It is true. There was quite a bit of controversy, probably about 50 odd pages back now in this topic. There was controversy flying about all over the forums actually. I got hit in the eye by a bit of stray controversy and had to go to A+E for a check up.

I live in Belgium, and as I said, Halloween isn't really a holiday here. Sure, the stores start selling some pumpkin-shaped candles and maybe some jack-o-lanterns, but that's all, nobody goes trick-or-treating. Always been that way.
But we do have something similar here on the 31th of December, it's pretty much the same, but without the costumes. Not sure if you have that, too.

No, whatever links you have won't prevent the image from being displayed ... unless you're using an img src to get it to display an image that stored someplace else. It's typically because of the way the internet works.

There are over 100 images that comprise a single page of a portal entry. To keep you from having to download every image every single time you go to a page, the images are cached on your computer. When your computer reads the instructions for the layout of a page and is told to show image088.gif, it simply goes into the cache and pulls out the picture it has stored under that name.

If the image changes, but not the name of the image (like when you update your sig), your computer is still trying to be helpful and pulls the old image from the cache. Hit Ctrl+F5 to force it to download all the images again. This will replace anything in your cache with updated images.
