrote: What folder can I put an MP4 in on my psp to play it?
MP4's aren't compatible on PSP's, though you can make your MP4 files compatible.
Read through the topic's first post, it tells you how to make video files compatible for your PSP. But here's another link that tells you how to do so.
Once that's sorted save it in PSP/Video
So within the 'PSP' folder on the memory stick, create a folder called 'Video' and put the video file in there.

Actually you are wrong on several levels, i figured it out on my own.
First you make a folder on the root level next to the psp folder
name it "MP_ROOT"
then make a folder inside that called "100MNV01"
then you put your mp4's in there, but you have to name them like this "M4VXXXXX.mp4" replace the x's with numbers and the files will play perfectly in the video section.
if all the folders and files arent named correctly it wont work.
But I gots teh 1.5, how do I background here?

Haha, good ol' ECC. BTW, I know it's strange for me to ask for help in my own topic, but is there a 2.6 downgrader yet? I wanted to test out the IR universal remote.
