Hey all - I have an A.I. chatterbot running on AIM - I was thinking about setting it up to learn all things audio related -

If there are a few of you interested who can spend a few minutes here and there teaching it then it may evolve into something decent. It's actually quite good at cross referencing and forming relational links but it does roam off topic quite a bit - it requires a little patience. This would require a little time though, right now it knows almost nothing about music.

Anyone interested in seeing how much music related info we can feed this thing? As long as you don't feed it crap then it will get smarter the more it talks to people.

If there is an interest then I'll post the screen name to IM it and you can (try to) teach it what you know.

How would someone like humantarget52 get to level 30? It says it will take me 102 years to get to that level, yet he's been registered for like, 6 years. Is there a way to get more than 10 experience a day or something? Or maybe I'm just leaning on your level calculator a little too much.....I doesn't seem to be accurate. If you get 10 experience a day that's 3,650 experience max a year...Where did 102? Six years being registered sounds about right for 10 points a day.

It's accurate. I don't know for sure, but when the experience levels were first implemented, the required exp for each level above 9 was probably 50. Once someone first claimed the top spot (level 30), it got pushed up each time they deposited (and is still being pushed up). This means that all levels from 10 to 29 are also being pushed up, on a sliding scale. The calculator take this (the ht52 effect) into account when it tells you the exp required for levels.
I believe that if the level 30 user was static, levels 10-29 would all require the same amount of exp (around 930). Unfortunately, ht52 is VERY consistent at depositing.

True, however, I've found that the late night NG crowd is very humble as well...and, during the course of the day you will have less time for your score to drop, which tends to happen to all portal entries after they enter the portal. The late night NG crowd seems to be the more die hard veterans and those who have seen thousands of Flash's...so they know what they are basing their opinion on...if yours is good enough, you will have no problem getting through that crowd with a decent score...and possible an award. :D

well true but I don't think I could get an award because people don't like clay very much at all so I will be surpise if my score is over 2.50

I'll say this: don't get your hopes up too high. The problem with claymation is that people will compare your work to Knox (fuck knows why, since Knox is by no means the best claymator on NG). You may find that your score is a lot lower than expected as a result of this.

What size is your .fla? I'd be happy to maybe add a few 'shiny' touches before you submit it (no credit required)... first impressions REALLY COUNT on NG, and I have some experience with appealing to the NG audience. If you're up for it, and the .fla isn't massive (50+Mb), feel free to email it to me. Don't worry, I won't steal your movie.

A few AP tracks have been played on there. The majority of DJs play metal/hard rock, but there's quite a lot of variety. You really just have to catch it when it's on to find out whether you like it or not, and the different styles of DJing are completely different. Myself, I go for a lot of 60's and UK music, folk/ragtime based stuff, plus classics like the Stones, Beatles, Bowie, etc

is there any other way than winamp

because I dont have that I only have quicktime and Windows media player.....

why can't you just stream the music off the site?

Wouldn´t it be cool if some DJ who have some inside in the AP (hrrrmmm whom could do such a thing? :D ) would play lots of AP music? Get it on the ng frontpage, in some way, and really make an attempt to make way fo the ap?
Ok ng is a flash site, but now things happens in the ap, and i just hope that atleast some administrator or whatever actually sees the potential in the ap, or if they dont want that much pure music but prefer loops, then shape it so flash authors can use it better!

well the audioportal isnt that bad the way it is you jsut need to kill the zero voters and bring in more people then it would be very good.....

Biggest problem with the ap is that there arent that many ppl who actually checks it out. This can be blamed on many a numer of causes; there are too many n00b´s submitting music, so when new listeners comes around they only hear shite, and they get unattracted. The voting system does suck, or as liljim said "the listeners vote as shit" (he said it similiar to that :)
And, the navigation combined with bad voting system means it´s difficult to find the good stuff.

And due to this, not many ppl checks it out... and that´s why it don´t get improved... Evil circle of NGAP. :(

I've been a bit busy, I had a quick look. I'll be brutally frank, the way it stands at the moment, it won't get through judgement. Although the claymation is smooth and it has a funny storyline, the first major stumbling block is the credits at the start. Please don't take offence at what I'm saying, I'm not dissing your work at all. I just know the mentality of the Portal BPers (being one of them, I suppose), and I think you're going to have to add some frills if you want this to pass. If you give me the go-ahead, I'll chuck some stuff in tomorrow.

Also Denvish since I can't send you the .fla and I think if I send you a non prtected .swf it cuts the sound so the only way I see this is if you get msn so I can uplaod it to your computer unless you have a better way...

What I meant by saying;

is that the fact that when a new person comes to the ap, they first hear paragonx9´s loops. Then, most often, they hear something random, and very often not so good stuff.
I´m not talking down n00bs at all, I consider my self being on a quite low level.

Point is, that if you want to hook new "ap-customers", u gotta show them the good stuff. Exactly like you very rarley see some extremley amateurish on the flash-frontpage, unless it has a cool twist, or whatever, to it. Same thing should occur to the ap, but at the moment there just isn´t the interest to it, since many ppl don´t return that often when they hear "bad music", and we won´t get that much improvements if there is no interest in the ap. Evil circle.
Things probably will progress, but it´s gonna be a looong process... Boring.

Anyway, yeah. n00bs are as welcome in the ap as anyone else (if they´re not notoriously 0 voters. grrr.). Main part of the ap are very new to music.
