I thought spancker was leaving Newgrounds for a couple of days. I hope this isn't gonna turn into another extended vacation. Been getting alot of errors on the portal today. Anybody else?

I've had IE crash at least a dozen times today. It seems to have something to do with a flash pop-up that's supposed to load and fuxors my browser instead.

Yeah, something about flash.ocx error, or whatever it is keeps crashing IE for me.

That's exactly what's happening on this system. You don't think it has something to do with the modifications admin made to the portal do you? It only crashes on me after I've voted on 2 or 3 submissions. It doesn't seem to crash anywhere else I go.
Happens to me every once in a while when I go to the main portal page. I don't think its happened on any other page besides that. But I do know it has only happened on NG.

I think it's a pop-up ad. It's not that it's two or three submissions, it's that you've reloaded the index page X times and it's your turn for the ad. Whatever is supposed to pop-up crashes your browser and is more likely a coding error on gorillanation's part than our fault. I haven't been able to pull up a source code for the page while it was crashing so I'm not sure exactly which ad it is. Maybe I should pull up a Netscape and see if I can get the ad to come up that way ... see what's causing the problems.

The full error report is predominantly hexcode, but also lists out all the dlls that were in use at the time. Once you sed the report, Microsoft says to go yell at Macromedia ~shrug~ As near as I can figure, all the dlls in use are normally in use with IE anyway, which kicks it back as a flash issue. I'll start doing a bunch of refreshes on Netscape and see if I can cause a crash or get the pop-up.

Not nearly as long as you've been a Captain lol I only started snagging Captains so I wouldn't have to track people down after they nmade it to the Elite Guard, which led to me snagging Lieutenants so I wouldn't have to track them down ... anyway
I started tracking Captains ~6 weeks ago and expanded it down to high end Lieutenants ~4 weeks ago.
Well this fucking sucks. The new voting system, which now forces me to watch all submissions I vote on, is driving me nuts. With a dial-up connection it takes fucking forever to do anything, and when blamming and saving I miss points. I guess I'm left with no choice, I'm going to have to pretty much quit blam and saving until either the voting system is changed (extremely unlikely I know) or until I get a better internet connection. Might get a few, but I'll be slowing down dramatically.
Bah!
And now that I try to post, IE is giving me "Page cannot be displayed erros. Nothing's going right for me!
Double Bah!

Like I said in response to you in the main voting bar topic in general, I don't believe it's a pop-up ad. It might be, but the portal NEVER seems to have popups. Now, we DO get those movie ads that just kinda STICK to the portal window, within the window. I'm not sure what to call those. You know, the ones you can't get around to click on links underneath.
But my guess is something's gone wrong with the portal flash. :::shrugs:::
Either way, I hope it gets fixed soon, since liljim should be awake again pretty soon.
But if not... here's my workaround, which I sometimes use when the portal is loading slowly or is kinda fucked up in another way, it works PERFECTLY right now:
after you get the "thanks for voting screen, just go back to the movie you just voted on, not all the way back to the portal.
then go to the address bar, and change the movie's id to one higher. i.e. for 119199, I changed it to 119200... but for most movies, you'll only have to change the last digit, fortunately.
Then watch, vote, and repeat. When you get to an "Error, no movie exists" error, stop and refresh every few minutes (if you have an autorefresher, add the "error" window to it) until a movie is finally submitted for that id.
You never have to see the portal, you never crash.
Main problem: not knowing how fast things are clearing judgement that you've already voted on or how fast things are coming in ahead of the one you're voting on now.
But as long as you don't take too long to vote all the way through to the next "Error, no movie at this ID" screen message, you shouldn't miss any points this way.
Anyway, it be time for me to crack open the 15,000 blam/protect mark. 9th person to make it, and Recon will make it 10 quite soon.

that's the point i don't really have any problems witrh the new system but some submisstions don't load even if there only 200kb so i can't even vote on them =(

Sounds like another good candidate =) gorillanation makes that and the pop-ups so I figured it was them no matter what lol.
The +1 method I will use when it's pointless to try and go through the index page (like day before yesterday). I do it primarily to cut out yet another page that has to load when it's already slow enough. One guy in that thread mentioned that it only happened when he was "logged in." By that, I presume he meant that he had a profile/grounds gold window open. Highly doubtful that's relevant, but it's at least something concrete I can test. I have my profile open through the BBS window and I'm merrily refreshing to see if I still get a crash on the index browser.

Exactly the same situation here - I'll probably drop my rate from 30/day to about 10/day. I've stated why this new system sucks elsewhere in the BBS and won't repeat myself.

It's an error on the portal index page so the new system has nothing to do with it.
gfox posted a workaround here if you want to stick with IE. You can also try another browser if you have access to one. I've yet to hear of any crashes on other browsers.

The timing is "sort of" a coincidence, in that both occured yesterday. Portal crashes started ~9am edt yesterday, but the new voting system wasn't implemented until ~5pmedt.

Here's something else I'm testing that might help. Close all your windows. Open a window for the BBS. Open a new window for the portal, but don't use the BBS window to make it (Open link in new Window or whatever). On the BBS window, click the sign in link to view your profile from there. Vote as usual, but only on the Portal browser.
It shouldn't make a bit of difference which window is used to open your profile. BUT ... All my crashes have occured with the profile opened from the page I'm using to work the portal. Since I've started testing this out (profile opened from a separate window) I haven't had a crash. That may be due to luck (no conflict generated, so no crash), that liljim is doing something (no conflict available), or that I've actually located part of the problem (conflict circumvented). I highly doubt it's the latter, but it's holding up so far and you can help test it =)

If enough people voice their opinion on this would admin change it back?
Well I like the new way. I want to see movies/games get the score they deserve. Back to the original topic.
I am going to be preaty busy with real life stuff coming up so you won't be seeing me for some time.

How long does it take for admin to review a submission? I wrote a review for "martyr machine" by rob_lewis21 (and voted 5) but when I try to bring up the movie it tells me it's still under review by admin. What's taking so long?

It takes a while, some have been flagged for weeks or months. I think Wade is usually the one that takes care of that stuff, and he's already busy enough as it is with other things.

I've started sending off an e-mail every month-ish or so to stolen@newgrounds.com Mostly what I'm trying to do is clean all the crap out of my reviews, so it's just a gentle reminder asking them to take a look at them. Last time I did that it was maybe two days after the e-mail that they all got cleaned out.
There's just such a mountain of stuff for them to do that things that are important one day, get put on the back burner the next, and by the next day something else has come up that needs attentrion now. If they have the time to go through them, the nudge from an e-mail will move them up the, " huge list of shit to do."
