2 teams of 11 people (usually men) one bats, the other fields. When the fielding team bowls the ball, the batting team tries to hit it, each time they run up the strip, it's one run, you can hit it over the boundaries of the field for four runs if it bounces and six runs if it remains airborne.

once a team loses 10 wickets, their innings ends, the game is over after the stated number of overs (6 balls per over) the winner is the team with the most runs scored (usually 100-200 in a short game like I play)

Okay, the ball is thrown at the stumps (3 vertical sticks with two small sticks balanced across them) and a guy with a bat has to try and hit it. He hits it, he runs etc etc. Fielders can catch the ball, break his stumps and a few other methods to get him 'out' Do this 10 times, switch teams. Repeat.
