Excuse me if i go fan-boy-ish, but Mr. Kraig, you are an awesome animator yourself! and i'm also in a quandry. my parent's believe that computers and all relatied things are the medium of satan, but i want to be a flash animator. as i am only 15, and i'm in school for up to 12 hours a day, i can't get a job ergo can't aford flash. i've tried everything from making fake charitys, selling lemon aide, to trying to get a boot-leg copy off kazaa, but i can never seem to get my hands on the holiest of holy programs! what's worse is the fact that i know nothing about computers or anything because my parents think of computers as the anti-christ! (i know, that last sentence is a bit redundent, but i'm too anoyed with said parental units to care.) but on to my inquirie: do you know were i can get cheep or free flash!? i know it's pathetic of me to ask a demi god amog men such a pittiful inquiry, but if there is anything you could do to help, please do! surley the great animator of such cult clasics such as "Tinman" and "Evolution-BK" would know what to do!!! this has been a coment involving MINT!!!!!!!.... (if you want to know what this MINT stuff is about, e-mail me at pillowsofdoom@yahoo.com. and with that you could also send me any helpful, help which would be very apricated.) do you know were i can get cheep or free flash!?

First of all;
StealthBeast, your post is useful and I hope a lot more people see it so that they will keep trying and not get discouraged.

Second:
buster-kun, flattery will get you a lot of things in this world, but that is much too much! Ha ha... It did give me a bit of a laugh though. I can't really help you out with your Flash problem, other than downloading the trial and buying the student version if you like what you see. I'd really like to keep my law-breaking to a minimum these days, and would like to encourage impressionable teenagers to do the same. ;)

Write a review of it then. You are welcome to an opinion, and I like to know what people like and don't like about my movies. But put it somewhere more relevant.

It's really not the point of this thread... StealthBeast is trying to give some encouragement and advice to new talent. There is no need or point to putting possibly inflammitory, off topic posts here.

well, the thing about that, well, i like being nice to people and letting them know that thier work is apriciated. i know, i sometimes go a little over the top, but that's just me *hehe*. and mi compy has been on the fritz for the past week and haven't been able to contact everypeoples. and while i'm here, i might as well ask about what other programs i need to make a not sucky animation. so far, i have photoshop and that's it. most of it will be hand drawn and fraim by fraim so even if i get flash, don't expect my big premeir for a while. till then, toodles!

Response to Advice to the flash newbies 2005-05-10 21:25:05

I learned from practically nothing with only a little help from freeflashtutorials but even tho i know i still suck i atleast feel like i'm getting better and I try to use Legendary Frog as a role model...

Ok Stealth. try and help me. i got flash 2 days ago, (after observing the godlieness of the front page here) and tried my hand as a flash animator. it was then that i found i suck at drawing on the comp. (no money for that drawing pad thingy) and my animation skills are limited to tweening a circle across the screen. however my writing skills are fairly okay, but its impossible for me to animate in even the least sense of the word what i want to portray in my flash. the most complicated thing ive done is have a stick man jump up then fall apart as he comes back down (purely incidental, tried to tween a solid jump, something went wrong, dismemberment ensued). is it cus im young? is this one of those age acquired skills? i need help!

Dont you ever let an adult tell u ur too young to do something (with obvious exceptions, alchohol, sex, driving, sleeping pills, jumping tr8 to college w/ no highschool education ect)

on the internet there are very few "age aquired" skills.

Flash is a tedious program. its very user friendly thank god, but nevertheless its something that is so easy to learn yet impossible to master. Flash is an art. the beautiful thing about flash is its mostley done on computer. people dont know your age, they cant degrade u saying "bah ur 11" cause they dont know. But the main thing i like about flash is that unlike art, flash can apeal to the most dull-minded unsophisticated person. U can make something so symbolic and deep and at the same time u can make a blood-filled stickfight. Age is irrelevant. i started when i was mid 12, and i learned everything when i hit about 13.

U seem to have the same problem i have. You can animate, you can write. you inspired (but then again almost all newbies are), but you cant draw yourself out of a paper bag. All i can say is.... get a tablet. Not many can draw well on the computer. Even Dan Paladin needs his tablet.

This is because of a factor i cant find a definition for. Its when people will make assumptions according to the preloader or be prejudice against the flash type and automatically click 0. In reality perhaps your flash is very nice, but only the people who watched it and liked it will review. I never review a crappy animation unless i can see there was some actualy effort put forth. Howeve rnot everyone thinks like you and me. theres the stupid society. I highly suggest they can go fuck themselfs and die. its because of them I struggled to find out whats wrong w/ quite a few animations. only to realise that its not me.

So IM me sometime IM: Stealth Beest and I will look at every detail of your animation and give you a true review. I have no prejudism against any animations with the exceptions of certain clock movies, and certain sprite movies.

great thread. great idea. great everything.

Well, I also learned from myself. I did NEVER have someone to teach me, or someone to at least tell me how to start out. I didnt get discouraged though, look at me now. I just have like 6 months flashing and ive improved a LOT.

The authors That inspired me in working on flash were Legendaryfrog, SFB (You can see that in Zelda Blues, btw. sorry.) And some more... i dont remember at the moment. But now, I dont look up at another artist. All I want to do is make myself better in every possible aspect, specially in FBF. Well... i dont know what this has to do with the post but, anyway, good post and good idea.
