Level 42 in real life!

Hi,

I am trying to remember the name of an old turn based strategy game I used to play in the early 2000s. It was a battlegrounds-esque (something about the name was battlegrounds or newgrounds) style where you started with a certain number of turns that you used to recruit units for your army and they could also be used for exploiting the world map with those recruits, attacking other players or generating resources for your army. You had cash that you could generate more of and then use this cash to buy weapons for attack or defence. You could also get spys that would spy on another player to try and gain resources from them, mostly cash.

It was a rolling 7 day game which reset and at the end of the week al players were competing to have the highest networth. You could either play for free where your turns started to slowly replenish every 10 minutes or so or you could buy turns. You could get on the leaderboard for many things such as most attacks, most networth, most defences from attacks etc and at the end of the week you won cash prizes or additional turns for the next round.

I would love if someone can help me find this game so I can use a wayback machine to see what it looked like or maybe it is still going. It was a similar style game to themafiaboss.

Seems highly likely, since I voted to protect 24 UJ flashes by my count late last night (technically Clock Day morning) and... somehow, upon resuming voting midday today, my save count was up from 35891 to 35918 (+27)!

Not sure how I gained that many more than I think I was in position to help save/protect, but um....

I'll have to really be cautious once I cross over the 35980-35990 zone. I might just try to park right there at 35990 in case any other pending saves clear days or weeks later. Then check back in... maybe around Halloween or Christmas. And if I forget to? There's always next Clock Day, amirite? ;D

BTW, very belated to mention it, ofc, but I turned level 46 IRL myself at the end of June... and since I signed up on NG in 2000... that means I've had this account for HALF MY LIFE now.

I know, you youngins have already crossed that mark (well, some of you)... but to an old like me, it's impressive to finally hit!

In one way, I feel General should have been left open to have, um, general discussions with the forum community. On the other hand, I respect Tom's decision to move the focus away and save the energy on it.

I guess not as many mods needed with those two forums closed. All the less I'm needed these days after I stepped down many years back.

We still talk about total nonsense in supporters if people want the old general experience.

Sadly, the userbase is shrinking daily for supporters forum. When I clicked on a random collab thread, and saw it had 40 reactions compared to your average supporters thread having like 4? I knew that was the real reason it was closed: general was not necessary anymore; outlived it’s purpose.

Moderation is like cooking for all your roommates and they all have different palates. No matter what you do, someone is Going to be unhappy. So Tom decided to order pizza instead (closure)

Discord is the official reason why it was closed, and we can all go there to shitpost memes. But that old internet feeling of posting on a bulletin board AKA forum? It’s hard to replicate. Call me nostalgic, call me a bitter clinger, but I loved the old internet.

Wait woah hold up. General got shut down? I got preoccupied with work and irl stuff and ended up not posting for a bit since my last time on here extensively (I hate posting on my phone and my laptop hasn't been working for awhile now) but I didn't expect GENERAL to get shut down. That's where well.. general discussion crap happens. I can see politics because the amount of times I visited that I can count on 1 hand and every time it was an abomination of a forum but still sorta necessary I guess.

Unfortunately yes, it happened back in March. They had been on the chopping block for a while as far as I'm aware. I don't miss Politics in the slightest, but damn I do miss General

Sweet! Yep, things like that always happen in reverse age order, which is kinda a neat thing for variety's sake. Like, my wife and I had been together for half her life in 2020. But we've now been together for half my life in 2023 (yep, we've been together since 2000... a few months after I made my NG account).

Times indeed changed on the internet from back then. Of all the forums I was part of in the 00s, none stuck out better than here ever did for me. A lot of the internet from those times I do miss. Honestly so much better than now with the TikTok age.

True and as a matter of fact, that was my favourite form of posting when I was more active on the forums. I have here and C&C to thank for that.

Not once did I ever post in politics forum. If I had wanted to, I obviously lost my chance now. Tbh I never had an interest in posting there. Being on NG in my golden days felt like an escape from reality and it did that job just fine.

During my modding days the General forum was the primary care but I also kept check on the other forums I frequently posted in. I ensured to balance between enjoying where I was posting as normal and taking care of things when needed. It worked well for a few years until I became less active and more involved in the outside world thus stepping down in the end.

What I also wanted to say about your IRL level 46. I had this thought where I ended up having older friends around your age. One in particular was the influence of where I decided to move out from my parents and started my independent living. 6 years later, in my own bought home with a friend due to lodge in a few weeks time.

I noticed a lot of you here have just noticed General and Politics closing. This thread and forum are quite the tight knit communities. I dedicated an article on The Tank Tribune to looking back on General. Some users have ended up leaving, being TailsPrower and Seth.

The Politics forum was a good riddance, however General I can understand why it was on the chopping block. It was just becoming saturated with shitposting.

I have missed conversations with Newgrounds members, so I am hoping to become more ingratiated here with the other veterans of the site.

To be fair I have been gone for probably close to half a decade now. It would be nice to see the member's and regular's lounge brought back to life, but the forum here seems much quieter than I remember it being. I hoped this place would be more.

I mean, was it not always just shitposting? I can't fathom it being worse than when I left, always mostly good conversation. Even though it was a bit crazed at times.

Same I'm hoping to be active when I have time to spare, I'm really glad to see Gfox posting. That was really a blast from my past. Don't you worry I'll respond when I get another moment? #;-}>. Anyways Would it be a good idea to try to get some of the active veterans and look towards maybe a members lounge again ?

The responses in threads sure. Look at the recent ten to twenty threads in General before the closing though. That's pretty much what it was for the past few years.

Level 59! Also just passed 28,000 saves and am getting close to 7,000 blams. Wild. Feels crazy to finally be nearing the end of the levels, but as with B/P, now the only thing left to do is gradually climb or float around the global rankings.

It'd be really cool if there were some type of "prestige" option for leveling up, where you could start from the beginning but with a golden aura, halo, or maybe even an animated flame gif in the background or something.
