I thought that maybe we should only congratulate for the 10k then, but that would still promote spamming, perhaps even moreso as there's a higher target to reach, so we might as well just choose the lesser of two evils and congratulate for each 1,000.

I doubt it's going to happen again - the sliding requirements were gotten rid of for a reason.

Interesting. The thing is, you can't ignore it when someone reaches 10,000 posts - you HAVE to congratulate them. I thought that maybe we should only congratulate for the 10k then, but that would still promote spamming, perhaps even moreso as there's a higher target to reach, so we might as well just choose the lesser of two evils and congratulate for each 1,000.

Have I been missing something? Unless the lounge has been flooded with tons of announcements along the lines of "I reached X posts", why is this even an issue?

And a good reason at that. The gap between levels was getting ridiculous, and the higher you got, the worse it was. It does, however, seem to imply in the FAQ that sliding level requirements will return:

Levels 9 through 60 expand to even out the experience point differential between those levels. Because they change, their requirements and range cannot be accurately given. It's not - we're not going to stop congratulating for posting achievements. There just seems to be a slight concern that congratulating users for getting a large amount of posts sends out the message that we advocate spamming and +1 posting on the BBS, which we obviously don't.

TheRevive - 100 posts is not an achievement as it's quite easy to get and takes no time what so ever. We count major numbers, like 1000s, quarters of 10000, etc. Also duplicate numbers, 666, 2222 ect, but only 500 & 666 posts are counted as an achievement before you reach 1000 posts.

Yeah, but I figure the essence of that it's saying is the same, even if some of the specifics are wrong. Obviously I hope the sliding level requirements don't come back, but I can't help thinking that they may do. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I have noticed a lot more +1 posting in the Wi/Ht lately though. Most prominently in Rage's Abusive Reviews thread. It annoys me most when I see people +1 posting in the LUL though, largely because of the amount of effort the list makers (including myself) put into keeping this place worthwhile. It's never nice to see people pissing on your efforts.

It's certainly nice to know that you're not so much chasing the lext level as building up to it. I think that one of the best things about the new level system is that now we don't have to deal with level 9's whining about how long it takes to get to level 10 =P
