Yep. Also, it's very hard to finish the studies in only 9 semesters. I only know of one person who did it out of all the guys and girls I started studying with.
9 semesters? Yeah, that's short though still half a year longer than how long it's supposed to take right?

No, the framework tells me I should finish in 9 semesters. But most people need 12 or even more semesters. Next semester will be my 11th.

I got 3 years for my bachelor, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna take me at least 1 year longer. In my studies that's quite normal =/

I wonder who works out those frameworks anyway. Those people seem to think that a student only lives to study and learn and has more than enough money to pay any tuitions without having to work in a sidejob.

We coulnd't also play in Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. Oh, and no Denmark and Holland as well, as there are quite a number of people who at least can read german.
Oh well, if we just play in the Western borders of Switzerland and Holland, South in Belgium and North in Denmark I'm pretty sure nobody would speak German. That still leaves Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, but only three people live there anyway so that's no big loss.

But I want to play shows in my home country as well.

Neuk sounds good. We could also include "swaffelen". ^^
|= |

I bet you guys can't even pronounce it right...
Which one, neuk or swaffelen? :P
Swaffelen.

I bet you would do that 'sch' stuff, but the UK'ers will probably have most trouble with it.

There are some "sch"/"sh" sounds in the english language. If you are talking about a "sh" like in "shoe", that is.

But yeah, my knowledge of the dutch language is very limited. I only know you pronounce the 'g' a bit like we pronounce our 'ch' in words like "Bach" or "Buch".
Oh, and "ij" is pronounced a bit like our "ei". So the "Meijer" is pronounced like "Meier" in german. ^^
Yep, we do that ggggg, but even in Holland there are certain regions where people can't do that.

I always wince a bit if people here say "van Gaal" with a "g" like in "Go".

And "ei" and "ij" are the same here. I don't know why we actually have different ways of writing them =/

Because they are different languages? :P
Some languages have the character "ÿ" in their alphabet, I read it derived from "ij".

Well, it was pretty tame in 2009 compared to 2008, too. Things have definitely been on the downslide for a bit, so this year is no surprise.

Yeah, I expected this Clock Day to be much slower than last years (and last years was already slow), so I'm not too disappointed. Also, I had an appointment on Sunday (at least I got 20 bucks for it), so I missed a few hours of voting.
Towards the evening (evening in GMT+1 that is) the portal sped up a bit, but around that time I had to go to bed, which sucked...
Well, I got around 120 saves this year (NG logs says 143, but I got a 21 saves headstart from the day before). I was hoping for 200 saves and I could've reached that goal if I could've spend some more time in the portal.

Anyway, one thing's for sure: there's plenty of voters in the portal for Clock Day. Just not enough submitters.

I couldn't download the Flash Trial from adobe. It just wouldn't let me log in. >:(
So I couldn't submit my two movies.

Next year's the big 1-0, so it might have a bit of a boost, but I think we can expect the downward slide to be back by 2012, and probably never let up till CD dies. ;_;

Maybe it has something to do with the newer users don't even know what the Clock Crew is?
Anyway, I wasn't that hyped before Clock Day anyway, and I doubt it will ever be as mental as '08.

Exactly - I won't predict blistering pace for my favourites, merely that they will do standard achievements. Albert will get to 400 HR later this month, Ichiro will get to 200 hits, etc.

Well, 4-5 yesterday with 3 HRs was a good start on that track.

My second submission yesterday, in an attempt to make clockday a tiny little bit better. I got 217 saves, which is of course terrible and yesterdays clockday was pretty bad altogether if you ask me (worst clockday yet). I don't even care so much about the saves. I already accepted a low turn-out this year when I woke up and saw the portal in the morning.

I think it's mostly the general attitude a lot of people had that bothered me. I saw a lot of people in the general forum who told everyone to go vote 0 and such, up to the point where it almost became trolling. Of course there is always your occasional (what we call a) ´moralknight´ but those were always just noobs who witnessed their first clockday and went berserk over it. This year it seemed like even more experienced users wanted to ruin it, just for the sake of ruining it. I thought it were mostly the pre-08'ers who really wanted to make something out of it this year, and make it better than 2009. Most of the rest didn't care much for that or just wanted to fuck it up for everyone.

Also, I'm very disappointed in what the top 5 of yesterday looks like. The winning submissions just barely got a score over 4.00 and I got a feeling that some of those submissions would've gotten a better score if they were submitted on an ordinary day. I think those 0-voters I mentioned before just didn't look at what they were 0-voting and so they also ended up voting down the good stuff.

The absence of any admin was also something. By the time the clockday header was put up, it was already 8 PM here in Europe and not even a single "happy clockday" newspost... I get that it's Sunday and it's not really a workday for them, but just a silly little post and putting the banner up sooner would've been nice.

Those are my thoughts on clockday and what might've been wrong with it. I hope next year will turn out to be better, but I doubt it. Especially now that the newer generations haven't seen a really good clockday yet and they probably won't care so much about it anymore at some point. It looks like it'll be a party for the older users eventually.

I'll post replies later.

So what the hell happened to Clock day this year?! Possibly the worst one I've seen, although 138 saves for the day was enough to gain me the 150th spot for overall B/P. Dunno if that counts on your lists and all that but yeah.

I think the Clock crew need to pull their socks up next year for their 10th annual Clock day.

Man, what a disappointment Clock Day turned out to be. While I got 235 saves with Bahamut7 and gained two ranks as a result, I expected more. Hopefully next year will be much better than this one. The only good thing about the less amount of submissions for this Clock Day is not having to go through as many submissions.

And to think we were disappointed at the performance of Clock Day 2009.

It is a tough one. Given the importance of the occasion I'd say go, but find some way to protect and/or amuse yourself (heckling, earplugs, bringing an iPod claiming it's "just better quality", booze, vuvuzela, all of the above? :P)

My iPod died on the way there as it was a three hour ride, but I did manage to fall asleep half way through the concert just to wake up with only two songs left to go.

Yes, but what sports would Newgrounds Nation be any good at? I can't do cricket, as I'd need 10 more blokes to help and a similar situation for Fro and American Football, neither of which I'm entirely sure are Olympic disciplines.

I do remember them at least trying an Olympic football league several years ago, but I don't remember if it's still existent as I only say it once. In about a month's worth of training I would be Olympic football material though as their team was nothing more than a semi-pro team, which I've played on plenty of in my life.

Maybe you should be one of those computer science teachers so that you'll easily have an excuse to be on NG all day long.

It's an Elementary Education major so I really don't get a choice in a subject in most American schools as I'll be teaching every subject. I can also be a guidance counselor with that major, something that I would enjoy doing very much as I have a social work and psychology background as well as a philosophy background.

That also makes you the luckiest man on Earth! Congrats to you both, and may this be the start of a lifetime of happiness together. Mazeltov!

As for Clock Day, it was nothing compared to last year. This year, a little over 400 submissions, and most were crud. I pulled an all-nighter, and managed 1 blam (out of at least 80 attempts) and 260 saves. It did help me squeak past 57K total BP, though.

Last year (2009) we had over 800 Clock Day submissions, and in 2008 there were over 1,000. It looks like Clock Day is rapidly becoming a "non-event" here at Newgrounds. Bad news for stat-whores, but good news for the rest of us.

Oh, well. Time to get back to your lives, citizens. Nothing to see here...

And he went 0-for last night :P

It works!

Yeah the general mood of thing yesterday was pretty poor. I don't know what's was up with all the negativity. I guess since the staff didn't seem involved as in past Clock Days, this year's Clock Day just was pretty aimless and lacking heart.

The absence of any admin was also something. By the time the clockday header was put up, it was already 8 PM here in Europe and not even a single "happy clockday" newspost... I get that it's Sunday and it's not really a workday for them, but just a silly little post and putting the banner up sooner would've been nice.

I'm not sure if they are really busy or just apathetic to Clock Day now. The side banner have been the same for the past two years. I just think that the whole concept of flooding the portal is starting to get old for them and the community. I don't remember who said it, but somebody said what's the point when spam already gets passed regardless of Clock Day.

I hope for the best. It's going to be the tenth anniversary of Clock Day so it will be definitely better, but thereafter is another question.

Listening to:
Anvil - Speed of Sound

My third new CD. I also bought Blind Guardian - At the Edge of Time and Iron Maiden - The Final Froniter.
Both are great albums, but I have to listen more closely to them, especially to the Guardian album. The only Guardian album I instantly liked was "Somewhere far beyond", for all the other albums after that I needed some time to truly appreciate their epicness.
And the Anvil album? I instantly thought: "Wow, this is great!". One reviewer called them "the best metal band that never made it" and he was right.

I'm still very young. And yeah, money is an issue. I should start saving up soon if I intend to go somewhere next year.

I think it's best to travel while you're still young. Your body is much more resilient at that age, so you can stay at cheap youth hostels and the like and you don't have to spend as much money. XD
Seriously though, I think traveling at a young(er) age is much better.

And without a monitor, you weren't able to know if you made mistakes or not.
Usually I notice when I type a wrong letter, the only problem would be that I couldn't correct it, because I wouldn't exactly know where I typed the wrong letter.
And that's why it's amazing how you made that post without a monitor.

I was extra careful while typing, so I didn't slip up.

Well, if you didn't use any at the time. :P And besides, you told me your monitor exploded again!

It did. But I found another one in the stairwell. And this isn't a joke! I had to get some things from the attic on Friday and I used the stairs (I live on the 11th floor, the attic is on the 16th floor) and there was lying a monitor...

Yes I am right about your laziness but dammit, make some photoshops already!

I can imagine driving around dangerously, nearly crashing your car into stuff will add to the experience of watching the movie though. As a matter of fact, it's probably the best way to watch a brainless action flick.

Not to mention a major annoyance having all those F16's flying around you all day trying to sting you with missiles and other crap.
And none of us wants that. I've got to stay alive!

Well that won't be a problem. The billions of dollars of property damage you might do is a bit of a waste though.

Hmm maybe the videogame forum will be easier to convert to our ways than the general forum...
Come to think about it, VG is easier to take over. However, we can't share ALL our revolution plans over there. Still, we could do with more assistance over there.

True. I'd like to help out, but for a 'classic' gamer like me there are rarely any topics that appeal to me there.

Well that'd be nice. I'm sure it was a lot of work going through the thousands of spammy clockday submissions.
It was and wasn't. While there were many spammy submissions, they were easy icons.

Yeah but copy pasting and cropping the icons is still some trouble. Well luckily for you clockday 2010 was a fiasco, so you won't have a lot of work on that section.

Lol, so much for Tommy's bitching.
Nothing can stop him from the second upload of the review and he's got to deal with it!

I just checked this Tommy's whereabouts and I like how he is the director, writer, main actor and producer of his own shitty movie :p I'm actually starting to feel like giving it a watch someday.

Lilith can probably shapeshift just as well as dragons can.
Seriously, she's a dragon! She isn't a Lilith or anything so stop saying that! You don't realise how lonely I am.

Your loneliness is making you blind and naive.

... good point. You wouldn't want the NG Meet ruined by tons of people wanting to take pictures of a real dragon.
Well, I wouldn't mind having tons of pictures of myself but then I'll feel guilty for those who hardly got any pictures because of the attention I received.

Ah yeah the NG meet up picture pages would be flooded with Bahamut + random guy pics. Of course that wouldn't be very nice for Luis and the rest of the NGers.

Yeah the portal started looking greener later today. I didn't like how there were so many 0 bombers around though. Seriously, my second flash lost 0.70 in score as it went from passing judgment to outside of the most recent.

No, the framework tells me I should finish in 9 semesters. But most people need 12 or even more semesters. Next semester will be my 11th.

Well you're doing good then I suppose.

Heh, well in Holland the government practically gives you free cash so there isn't much need for a sidejob (that money is for paying your study, but most people just use it for other things). But they're gonna stop that soon, so yeah... soon we'll be needing sidejobs indeed. They're also gonna put up new rules stating that you have to completely finish your bachelor before you can do your master, so students here are getting fucked here pretty badly.

Too bad. The name is too awesome to be cast aside.

Swaffelen.

I bet you would do that 'sch' stuff, but the UK'ers will probably have most trouble with it.
There are some "sch"/"sh" sounds in the english language. If you are talking about a "sh" like in "shoe", that is.

Yeah, but can they do the 'swaf'? And you're not supposed to do 'sch' by the way.

Yep, we do that ggggg, but even in Holland there are certain regions where people can't do that.
I always wince a bit if people here say "van Gaal" with a "g" like in "Go".

Lol, I can imagine what it sounds like. Yeah the ggggg is hard and I believe there aren't many languages which use it.

And "ei" and "ij" are the same here. I don't know why we actually have different ways of writing them =/
Because they are different languages? :P
Some languages have the character "ÿ" in their alphabet, I read it derived from "ij".

Hmm I believe in the older dutch language they only had the 'ei' so you might be right in that it is taken from another language at some point.
