Secrets of the Ancients
5 - “Department of Defense”
Bahamut entered the huge building near the centre of the city as he progressed towards the man at the counter. He was one of the leading representatives of the corporation only known as Matt.
“How may I help you?” the man asked warmly. He stared at Bahamut, trying to recognize the familiar face.
“Hi, I’m Bahamut. I heard Marcus just got back. I have to speak to him about some matters that need addressing.”
“I see,” Matt glanced to his computer, inputting data with a quick turn of the head back to the man. “Sure, you’ll just have to wait ten minutes and then I’ll take you to him. There are some chairs down there if you’d like to wait.”
Matt indicated to black leather chairs facing away from the huge glass windows. Bahamut muttered a form of thanks as he proceeded towards them to sit down. The environment was normal – people moved in and out of elevators, people asking for queries at the reception. It was not their busiest day.
Bahamut stared at the line of people as he noticed Matt and another person stare at him, smiling and talking casually. The man standing turned to face Bahamut, walking towards him and sitting down next to him.
“The reception guy said you also want to see Marcus as well,” the man looked at Bahamut’s face, recognizing him immediately, “Oh, you’re Bahamut! Did you want to talk to Marcus about…the Star Syndicate?”
“Err, yes,” said Bahamut, “And you are?”
“Oh sorry,” the man blushed, “Inuyasha. Master Inuyasha.”
“Nice to meet you. So now you know why I want to see Marcus. Why do you want to see him?”
“I had heard he got back from the other side.” said Inuyasha. “One of my friends, Kiba was there as well. We go way back you see. We’re both in the Anime–“
“Right then.” Bahamut looked at Inuyasha more closely. “So you’re in the same boat with me. I want to know if Marcus knows Mazza. I also want to know what happened on the other side during the Portal crisis!”
“Oh my god! Me too!” the two laughed at each other as they agreed to go together. They began to chat as if they had known each other for years, until Matt told them to follow him (he had left the reception to stand before them).
They left the reception as they followed Matt through the secure doors (which had metal detectors), eventually making their way to the General of the Department’s office. Matt smiled as he entered the room first, quickly exiting and motioning them to go in. He vanished with haste.
The two nodded as they entered the room, taking the wooden seats and staring at the brown haired man with blue eyes. He was tall for his age (six foot) and skinny for his complexion. His face was well developed, cheek bones neither high nor low and nose average size. Marcus smiled as his straight white teeth flashed and he placed his hand out to shake both of their hands.
“Wassup?”
“Good.” both of them said. Inuyasha looked to Bahamut, nodding in approval.
“Can I ask a question?”
“Well, what did else did you want to do? Have sex? Go ahead.”
“I heard you had come back from the other side,” Bahamut said as Marcus’s eyes thinned suddenly. Ignoring the change in expression, he continued. “What happened?”
“I’m not going to say anything.”
“But–“
“Did you hear me?”
“What about Mazza? Is he alright?”
“I SAID I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!” roared Marcus. “If there’s nothing else you wish to discuss, please leave. Now!”
“Well,” said Bahamut. “There is.”
“What?”
“The Star Syndicate are up to someth–“
“Oh, you’re the guy that got involved with them!”
The doors burst open as the tension broke, the three of them staring towards the doors. To their shock, three men – Williams, aviewaskewed and a trench coated man stood at the opened doorway, staring at Marcus closely.
“Sorry to interrupt,” said aviewaskewed, “But this guy might tickle your interest.”
“Well,” said Marcus, now calm, “I’ll get some more chairs. Tell me what happened today.”
Marcus had forgotten about the fact that Bahamut and Inuyasha were still in the room. Though the two seemed more intent in staying than leaving.
