I'm probably among the top 500 VP users, so I guess this applies to me as well.
No stick fights, skateboarding or anything that has been done to death.
The movie must have a preloader, if you can't do that, I will get bored looking at a screen with the title.
I like movies with at least decent graphics and something that grabs my attention within 10 seconds. Just think about it this way, most people read the first chapter of a book to see if they like it. If they don't like the first chapter, they don't read the rest of the book. Then, keep the movie interesting and that's it.

Well, I don't have an insanely high VP, but 8's fairly high (note that even if the top 10 people in vote power all initially fived a movie, it would only take 20-30 level 9 semi-noobs to vote 0 and bring it down to 2.5) - if you want to know what I like, look in my favourites. I prefer games to movies myself, but what I look for in a good movie is primarily humour, then decent action or storylines, good graphics and sounds are of secondary importance. I'd say the best movie I've seen this year (I've not been watching too many of recent though) is Los Dias Sin Dias, although the third part of Xombie demonstrates what I like in a movie better.

I think the most important thing is originality, try to do something that hasn't been done before, or do a different take on an old theme. Nobody wants to see another stick/DBZ/Matrix thing unless it's done really, really well - stick fight movies peaked with the Xiao Xiao series and were perfected by Die In Style.

That's just my tastes though... what I like is reflected in my favourites.

I can tell you a bit about one I was actually thinking of making in flash in this forum though, the other one would take to long to type at the moment.

"It would start off as a black screen then you would see a happy sun smiling down on the ground, which becomes present, filled with floweres and green grass. Then a guy with a very big smiley face walks over and makes his way to the center of the screen. In the backgrounds the song "Oh what a Beautiful morning" (I think thats what it's called, where it sings something like "Oh What A Beautiful Morning, Oh What A Beautiful Day") he then pulls out a knife and shoves it into his crotch and cuts everything out like you would cut a core from a plum. Rather then red blood, I want black blood to flow out of him. The song is still going and he still has a smile on his face, then the camera zooms up close to his face, then the skin on his face peals all the way off, revealing a black showdowish head with small bright red pulsating eyes."

I don't know just how fucked up that one is, I have thought of much worse, sometimes ideas like that just come to me.

Indeed, indeed. Joe's been helping him out with some portal voting, and he and I were discussing what VPs Joe could help Nemesis get to with a few more rankups a couple days ago. 13.58 VP is exactly what Nemesis' own VP calculator predicted he'd hit with the rankup (and now it's set in teh VP list update I just made this morning, too)... he could break 14.00 with a couple more rankups.

Anyway, 13.58 isn't that insane when you consider the exp/b/p/VP system allows for a 16.00 VP (that I'd be quite near if I'd deposited more), but it is indeed nice. The 0.21 VP from a simple 2% rank bonus addition is the insane part. Most of us get like 0.12% or so from our 2% bonuses when we're getting those rankups.

I didn't start getting insanely high VP additions until EG General and EG Supreme Commander, and that's only because they're 7% and 5%. 2% was never THAT big of a jump for me with my lamentably low exp. But having 10,000+ exp sure helps with the base VP to build a good bonus on. #;-}>

I'm glad you hit BrigGen so soon after NemM66 hit MajGen, because for awhile there we had a big rank gap in the list, for the first time in quite some time. Well, aside from just prior to Syme hitting Major, that is. Those are the only two gaps since Recon got General and I got EGSC a couple months ago. :::nods:::

So, anyway, thanks for ranking up and filling that gap on the top 50 list at BrigGen (my favourite rank badge!).

jon pretty much nailed the process on how much influence any batch of us have. Realistically, it's rare for any of us to 5 much of anything that's under judgment. My typical votes are 0 and 2, occasionally a 3, sometimes a 4, and rarely a 1 or 5. I tend to throw higher votes at things that are "borderline" that I think should make it to try to help ensure they do. Other borderlines I'll 0 and write a long review to try to make the author have to redo it a bit to get it to fulfill the potential I see in it.

I enjoy a good game or a humorous flash, but my preference is towards an all around good movie over games. A good story line with a twist that is graphically well done (Qi, Tao of Space, Ocean of Infinity, Karma Ghost) will attract my interest more than anything else. I haven't updated my favorite lists in a while, so there's likely some new stuff (Bitey, etc) that should be there that isn't.

After the last few PoS entries, illwill has definitely lost my support. Jim Ether has been a favorite author for a while, but there's no one flash of his that stands out as a great flash, just a lot of solid "out there" ones. Heretik's work is definitely worth checking out, and runs the gamut from the serious work I prefer to just plain goofy fun. Zhu kind of goes without saying ... king of the sticks, 'nuff said.
