You WERE level 16 when you made that "hey, I'm level 16 post."

Exp. Points:
8,350 / 8,352

Yesterday that probably said something like 8,340 / 8,348.

Then when you deposited after midnight, you got to 8350, but NG still had the level 16 requirement as 8348. Since you were +2 of that, you got to be level 16.

But as soon as the level 30 depostered his 10 exp, it pushed the requirement up to 8352.

This is what we call "backsliding," or the "Humantarget effect." Even though now it's the Pimp effect, really.

Also, I should point out that if you sometimes dislike NG a large amount because of minor one-day level-up delays like this... then you should just stop depositing now.

Because by the time you're at level 20+, you're going to level up and then get pushed back down for 3, 4, 5, or even more days in a row.

Levels 25+ probably get pushed back for a whole week.

The only way you can NOT endure that is to make sure you deposit AFTER Pimp's deposit takes effect each day. Then you don't have to suffer through the level up/level back down effect. But that requires extra effort.

Just deposit and once you overcome the exp scaling effect, you WILL have attained the level for good. Congrats on getting to level 16, the SINGLE GREATEST NG LEVEL ICON IN ALL OF NG HISTORY, BTW. You'll be officially there later tonight!

That was nice of ya. I saw his post earlier and meant to reply to it, but I got distracted away from NG for awhile.

Everytime the Level 30 User (Pimp) deposits, he raises the bar on how many points you have to have before leveling up. This happens to a LOT of people, so don't worry, you're not alone.

However, it doesn't happen to us newbies, because our levels are set in stone.

It's only levels 10 and up that are hard to reach because of the more experienced users (I say "users" because if it wasn't Pimp, it'd just be someone else).

Most people, I'd think, know about the exp scaling by the time they're madknt's level. But I think a lot of people don't really understand the full pain of being a high level user on NG until they personally experience the backsliding effect.

Clearly this is often a shocking and painful experience when you first have it happen (or first notice it happening, at least), or first deposit BEFORE the level 30 does on such a possible day of backslidingness...

but we all have to break our cherries sooner or later, lest we never level up again. ;_;
